Because they're not going to give him up in their window when he's their future 1c any more than we'd have given up aho..

Robertson and Johnston were probably untouchable. They're trying to win a cup.
There’s a time when you play hardball, pay or go home. The Canes were in a position of strength IMO. I believed Mikko would have been who we expected if we kept him for two reasons

1. He wouldn’t want to lose out on a big payday with poor play (yes I know he would command a lot of money anywhere he went, but poor play can affect a contract]
2. The chance for the Cup.

So if Dallas wanted him that bad they would have met the demands or say no thanks. They contacted the Canes not the other way around

What are the odds another move is made today? Haven't heard a rumbling of anything non-Mikko related. 1 hour to go.

Wyatt has same Agent than Rant , dont go there , ban that agent
And, coincidentally, the Stars are going to reach an extension with Wyatt on the same day they sign Mikko long term. Hm.

Maybe it happens, I don't care. This is a retool year regardless. Unless there's something with term, whatever. We got a good return from a player who was an attempt at a long term move but who didn't want to be here. Mission accomplished.

Is it not as simple as they didn’t want this version of Rantanen on the team anymore and rather than watch him give 50% the next 3 months, they are trying to get something of value in return in an otherwise shitty situation. Coming away with Stankoven and 2 1sts is much better than the former scenario IMO.

Maybe there collusion with agent and Stars management , i would be too funny they lose their pics and we get Rantanen back

We wanted to sign Guentzel but we f'ed around too much with the negotiation and lost him to Tampa.

Necas has always had long-term disagreements about his usage and fit here, and those spilled into contract negotiations. He was always eventually going to be moved.

We moved him (and Drury, who is fine) for Mikko Rantanen, who is an exceptionally good player. We wanted to extend him. In fact, we offered him a larger contract than the one he just accepted with Dallas. He didn't like being here and it showed in his play and attitude.

Since we weren't able to extend Rantanen, and didn't want to lose the investment we made in him for nothing, we flipped him to Dallas, for a package that we would've been good sending Necas and Drury for anyway. So... assets-wise we got better (contending this year-wise we probably didn't, but we've still got an hour an a half) than we did when we started. It was just a long, circuitous, dramatic route to get there.
Thank you
