Of course you won't take a breath and read my reply to SI where I own that I was being "hyperbolic" and color it in with further thoughts on the subject. You just have it out for me and will take any chance to swing, as opposed to just ignoring me and/or actually adding something to this thread.

If I have an "agenda" it would be for people to not be so triggered and actually digest posts instead of just trying to "get" somebody, so you definitely don't fit.

Very fair, but the market is very limited for guys who can score like Tarasenko can. There isn't a playoff contender that couldn't use him, and with Horvat off the market there have to be several teams in on Tarasenko so I'm betting the final price has to be 1st + good prospect (better than Wahlstrom) at least.
Tarasenko also has a no trade which limits the market a bit for him, he can essentially choose where he goes.

You're right - It is hyperbolic.

That said the way Lou has been known to flip coaches I don't think it's not without merit to say that some out there would choose not to work with a GM like that.

I'd almost like to think that some coaches don't want to work under Lou (and that Trotz wanted to leave) because...

1) Hall of fame coaches who are getting an average lineup to back to back semifinal appearances should NOT be let go.
2) If Lou had his pick of the litter for coaches this past offseason and his #1 choice was Lambert...Then he utterly failed at that part of his job.
I don't feel Trotz wanted to leave. From his interviews after the fact, I surmise he was fired and understands in his words the next week "it's part of the business "

Josh Anderson is back in the trade rumors, can we at least all agree that we are happy Lou traded for Horvat over that overpaid guy? Or am I speaking too soon?

Horvat-Barzal-Anderson first line anyone?!? :sarcasm:

Yes we can definitely agree...But I'd sure like to set the bar higher than, "At least Lou didn't trade for that guy..."

And what does this have to do with the topic of this thread? Go post this in the Lambert thread or something. This is OT and continuing to post things which are OT will be considered spam.

I count at least 10 other posts in just the last few pages by others that are similarly off-topic (starting with the post I was replying to). I'm sure you're incredibly objective and not singling me out in any way, so kindly make sure you advise each of them of the same "spam" warning.

Thank you in advance for your service.

PLEASE Lou

Saw it. Just wondering what's left to give up to get Tarasenko. Might take another 1st, Wahlstrom, and something else. But again VT has a no trade clause so that should limit what the Blues can get a bit.

I also think the Isles need another depth defenseman so can't sell the full farm (not that there's much less).

Dont you think that if Lou is indeed all in this year. That he needs to make his next move like tomorrow?? We have 30 games left, we are 3 points behind for the last wild, but the teams ahead of us have 3 and 2 games in hand on us respectfully.

I honestly does see how he adds we have nothing in the bag to trade. I mean is he now going to trade the 1st rounders for 2024 and 2025?? Let's not have a 1st round pick for the next 10 years.....o_O

We went on how Trotz lost the room and burnt out the players and how Lane was the guy who loosened it up and made it fun. Well, he was Trotz assistant. He is in charge, 50 games as a head coach but Hes been in that room for years now. Injuries aside this team has no motivation to play. They look defeated after given up goals.
That is my criticism of Lambert, his job was to be Trotz light and let the guys play free and take chances.

Steve Stirling took over for Laviolette (SAME TEAM) and got 91 points out of them. If we dont make the playoffs, no way this guy deserves to come back.
Do you forget the team had the most goals in the third period for the first months of the season?

Again your criticism of Lambert is weak- fun?
He was NOT brought in to make it fun or be Trotz light… he was brought in to bring to take this team to the next level. Lambert will always be associated to a more defensive style but what differs in his approach is to not play it all too conservative - D beinf more aggressive to keep pucks it or standing guys up in the neutral zone.

The team’s poor PP has really been this team’s Achilles heal - it was for Trotz and it is for Lane. I am not sure if this goes to system or style - in my opinion it goes to personnel - they don’t have the snipers they need - Horvat has success on the PP and hope he can help.

Now with regard to your Sterling comment - no idea why we are bringing up this scenario-

If it takes the 2024 1st + Wahlstrom, which is a similar package to what the Flyers got for Giroux - then can be best thing I can come up with.

The Isles could resign Tank and then flip Nelson in the off-season for a 1st plus prospect - essentially trading Nelson for Tank, but having both for the playoff run.

