I mean, I feel like this is a grass is always greener situation.

If K'Andre was draft-eligible this year as opposed to last, after the year he just had, don't you think he's challenging Byram for top D chosen overall?

I think he'd be a clear #2.

A year of development is pretty massive at this stage and while NCAA production>CHL production, what Byram has done this season and particularly of late is nothing short of exceptional.

Miller has #1 potential, but hes less of a sure thing than Byram is IMO.

Trade Kreider for futures.

No long term commitments. The Rangers will do their due diligence talking to player agents and other GM's about making trades. No long term commitments needs to be the end result.

'Don't know what to say': More questions than answers...

TB gave Stralman a 5 year contract. He was always hurt this season. Stralman turns 33 this summer. He wasn't good for the entire term.

The Rangers have talked to Tampa about Callahan's contract. The Rangers can take on the one year contract. Get TB's 1st rounder(27th) in exchange. Give TB back their 2nd. Callahan's $5.8M cap hit and #27 for #58. Callahan has a limited NTC so he has some control. The Rangers are on his list of acceptable teams. Ottawa will be in the market to take on money to reach the floor. Callahan isn't going to Ottawa. Callahan will be good for the Rangers young players. Gorton told Dave Maloney he is looking for experience character guys to help the young guys play the right way.

The Rangers made the right decision trading McDonagh. During the season, there were a few Rangers followers saying the Rangers should have kept Trucker and not traded him. He was awful in the Columbus series. He was the McDonagh from his last 3 Ranger years. Gorton tried to trade him at the 2016 draft to Edmonton after his 1st bad year coming off the serious foot injury. Gorton saw what was happening with McDonagh.

I like JT Miller but he isn't worth the money either. $5.25M. 5 years. TB will look to move him this summer. Yzerman gave him that contract. I heard on the McKenzie podcast with Lebrun and Dreger before the trade deadline that the new TB GM Julien BriseBois isn't as big a Miller fan as Yzerman. They discussed Callahan's contract during that podcast and Dreger brought up the Rangers as a possibility.
The team paying Hayes will realize the same thing. Hayes will get more than 5 years and $5.25M per. Kreider isn't going to be worth his 6 years/$39M.

The Rangers didn't want to pay JT and they traded him. The Rangers didn't want to pay Hayes and they traded him. Kreider is up next. Gorton needs to have his head examined if he pays Kreider.

Yzerman also gave McDonagh a big extension. 6 years and $6.75M per. It would be $7.5M in New York with state income tax. Good luck with that contract. Ages 29-35. Yzerman is a funny guy. He knew he wasn't going to re-sign with TB but he gave out those two contracts before leaving in September. The new GM might have had different ideas. It's already been suggested he isn't a big JT fan.
A little shine is coming off the Yzerman Apple lately. I rather Promote Gorton. Or JD as a second choice.

Of those, Miller probably has the best chance. I think that Lundqvist is a second pairing guy (hopefully he can prove me wrong). DeAngelo, I would not call a #1. He is probably best playing 2nd pair. Perhaps if he continues to progress, you could have him on top pair but with a strong defensive partner.

This is why if the Rangers do indeed trade into the top 10, I would be praying that Byram drops. But I doubt it. The kid is gone 3-5.

I still wonder if the Rangers trade-up target isn't Soderstrom.

Twitter is for twitter. HF Boards are for HF Boards. Where in this thread or Shesty/Kravston thread is anyone saying that Henke is done or playing at a backup level?

I'm not going to go back through the threads and link you to posts. If you were reading the threads as they're going you see almost every other post is about Lundqvist being done, sucking, going to retired, should be traded and so on and so forth. I'm not making this crap up.

Literally the post after you asked:

Goalies with 30+ games (48 total).

35th in save percentage.
38th in GAA.
0 shutouts
32nd in wins.
He did have 0 PIM and 3 A so there's one positive. Maybe he can be moved to defense. That way both Georgiev/Shestyorkin will be able to be on the team. Henrik has a brother who is a skater so I'm sure he can do it. He'd probably be a big help to the young goalies blocking shots in front.

It's time to let Georgiev play full time until Lindbom is ready to take over. Shetyorkin has an out to go back to Russia so hard to trust him.

Tampa is not going to pay much to trade Callahan. They can buy him out and save over 3 million in cap next year. The second year his cap will be under 1,6 mill.

Tampa has just over 73 mil committed to 16 players next year. If the cap is 83.5 mil, that gives them about 10 mil to sign at least 6 players. How much is Point going to get coming off a 41 goal, 92 point season? If they buy out Callahan and replace him with a player on an ELC, the net savings is only about 2.4 mil. If they trade him instead, they save about 5 mil and don't have any penalties the following year when they need to re-sign Cernak, Sergachev, Cirelli, Mathieu and Vasilevskiy.

Can I be honest?

After seeing Panarin clown Kucherov in the handshake line last night...I kinda want him now.

Still signing with Florida!

Honestly, I like Stevie Y and people claimed him out to be a God, but, man, the smoke has cleared and does it look as amazing as it once did? McDonagh, Miller, Callahan, and Killorn deals? BRUTAL.

They need to trade players. Yzmeran gave out way too many long term deals to their depth (even if their depth is good) and it has really hamstrung them. There is no need for all of Gourde,Palat,Johnson,Miller,Callahan,Killorn to have gotten such long term deals. Even if the deals were fine value at the time it has really hurt their flexibility to do anything. Even if they get rid of Callahan/sign Point they are going to have the exact same problem next year.

Vegas has $82,375,000 committed to 19 players next year (one of those is Clarkson, who is on permanent LTIR for 1 more year). Karlsson and Gusev are key RFAs. Both 26 years old.

If the cap is 83.5 mil, and with Clarkson on LTIR, they will be able to go up to about 88.5-88.75 mil depending on how close they get to the cap ceiling. They will need to sign/promote at least 4 players. The will likely re-sign Subban to be the backup goalie. 2 forwards and 1 dman. They don't have enough space to re-sign both Karlsson and Gusev.

Stastny has 2 years left, but I doubt they want to trade him. What would they give up if we took back Eakin and Clarkson? Both have 1 year left.

So Buch, Lemieux, Pionk and DeAngelo become RFA and we have about 22M projected cap space.

How much will we have left for UFA shopping?

Interesting UFA market (besides Bread and EK65) this summer.
