As valid as this may be, it’s still a blown year in the contention window where you’re probably finishing second in the division. If the team has glaring holes, someone blew this one. It’s pretty inexcusable. Hold em accountable.

Aho turns 28 this offseason. You’re losing two top 4 D. Better be a monster f***ing re-tool.
It is. That's why I don't want to spend on it.

What I'd like to see is what we unfortunately will never do because it's contrary to the team philosophy on drafting and prospects.

We have a deep, deep high-quality prospect pool, only lacking in top forward specs. We're already going to have a hard time making roster spots for all of Nadeau, Artamonov, FUS, Blake... We also have an embarrassment of riches (spare high-quality specs and these picks along with our own 1st.). We've now struck out twice trying to find "the guy." We have a lot of cap space to hole fill, but there's no superstar to nab in FA.

I would love to see us cash in the chips and go get our superstar at the top of the draft and have years to sell him on Raleigh.

If there's any team that has the depth to weather doing something nuts like throw 3 1sts and a spec not named Nikishin at someone to snag a cornerstone spec at the top of the draft, it's us.

Man for the first time under Dundon I really don't know what to think about what we are doing. Up until last year, we were excellent in not wasting assets. Sure, some players might have walked but we did well enough to try and backfill them in the margins, and while we might not have fully accomplished it, you could at least see what we were trying to do.

Ever since Guentzel walked, I have no idea what we are trying to do. Even trading for Rantanen, we basically just brought him in and then had no idea what to do next. No plans to hard sell him right away, no idea if he would even be willing to sign here. We just made the trade and just hoped for the best. And then when that doesn't work out, we settle low just to get something, but in the end just got a bunch of futures and a player that is good, but is terrible in the one way we need help the most (finishing). And then we do nothing else.

I just don't get it. I don't get what we are trying to do right now.

With the stockpile of cap space, picks, and prospects, this needs to be one of the singularly greatest offseason a team has ever had.

Major 2C acquisition
Major 1RD acquisition
Major top 6 wing acquisition
Get a f***ing goalie

If preseason rankings don’t have them up there with Florida and Dallas as the top cup contenders, ownership and management would’ve had to f*** up astronomically. Anything besides building a behemoth this summer would be wasting the fan’s time, wasting Aho and Slavin’s careers here, and would be going back on promises made from the organization regarding the direction and goals of the franchise.

Good points. This is where we miss Don waddell’s personality. He no doubt would have handled the people aspect of this whereas Tulsky and Dunedin are not people persons

Some of y'all never played EA NHL Franchise mode correctly, and it shows.

You sell, sell, sell, and bring in young guys to replace aging stars, and then go win the Cup anyway because you're insanely good at EA NHL and can beat the computer on the hardest mode with 21-year-olds that you're going to muscle from 82 overall to 91 overall by just making them produce.

Then 3 weeks after winning the Cup you're picking 1OA at the draft. Rinse. Repeat.

Dallas will be bad by 2027... right? :sarcasm:

Challenge is that in this version of the NHL most teams are bullish in the off season. They wait until TDL to lower the flag.

The worst part of all this is that winning an actual cup takes a back seat to impressing other nerds. I get the need to be competitive long term but our fans WILL check out after another early playoff exit or two regardless of whether the team is good or not after that. It happened in Vancouver and Winnipeg, it’s going to happen here

This roster will be good for years and well beyond 2027. We will have a late first pick if we retain it and if we don’t all the other teams will look at the same way.

Stank will be your 2c
this yr maybe , i hope in the off season we get someone like Marner , and stank will be gone within 2 yrs if we decide on KK being our 4th liner , i think Robidas will be better , This is why i wanted Wsg Capitals Prospect they were highy touted , Stank and 2 very late 1st rounder aint much , and if Woody Allen is still here at the draft , i bet he deals our pics for a meh player

we got our 2C today, though he might have some growing pains. Our need is 2 top 6 wings, and an RD1. Goalie might be Freddy again.

Svech - Aho - Jarvis
UFA/Trade - Stank - UFA/Trade
Hall - Staal - Martinook
Blake - Koko - Carrier/Robinson

Slavin - UFA/Trade
Nikishin - Chatfield
Ghost - Walker
