Yeah well. In rugby I preferred being an inside center, yet my coach put me in an openside flanker position which turned out to be much better suited for my skill-set
From Quinn on March ~21
“I liked Fil in the middle,’’ Quinn said. “I thought Fil, for a guy coming off the flu, had a lot of jump. That being said, I liked his game two games ago, too, and the one after that wasn’t so good, so I don’t know if it was a position switch, or if he just had a good night, but obviously, we envision him, and would like him to be a center, moving forward. With his skating ability, we think it frees him up more, so I’m anxious to see how this continues to move forward.’’

From Chytil at the same time:
“But that was something that was probably in my head . . . that I am back in the middle and I can play more . . . and create chances, [and] have chances by myself. I like to play center, so [to] be in the middle, skate a lot, that’s my game.’’

...“I felt comfortable there and I felt . . . I don’t know, I played center my whole life, so maybe going back and playing in the middle was great,’’ he said. “And I was happy that [Quinn] made the move, and I can play in the middle right now.’’

If we do indeed draft Kakko, I actually think Kreider is the best choice for an opposite winger currenty on the roster. Kakko's game is the circles and in. Which means I think he'd have a lot more offense if he had a speedy winger that was effective at puck retrieval. Kreider is that, plus with his own power and skill he'd be lethal with Kakko. If we trade Kreider, I think we need to find a speedy guy whose very effective on the forecheck.

With Yzerman in Detroit, should we be studying their roster to see who is coming over? Or did he already bring to Tampa all the guys he likes? I haven't thought of the wings as a trade partner because both teams are rebuilding but he seems to like dealing with us.

Can’t see much unless it’s a crap contract for each other ... maybe Smith back there for Helm ? No trade though

I just worry about signing Kreider for 7 more years. Not physically he is shape. He just disappears to much. Maybe him on a line with Zibby and Kakko he would play better or to his full potential.

I don't disagree that a 7 year deal is a big risk. The game Kreider plays means he gets banged up and he's always been a bit streaky. That said, he's a 1st/2nd line winger whose speed still impacts the game even when he's not scoring. These very speedy wingers are just incredibly effective for puck possession and breaking down d systems.

As we remake and rebuild, at some point we need to pay attention to adding speed. Kakko, Zibby, Kravtsov, Chytil, Howden, Andersson, Strome, Namestnikov and even Panarin (if he signs w/ us) they're all average to above average skaters, but not speedsters.

I would argue that Kreider's value to us is higher than it is for many other teams. So, I think this Kreider decision is a real balancing act. I also think we can trade that contract in 2 years. If we trade him for a 14th or 15th overall it just may not be enough value for us. Keep in mind, we can trade him at the deadline and likely get a first in the mid-20s in a possibly deeper draft. Either way, we'd likely be getting a player that's 2 years away and may never reach Kreider's level. I think, ultimately what it will come down to is -- do we prefer keeping Kreider to shelter the development of the current crop of kids or do we trade him for futures that is likely 4 years from truly impacting the NHL roster? I think it becomes more clear if can trade Kreider for a 2nd top 10 pick this year, 2 1st rounders, or a mid-1st and a team's top 3 prospect. Teams like Buffalo, Nashville, Calgary, Winnipeg could all be in on a bidding war for Kreider in that scenario.

Interesting, most of those who don’t want to extend Kreider have concerns about him breaking down on the back 9 of a long term contract as a primary reason.

Re-Sign Kreider. 6 year, $6.5 million per.

Sign Panarin 7 years, $10 million per.

Prior to these, trade Vesey and Nams at the draft. Frees up the money for Kreider.

Kreider and Kakko on a line is bonkers

I think this would be the surest way to ensure we never end up a cup winner.
Please explain how creating an excellent top 6 ensures us not eventually winning a cup.

I would LOVE to know.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko
Panarin-Chytil-Buchnevich
Lemieux-Howden-Kravtsov
Strome-Andersson-Fast

@ZuccsFluffierFluffer looks to me like we are good with the LW slots to be able to have both Kreider and Panarin.

In two years, cap will go up and we will have $26 million coming off the books. We can spread that around to our kids coming off ELCs and still be able to add a Defenseman via free agency / trade.

Why? I like pointing out your terrible roster ideas. It’s fun.
There isnt a bigger jerkoff on these boards than you and that is a given. Only clown to ask someone to make a bet with the parameters being the loser deletes their account.

You got some growing up to do kid.

Ask Edmonton how their Lucic contract is doing.

You are comparing Milan Lucic to Artemi Panarin and Chris Kreider.

Definitely apples to apples.

Ok no need to discuss further if that is the basis for your argument, which i was very open to listening to until that was said.

And only someone who is scared and is not confident doesn’t take it.

But keep on with these “Let’s give two wingers 16.5 million dollars” roster plans. Extremely likely to happen...

I mean it is a Roster Building thread on an internet message board. Forgot we should all just agree and not have any discussion. My apologies.

And to that point, it is an internet message board. I’m not scared of some clown on the internet. Stop being a complete troll loser that is so desperate for someone to take a bet with him on the internet. You need to get out, get some fresh air, and find some meaning in life.

It’s fine to have a discussion. But when you put out a completely unrealistic idea don’t be surprised when you get called out on it.

You seem to have this complex where if someone challenges one of your bad ideas you can’t understand why they would even have the audacity to do so or even credit the fact that where the opposition is coming from is completely logical. You need to get out, get some fresh air, and find some meaning in life.

I'm comparing Lucic to Kreider. Except Lucic had actually hit 30 goals before and consistently scored more points than Kreider with less injuries at the time of his signing.
