Is there a deal even close to this that's ever happened that you are aware of? When guys are a month or less from UFA, it's typically a mid round pick or less because the trading team doesn't have any leverage if they aren't going to be able to/don't want to keep the guy.
UFA, I don' know. But I think the Tkachuk trade between Florida and Calagary was a sign and trade. He was RFA, but had nearly as much leverage as he could walk the next year with huge QO.

Would Vancouver do it? Maybe, they seem unlikely to afford Lindholm given the contracts for Miller and Pettersen, and the need to sign Hughes in the near future to a very big contract.

Would Lindholm do it? I don't know, but if he didn't have bad feelings about the Canes, and we offered a good contract to him, he might forgo going to UFA for an 8th year. He won't get that as a UFA.

1 - can't see them having him on the block and 2 - he just missed essentially the entirety of last season, I'd like to see how he bounces back before even considering it.

Considering how friendly his contract is when he's healthy, not only in terms of cap hit but also because it expires to RFA w/ arb rights instead of UFA, I would still consider trading for him even with his season-long injury. I'd go as far as even sweetening the pot on our end with a decent prospect in order to make it happen.

And that doesn't even take into account that he's only 23, is 6'4"/217 lbs, skates incredibly well for his size, and is a right-handed center. You can't create a better trade target for the Canes than that.

Knee injury might change that...I don't think his value outside MTL is nearly as high given that. I wouldn't trade Necas for him without seeing how he's recovered, and if he proves it didn't hamper him his value to MTL would be sky-high

Much less likely as a 23 year old, but yeah, there's always a risk of that happening.

Hi, I am a long suffering Leafs fan, and I come in peace. I am wondering what your thoughts are on Martin Necas? Is there any truth to the rumor that he wants out of Caroliona, and if so, what do you think the Canes will want in return?

With all due respect, he's like the last player you all would want to bring in. The weaknesses in his game would only be magnified in your lineup.

I wouldn't even know who we would ask from you all in return. Haven't followed the team close enough for that. And I'm still not sure who we would be targeting in general for a Necas return

Young NHL C who can be a 2C, or young NHL D preferably RD. Older player signed longer-term would also be fine.

I don't see anything that matches up with Toronto.

Thanks, and from what I’ve heard back from a few other posters, he’s not the type of player we’d want. Also, it appears both our teams are looking for the same thing.

On another note, you guys must be very pleased that Brind’Amour is coming back.

Athletic with an article today from their Boston writer suggesting that the Canes should not deal Necas for Ullmark.

But, as a "small market team" they may want to get ahead of the arbitration number and move him. Geez..........

sorry if this question has been addressed in past posts/threads; but, I'm curious as someone who has not followed our prospects---who do you guys think of the recent signings (Morrow, Nadeau, etc) is most likely to get regular ice time next season?

Morrow, I’d say, barring a disaster of a camp, is a shoe-in on the 3rd pair.

I don’t think Nadeau or Blake make it, unless they absolutely blow the dooors off, which is fine.

I also think Unger Sorum has the inside track on a roster spot and Suzuki may surprise. I bet they sign Comtois for league min as well to fill out the bottom 6.

I don’t think any of them have that much of a chance. Morrow is pretty unlikely to be NHL ready in his own end, he struggled in college that way. The only way I see him playing is if he’s sheltered as the 7th specialist or a very sheltered third pair which doesn’t make sense to me. Too long a season for that, though it may happen occasionally. TDA may not want that role any more but he’s a much more logical choice for it if he’s cheap and willing. I think we will acquire a top four guy like Hronek to help the pp if we lose Skjei. I’d be surprised if we were in a spot to need Morrow’s offense to the point where we skip his needed minor league defensive development for short term band aid needs. This a crazy off season for us though, I suppose you never know. I think we’ll have three new dmen or 2 plus TDA. Maybe even a 7th ahead of Morrow.

We finally have our own AHL team and I think the rush of signings had more to do with filling that team out with our kids. We lost a handful of offensive prospects this season and needed to reload. Nadeau and Blake both could’ve stayed in college and gotten stronger next season and it wouldn’t have hurt either of them. Either of course could steal a spot over someone but I’d bet that isn’t the plan - they’d have to really steal it. I think RBA would do it for sure if one has a truly outstanding camp like Jarvis. He was great defensively from the get go, I don’t know that I think either of Nadeau/Blake are like that but you never know.

We debate around here about the coaches preference, but I think if he has a choice between a defensive vet and an upstart youngster that may score but otherwise are relatively equal he’d choose the vet. So imo the best way to get the kids involved is for the Borg to make sure there’s a hole or two and not have vets available for fighting for that spot.

If they leave a bottom six spot for a prospect my first guess would be Suzuki if he’s healthy. Comtois isn’t a prospect but it wouldn’t surprise me if he or someone like him will be in the mix for these spots. We need fresh legs in the bottom six.
