JGP on IR...another guy we should be looking to trade. This dude is good at faceoffs and for all the guys who do nothing else but bitch about Josh Bailey, they make the the exact same AAV. JGP is younger and has gotten just as much PP time if not more and honestly produces slightly less. For what we gave up, he has been a bust here. Move on and get a significantly cheaper 3C. Paying $5m for faceoffs and mediocre offensive production from both him and Bailey is a good reason why we are in this situation. Both need to go.

Such a bad trade. Basically cost us Toews plus the assets we gave up for Pageau.

Pageau is a great example of what happened to this team. When he first got here he was feisty. Played with an edge. Scored some PP goals. Now he mostly goes through the motions…collects a cheque.

1000% accurate

Bailey, JGP, Palmieri, and Lee all making a combined 22 million is a major problem. None of them are top line forwards and take up over 25% of the entire teams cap space. 42 goals combined between them for the season, its unacceptable.

For 22 million we should have atleast 1 superstar and 3 competent players.
Yeah every single one of these contracts are bad.

That's exactly what I was doing. You got me.

Or, you can read it again and consider the possibility that I just meant the words that I wrote.

Your post was reacting to those hyperbolic fans calling to tear it down now. And to suggest that if the internet existed back then, that many would also be calling for Arbour to year it down back in 1979.

Directly or indirectly the post makes the suggestion that some fans are not correctly being patient now (since that 1979 roster grew into one of the best sports teams of all time), and if they're not being patient now then it also suggests that there should be a reason for them to be patient with this team.

The next logical step is to then see if fans should be patient with Lou and the 2023 Isles. If you don't want to "carry the one" and have that conversation, cool, but it is very relevant. And thus comparing the 1979 Isles (who given a myriad of factors starting with the age of their core should've been patient), to the 2023 Isles (who given a myriad of factors starting with the age of their core and lack of talent compared to 1979 should not be) to discuss the differences in team-building is exactly what we should be discussing given where the current New York Islanders find themselves.

Yeah every single one of these contracts are bad.

To make matters worse is we have no young top end talent on ELC's to help alleviate these bad contracts. Which is why I dont like the Horvat trade. You need young cost controlled players to contribute so you can spend money on a big name player when the team is ready to go on a cup run.

Need a new GM to come in and really rebuild this organization. Can still be competitive and do that but we need a serious change.

If you're a GM candidate, do you really want this job? Your hands are pretty much tied for a few years with a roster that isn't yours and isn't good enough to compete coupled with a barren prospect pool.

Only by some contracts...plus when you start telling players that the team is rebuilding...The NMC/NTC get waived REAL quick. While Bo and Barzal are lower tier stars, they aren't the worst 2 guys to be leading your top line. Only 32 of these jobs available. Money talks too and some guys love the idea of being able to rebuild in their vision. I do understand your point though.

Funny. From where I sit, the current Islanders find themselves in a playoff race and just acquired a star player. That's where my focus will be. I'll save the team-building and rebuilding discussions for when we are either out of the race, or the offseason.

Way too much old, overpaid garbage on this team. Hope the current or future GM can find a way to retool this mess.
with the acquisition of horvat, maybe he thinks that is what he's doing

from where i sit, they would be the hunted rather than the huntee with a better coach

Bo and Lee are gong to be beasts down low. They can wait but the net as Barzal circles the zone 7 times, curls back eventually by the blue line, and then turns it over

wait a sec.....i'm confused, didn't the Handsome One say he liked Lee with Nelson,

adding to the preponderance of my bewilderment is why in the HELL is Lane "new voice" Lambert tinkering with Top Line Bailey??

It’s desperation time. Lane feeling the heat.
He’s a good guy but I’m not feeling like he’s the leader we need. Former players however say they love the guy and would run through a wall for him so what do I know.

Again the original post, posited that if HFBoards (internet) was around during that time.

The point of the post was about the nature of fandom and specifically how aspects of it are magnified by social media.

As for hyperbole… by definition doesn’t actually serve any meaningful purpose. It’s just the over exaggeration of valid or invalid points.

If you want to tear the current team down, you could just say so. That will make your point well enough.

Hmmm… that’s bold… means Lou is running the espresso machine after dark.

we hate everyone

For a 25 million dollar line they should hopefully be able to produce some scoring.

Back in the 70's the phrase Fat Cats was given to the Rangers when Emile Francis handed out long term contracts to his players.
