I'm not even going to dignify your imaginary Q&A with a response. It's dumb.

How about Messier/Medved. How'd that work out?

It's all hypothetical. We'll never know what they talked about or didn't - so this is moot and I'm done.

My imagination is dumb but your “if Panarin says the right things then you have to resign him” is smart?

He’s a RFA, one year is smart b/c we don’t know what will happen a year from now. Flexing the rules in place, which were put in place for a reason, is smart.

I love how we went from playing 4 games against teams ranked top-10 in 2 months to playing 12 games against teams ranked top-10 in a little over a month and social media is full of "We're losing because of Kreider's injury".

Yeah, maybe we're losing because we aren't playing lottery teams all month long

I am not saying we aren't missing Kreider, but these losses should not come as a surprise to anyone

makes me wonder if resigning him was the right thing. Two ways of looking at but 7 years is a looong time.

was curious about who could be UFA in off-season,
if he gets healthy, and NYR recall Nieves and he plays 4 games,
he will reach 80 NHL games, and not be Group 6 UFA.
Give him those games, retain some rights, can always move him for a pick or similar change of scenery player

I dont know how Howden is perceived around the league, but would be happy to explore packaging him someone to upgrade LD. And then signing a veteran depth forward on a short term deal. Howden is a 4th liner with 3rd line ceiling potential.

Just thinking of areas we could improve, which depth forward is certainly one of them. McKegg they could upgrade from although I have liked his speed and energy lately. Just has hands of stone. DiGuiseppe I can see them bringing back but as a 4th liner.

There's no doubt that losing Kreider and Shesterkin hurt, but everyone knew by now that this last stretch was going to be rough. Then you factor in that despite the feelings expressed on this board, the absence of Brady Skjei, on some level, does create a little bit of a vacuum effect --- whether we want to acknowledge it or not. So that's a significant shift to our roster from just two weeks ago.

Part of the challenge with teams that are higher in the standings is that, in most cases, they are built in a way that they can make you pay for even a simple mistake or they have a higher likelihood of "getting the good bounces."

So while it's difficult to come down off the rush provided by the Rangers 9-1 stretch, this isn't totally unexpected either.

At 2-1 in a game we’re playing wellGeorgiev let’s giroux beat him off his back foot with a shot from distance that somehow he completely whiffs on with his glove. 3-1 philly game basically over.

Sunday Lundqvist flat out awful in a game where carter hart kept his team in early. We have no chance.

last night 1-1 game Georgiev let’s in a beer leaguer to a team that you knew if they scored it was game over.

now I’m not saying it’s all on the goalies but I talk about this all the time. Situational goaltending. Timely saves in important spots in a game. These two hank and Georgiev rarely step up to the plate at this point in their careers.

Shesterkin made the difference many nights. Whether that was not letting a game get away from them keeping it a 1 goal game keeping it tied or letting us get the first goal. He’s got it. Binnington and Hart in those three games had it. Timely saves. At this time of year against good teams you can’t win without them.

The right side of the defense and top 6 is definitely playoff material. LD and bottom 6 is a mix of terrible and young/developing.

The margins we are playing with are tiny, and we had a streak where it all came together. Injuries or not, a slide against better team was predictable.

You can blame Hank or Georgie all day, but Igor wasn't carrying this team on to continue playing .800 hockey. Sorry.

If I had to rank them in terms of importance - it would be Shesterkin ahead of Kreider and well further down Skjei. In a difficult situation Smith has done admirably and, honestly, we all got tired of waiting on Skjei to consistently give a level of performance expected of him from the fanbase and team management when they give him his long-term deal.

Georgiev let in as many goals the game before Hank’s. Both goalies had teams in front of them playing undisciplined and lazy. Both goalies faced very effective offense. One goalie had sat about a month. Hank should be the very last person with any responsibility for our play as of late. Guess who took another dumb penalty last night, costing us our lead and the momentum?

https://nypost.com/2020/03/03/chris-kreiders-injury-exposes-rangers-youth-problem/

we lack the depth to be anything even resembling a threat in the playoffs, Shesty or no.

One of the challenges I think we have is that the progress of some of our youth has gaining glimpses of our future, but how close we are to that future can be a little deceiving at times.

We're kind of like a roller coaster going up an incline. The front end of the coaster is starting to get over the hump and heading toward the drop and some really exciting times, but the back end of the coaster hasn't quite caught up yet.

I'm confident we'll get there, and our momentum will continue, but I still think we're more or less in the moments right before the truly fun stuff happens.

Thoughts on who to target via FA if enough salary comes off the books?
Could Dadonov be a fit with whats happening to try and bridge things short and long term? Say 3/4 year deal?
Although, I'd be very curious to see what Granlund will get. I think he would be ideal for this team both short and long term but can't see that happening unless Gorton does something very savvy.

Which comes hand in hand with having the youngest roster in the league.

Which we really can't overstate enough.

Even someone like Chytil, who feels like a veteran at this point, is only 20 years old and several months removed from a stint in the AHL.

Trouba, a veteran, is practically an old man at RD and even he's only 25.

im less concerned about this year and making the playoffs now. really no big deal at this point.

BUT, i still do believe that we would have made the playoffs if shesty doesnt have the accident and kreider doesn't break the foot. we're in if those things dont happen. and that experience of making the playoffs, the feeling of a playoff series and having this team take that step would have been beneficial to thus teams overall development and then next year these guys would have expected to be in the playoffs.

im not even that excited for his draft given where we will be picking. no one really move the needle for me and certainly not any time soon. who we draft this year just stocks there pipeline. thats not bad, its just nothing to get excited about for the next few seasons.

i love where this team is heading with our top 6 PLUS Julien now. i love the right side of this defense. and Shesterkin is legit. just need Kakko, Fil and Kravtsov to break through next year and play big roles.

just get me a left side defense to go along with ryan lindgren. get me a couple sound defensive lefties who understand how to play defense and a bottom 6 with some guys who can play a more gritty, in your face game- ala the blues, and im ok with this rebuild.

things are very bright for this organization and next season we will make the playoffs.

Here lies the problem...this is where players need to be slotted to be successful at this point in their career, not necessarily the positions but what line they should be on on a contender. Some big holes to fill.

Panarin Zibanajad _______
Kreider __________ Buch
Chytil Strome Kakko
Lemieux Howden Fast

_________ Fox
Lindgren? Trouba
_______ DeAngelo

(Shesterkin)
Georgiev
Lundqvist.

With the Kreider signing, I dont think we will add anyone at a significant salary.

Maybe a bottom 6 vet, but thats it.

We have only around 15 million to sign DeAngelo, Lemieux, Fast, and Strome.

6 for ADA
5 for Strome
2.5 for Fast
1.5 for Lemieux

Not much wiggle room, and thats assuming we trade Georgiev. To keep Georgy would require a buyout.

Just further proves we are not a play off team (yet). STL without Tarasenko is a play off team. Every team misses good players from time to time.

Feels like it also kind of stresses that maybe we should have been selling more at the deadline to compile more assets (whether Kreider should have been part of that sale or not can remain on the backburner, but it seems like if there were other two-for-one or three-for-one deals available we should have been taking advantage).
