Roster/Rumors/Speculation/Trade Talk - 2023-24: Hotel California

So based on our trajectory, it looks like we can pick anywhere from 7-14th in the NHL Draft. So, i've looked into my crystal ball and I see that on the last game of the season we will finally score a PowerPlay goal - Alex Romanov - from the point and we will miss out drafting a Hall of Fame player.

Classic message not getting though/lost the room
Two years in a row, two different coaches. Still think its the room and the not the so much the coach even if we do decide to get a veteran coach, we HAVE to break this group up. They are old, slow, soft and unmotivated. Enough with the identity line too. Casey, Matt and Cal are useless now.

Had a crazy trade idea.

Pulock, Bailey, Wahlstrom and a 2024 2nd for 25% retained Kane + 25% retained Toews + Seth Jones

OR something along those lines. Yes, I know...Jones is not worth his contract, but he's more of a number 1 than Dobson is. Maybe not these exact players, but something like it. I think Jones can do better with a real team to play with. I feel that the Hawks org thinks they are stuck with him which is why he was never in trade talks. Maybe add Pageau or Lee in there, but I think we can do it.

Nelson/Horvat/Toews/Zeeker down the middle. Yes, we just got older, but we would be a team with the highest FO winning % for sure and I think both toews and kane can play well for the next 3-4 years and we'd sign them to 3-4 year 4 m AAV or something?

OR just sign kane in the offseason because rumor has it...he does want to play for us.

Flame away!

I honestly would love a Lee-Horvat-Barzal line. Get the big guns together and let them work their magic. Lee gives great size in front and lets Bo and Barzal handle the puck more, Horvat doesn’t need to worry about being the physical presence on the line and can be focused on scoring, and Barzal has two legit goal scorers to work with. That really should be our long term top line going forward unless we get a substantial upgrade imo.

I agree with breaking this team up and getting whatever they can as far as resources. This team peaked when they lost game 7 to Tampa. My only untouchable would be Sorokin although I would listen to offers close to the Herschel Walker trade.

New Changes at today's practice....

Anders Lee-Bo Horvat-Mathew Barzal
Zach Parise-Brock Nelson-Kyle Palmieri
Josh Bailey-Caset Cizikas-Simon Holmstrom
Matt Martin-Andy Andreoff-Hudson Fasching

Adam Pelech-Ryan Pulock
Alexander Romanov-Scott Mayfield
Sebastian Aho-Noah Dobson

Aho and Dobson Together is a Disaster waiting to happen still!!! o_O

Well it definitely wouldn't be smart, but at least its an asset. IM hoping once this team tanks this year the these idiot owners want to go in a new direction

Wow, I would be careful blaming ownership here. If anything they have been too much hands off. But "Idiots?".
Yeah, you should be thanking them everyday for everything they have done....

wait a sec.....i'm confused, didn't the Handsome One say he liked Lee with Nelson,

adding to the preponderance of my bewilderment is why in the HELL is Lane "new voice" Lambert tinkering with Top Line Bailey??
With Pageau out Lambert has to rejigger the lines for our bottom 6, so I think he wants to load up the top 2 lines.

What’s next? Bobby Knight throwing a chair at the team?
Do it. Somebody should.

I don’t think Lane ever had the room. The spark went out on this core in Tampa 2 years ago. Lou missed the signs.

Lee still has good hands to pick up the loose change in front of the net. Let him be our Tim Kerr.

Seriously!

For starters they could have left us in Brooklyn.

I have a crazy idea- how about our FIRST line is our identity line, like every other team in the NHL?

jesus christ...
Jesus got nothing to do with it. their blind faith in the direction we're going doesn't equate to being smart. im sorry though, idiot was too harsh.

fair point....but having blind faith in Lou at this point doesn't instill confidence either. If we lose our pending free agents for nothing, miss the playoffs and dont have a pick and they dont make significant changes, arena withstanding, how you feeling about their decision making?

It’s desperation time. Lane feeling the heat.
He’s a good guy but I’m not feeling like he’s the leader we need. Former players however say they love the guy and would run through a wall for him so what do I know.
i think Lane is a GREAT guy

his first wife had cancer when they met and he married her anyway. that tells me all i need to know about his character

in any relationship in any walk of life personal or professional, the components usually need to be right person, right place, right time

While I don't agree with the idiot characterization, the notion that we "should be thanking them everyday for everything they have done...." is ludicrous. Nothing they have done has been for any other reason than to make money. They have seen how loyal the core fan base is and have made a business decision that they can capitalize on that loyalty. They are neither villains nor heroes.

But you're right, they have been too hands off and they are going to regret having given Lou the kind of total control that they have. That is if they don't already.

Man, can Bert Marshall Days come back to these threads with his "Nassore" shtick? Can we send him an invite or something?

Their business/investment decision had little to do with a hockey team or its fans. It's a real estate move.

Wasted season. I’m still perplexed that ownership allowed Lou to trade future assets and sign a guy to an 8 year mega deal in the middle of a hugely disappointing season. It makes me think they still believe in Lou.

Lambert is not really a "different coach". The fact that he has been with the Isles for five years now prevents him from being a real new coach for this team.

I still think that the major problem of this team is Lou Lamoriello in the first place. As said by other users here, he has played his cards very badly for about three years and it starts with the signing of Pageau (and not the transaction which was good in my opinion) and the departure of Toews (following the bad signing of Pageau). Since that time, it's been bad blow after bad blow. The least worst being without doubt the acquisition of Horvat, but for me it's nothing more than back-pedalling and realized much too late anyway: our team is starting to obviously run out of gas!
