Quinn and a good pick would be a plenty fair package. Quinn can score. I wouldn’t expect the 11oa in that package. A later first, next years maybe (protected). Maybe a second and another pick added.

Quinn is a fair core piece in a Necas trade.
Of course I meant one of those guys....plus an asset or so as is necessary. There was some "in season" rumbling about Tuch, which is why I included him.

Regarding Quinn, as was just mentioned, you're not doing a 1 for 1 trade based on potential ad family name. He's injury prone and significantly unproven. Buffalo is adding a pretty respectable piece to him to make the trade work, IMO.

The only reason for my valuation is because the FO has insisted on a high valuation. I believe that they are serious about keeping him should it come to that. I also believe that if Marty truly wants out, then the organization has a history of accommodating these types of desires.

I think they want Tuch to be a lifer so we’ll see where that goes. I’d be surprised honestly if Buffalo included any of the guys we’d want, I think it sends them a little sideways. They have a good prospect list. I could see us chasing Kulich or one of their other top prospects. Something that allows us to get value but doesn’t subtract from their current roster. I could also see that kind of ask being the impetus behind the “Canes price is too high” sentiment going around.

Someone mentioned Geekie. I could actually see that. Rod liked Geekie, he’s a righty center who plays the style well enough. Has added some scoring so that wouldn’t be a shocker if Boston could give him up. They’ve been mentioned with Lindholm. Maybe if they land him one of Geekie or Coyle becomes available. Both as players make sense as righty centers with size who play both ways.

If Canuck aggregator accounts are to be believed, the Canes still are “in it”:

Also, I think Friedman said as much a few days ago on NHL Network, something to the effect that they’re still trying to sign him.

On Necas:

I think BUF has the most appealing mix of young, roster players and futures in terms of a Necas trade. That Pizza Guy account (no idea if legit or not) has hinted multiple times that BUF has been aggressive on that front.

I may have said this on here, because I've mentioned it so many times I don't know where I haven't. Pierre Lebrun who is pretty plugged into the Canes, said Canes made a "Pretty Strong 8yr offer". I think strong for the Canes is 8.5-9x8yrs. So that's somewhere between 68-72 million. So unless Canucks or others are offering 10.5+ x 7yrs, then Canes have to still be legitimately in the running.
I dunno.

Wasn't the Canes strong Hamilton offer 6.5 when he got 9.5 from NJ.

If the market is offering Guentzel 10.5ish I can see the Canes offering Svech money or 7.5m x 8.

Re Necas:

Buffalo: why would they want Necas they have tons of offensive players?

They'd benefit more from a Pesce or Kotkaniemi in the lineup.

Detroit should have more use for him because they could use more dynamic skaters but they of course have less interesting trade chips than Buffalo.

Yup. Likely the Canes offered 8 years for a lower AAV than others might. He’s probably shopping for enough AAV to make up for that last year he loses.

I wonder if we offered the Orlov to him. Crazy AAV for two years, apparently we offered that to Skjei?

I believe it was 8x6.5. New Jersey gave 7x9.

2 year high dollar is the only possible Skjei contract that actually makes sense for the Canes. Otherwise Nikishin is blocked from anything beyond the bottom-pair long-term.

If it's Buffalo the asking price is Peterka+, point blank. Quinn is interesting but he can't stay healthy. They don't have the available blue line pieces I'd want.

Detroit would need to offer Sandin Pellikka, but they could without subtracting from their roster or even their long-term outlook.

I thought the only ones who called the offer to Hamilton "strong" were people within the org (Waddell and such). Having Lebrun putting it out there hopefully makes it a bit more honest.

If they wanted to add that would be a tough deal for Buffalo though.

This is kinda what I was thinking. With LeBrun mention it being strong and Elliote saying we're still in on him makes me a little more optimistic than I was whenever they were trying to sell off his rights.

Given Svech is already 7.75, I could see Carolina offering 8x8. $64 million, requires any team to go above $9M to match.

The question is if Guentzel "hears" of an offer above $9M before July 1, does Carolina increase that 8 year offer?

I would say that I would go as high as 8x8.5, personally, for Guentzel. 7x9 is also doable under the Canes' salary structure, as well.

I would do Sandin Pellikka for Necas straight-up. The Red Wings don't have a lot of RHD prospect depth beyond him and Seider, though, so that's probably an easy no for Detroit.
