Chase Clark and AIC's season is over, having lost games 2 and 3 (in OT) against top seeded Holy Cross in the Atlantic Hockey America conference tournament. Clark started all 3 games, all ended up as 1 goal games with a total goal differential of 9-8 for Holy Cross. In total, Clark made 95 saves on 104 SOG for a save percentage of .913. Holy Cross is #20 in the nation, so generally a good showing by AIC considering the matchup.
Maybe Clark will take the extra time to find a fourth college for his fourth year.
In the Big Ten tournament, 7 seed Notre Dame pulled off a pretty big upset over 2 seed Minnesota, winning their best of 3 series. Given that Minnesota is #3 in the nation, it was a big win. Nicholas Kempf didn't play at all in the series. Ryan Chesley had an assist in Minnesota's game 2 win, but now gets to focus on schoolwork and practice while waiting for the full NCAA tournament field of 16 to be announced on the 23rd. They're a shoo-in.
Notre Dame now gets the privilege of playing #2 in the nation Michigan State and David Gucciardi in the single elimination conference semi-final game next Saturday the 15th.
Also in the Big Ten tourney, Ohio State (3 seed) completed the series win over Wisconsin (6 seed), 2 games to 1. Brent Johnson's goal in the opener was his only point of the series. The Buckeyes will go on the play 5th seed Penn State, who "swept" Michigan in 2 games, in their own single elimination semi-final game on the 15th.
I have no intention of continuing these updates next weekend. Lots of us will be paying attention to NCAA hockey with BC (Leonard) BU (Hutson) and, most eagerly, Northeastern (Lemay) playing.