You are right - I doubt Lou heads toward the playoffs with Aho, Wotherspoon, Bolduc, and Salo as potential bottom d. Ghost for a 2nd or 3rd ? Or Jack Johnson for a mid round pick ?
I doubt Lou goes for anyone with term - like McCabe.

Brock seems optimistic:

Nelson of Islanders wins Accuracy Shooting at All-Star Skills

Outside of accuracy shooting, Nelson has spent the past two days getting to know Horvat. He said he and his wife, Karley, got together with Horvat and his wife, Holly, on Thursday following a media session in Fort Lauderdale.

"Just to kind of check in, see how it's going. It sounds like a pretty chaotic time for him, being on break, traded, kids and a move across the country," Nelson said. "You just want to go over and offer any kind of support if they need it and welcome them."

"I know he's going to be a big part of our team for a long time," Nelson said. "He's going to help our team make a run here, for sure."

if they are trading for Tank then they give away basically every young up and coming player they have when the equation is done, and since they have already traded away a conditional 1st, they will have to move the 2025 1st for him. If they win the cup then that is perfectly fine, but if they do not (which is far the more likely) and fail to resign both. Then what?

Lou probably won't care and that scares me.

We are going to lose a very special player for tank.

Similar to Van

- Failey
- 1st 2024
- Iskakhov (young Tank)
- Can't trade Wahlstrom because you can't trade injured players.

I am sorry...i can not seem to find anywhere where you can not trade an injured player. They have been traded in the past.

Will come with Tank…

As someone who watches Bridgeport Iskhakov is far from a young Tank, a 2nd, Iskhakov and Salo I’d imagine would get isles Tarasenko if they want him and that’s a big if I think. I think isles are focused on younger guys who can fit now but also later. I’m thinking isles will use their few chips on guys like Meier, Chychrun etc.

I tend to agree with you. I think Lou might be trying to retool on the fly. I’m thinking he is targeting players in the 25-28 range that can be with the team for a few years.

I think there also could be surprising name nobody talks about Lou is looking at as well. I was surprised we got Horvat but I’d really be shocked if we get someone like Tarasenko or Kane. Chychrun really is interesting, just odd they’d pay cap wise for guy that maybe a four or a five here. I will say this, no young player isles have is untouchable as none are good enough for that so Holmstrom, Salo, Iskhakov and 2nd rounder would be offer I’d make for Chychrun. If coyotes are serious about trading him are they getting better offers? I also think we are going to trade Mayfiekd snd recoup a couple high picks there. I think we are in full retool mode now.

I see a lot of people mentioning tank or meier. How the heck are they resigning these guys unless they are rentals. If isles want to sign Bo, Mayfield, Wally and possibly varly on like a 2 mil contract they'll be right against the cap. Even if you get rid of baileys contract that's still not enough for those guys.

I also agree.

Even though I feel the way to have gone was retool and see what you could have gotten for Varlamov, Mayfield and Beau...it does seem Lou is gearing for "all in" and to at least try and get players who are under 30 that can make this run with Sorokin, Barzal, Dobson, etc.

I don't think he wants to break up the now 4 capable face-off guys (Horvat, Nelson, Pageau and Cizikas) by moving any of them to wing (although Bo may play there) and he is looking for another wing (at the right price) and instead is looking for the bigger fish to come on the blue line. He knows he has 5 but is not feeling too good about #6 so that is what he is looking for. I still think it is a Chychrun type he is aiming for.

He still needs to add a wing to put in the top 2 lines so he doesn't have to put Bailey or Parise there, but I dont think it is going to be a big fish, although who knows.

I don't agree this is a "retool" though and unless we really stink up the place in the next 10 games or so, he isn't trading either of Scott or Semyon; which is unfortunate....

I like adding Horvat and I have a feeling I am going to like the players we still add, but it is difficult to get excited about a possible Stanley Cup run when we are so far back and need so many things to go right just to get us into that conversation....

I think the Athletic's latest article titled "Lou's last run" is about the best way to describe what is going on here. He doubled down on this group in the offseason and just added a star player without an extension in place (risky as hell) and seems geared up to do more...

It is what it is and am just hoping for the best at this point...

I think that is just hangover on Lou finally getting a big name and going "all in".

I see a lesser wing personally and the focus on getting a puck mover in the back end being the bigger priority...
