It's not a size thing. Brad Marchand's 5'9". Seth Jarvis has been one of our better playoff performers. The notion that we need 6'3" monsters to compete with Florida, to me, misses why we lost to Florida and to New York, and that's because they got under our skin and won the mental battle.

They didn't bully us like a bully that beats you up against the lockers. They bullied us like the kid who's more popular than you and gets his friends to laugh at how funny your mom dresses you until you get so mad that your comeback makes you sound stupid and then they laugh at how bad you are at comebacks until the whole thing becomes a perpetual vicious cycle. Sure, having a guy that can just calmly punch that dude in the face to get him to stop can help the situation. But having a) guys that that doesn't get to or b) our own nasty little goblin boys who can out nasty the bullies is sufficient.

That stuff doesn't affect Aho or Jarvis. It sure affects others on the team. It sure affected Necas. If Stankoven is as spunky as his reputation, he's a guy that helps the "bullied in the playoffs" cause, not hurts it.

Well, that's major solace for us not trading for EP40 then.

Hopefully the return for Rantanen is pretty good, but I'm kind of skeptical. I think it will be more quantity than quality.

Okay, the trade return was worse than even I expected for an extended Rantanen. Wow, an undersized 2C and draft picks from an annual playoff team! What a f***ing shitshow this turned into! Also, Rantanen proved my theory correct that he didn't intend on playing for us. His character took a big hit in my opinion (not that he cares or thinks it did). We offered a contract in his reported range, we're an annual playoff team, we have a well respected head coach, and we have Finnish players including his best friend Aho who he's played with internationally.

So, yeah, I would've preferred we traded for EP40 even with his work ethic concerns; maybe a change of scenery would've done wonders for him given the toxic locker room he's had this season with Miller and his lingering spirit even after he was traded (not to mention his name was clearly floated as a trade target; that probably didn't help his already awful morale).

As valid as this may be, it’s still a blown year in the contention window where you’re probably finishing second in the division. If the team has glaring holes, someone blew this one. It’s pretty inexcusable. Hold em accountable.

Aho turns 28 this offseason. You’re losing two top 4 D. Better be a monster f***ing re-tool.

Yeah, our front office ended up throwing this season away. A lost year for Aho and Slavin who are almost 30 years old. Not to mention Burns who will probably retire after this season; if not certainly after next season. Now I think it's even more likely we don't make a deep playoff run this year. We didn't even flip assets to try to improve our depth after trading Rantanen.

With the stockpile of cap space, picks, and prospects, this needs to be one of the singularly greatest offseason a team has ever had.

Get a f***ing goalie

If preseason rankings don’t have them up there with Florida and Dallas as the top cup contenders, ownership and management would’ve had to f*** up astronomically. Anything besides building a behemoth this summer would be wasting the fan’s time, wasting Aho and Slavin’s careers here, and would be going back on promises made from the organization regarding the direction and goals of the franchise.

With our team's luck, I doubt we'll "rise to the occasion" to improve our roster to the level we need to this summer. We also keep encountering Murphy's Law too often; including us shooting ourselves in the foot; see Jake Guentzel and Brett Pesce being low balled contract wise last summer and walking away as just recent examples.

so nevermind the draft picks we gave/received , Woody traded Necas and Drury for Stakanen for this yrs playoffs ... cmon the guy has to be canned , i bet us Chair GMs would have called this season a wash and tried to trade Orlov , Anderssen , Burns and the other ufa's that team would have been interested in , like right now after Rantanen gone we have more than 4 mil cap space , what a waste (unless Dunton really needs the 4 Mil) take an exemple from Moneyball , the geekie Stats guy got fired like a yr and half , get a hockey GM already , not sure why Dunton didnt give Francis a chance , i guess we can do alot worst with an Owner /Gm Trump/Vance LOL

I think talks should be going now , i say 4Mil max same for Orlov see if he would take a small rebate like 3x5 , we could have a great defense next year with Niki and Morrow fighting with Chatfield for 6th spot
