I don't think he really had to. Wilson in the first matchup didn't even hit anyone. This team clearly has not been the team to lay down this year. Players aren't getting run. Hank used to get crushed on a nightly basis and nobody did shit. That hasn't happened this year. Thats the Reaves factor. They all play bigger. What will Reaves do? He has this reputation of being a fighter when he’s not. Hasn’t had more than 3 fights in a year in 6 years. If we put Reaves on the ice against Wilson that’s major advantage Washington. He didn’t even fight Wilson to start this year after all the Panarin stuff
I like Reaves but I think Igor gets run a lot and I think we play softer than the last two years. Reaves is such a gentle giant, compared to maniacs like Lemieux, DeAngelo & even Buch. Any of those 3 guys respond with way more aggression if anyone tries anything dirty.I don't think he really had to. Wilson in the first matchup didn't even hit anyone. I think Trouba most of all has benefitted from this. He's a different player. Far more physical then he was earlier on.
The only thing I think he could have done differently was with PK Subban. Slew foot king got away with a lot this year. Reaves should have given it to him. Take the misconduct for that one all day long.
I admire your commitment to the bit.I like Reaves but I think Igor gets run a lot and I think we play softer than the last two years. Total agree.. keger is now a full time black aces bartender for life!!I have no problem holding onto him for another year. Depth is good. Hes great in the room. If shit arises he's there. He's part of the team.
But at this point in time he shouldnt be playing over anyone really, except maybe McKegg.
It’s true though, I could find many videos for examples. I am probably one of the biggest Reaves fans on here, I wouldn’t scratch him for a single game especially in the playoffs. But he is always laughing with opponents and he isn’t as much of an asshole and doesn’t have the same anger problems that those 3 had. DeAngelo sees red and turns into an animal when he’s fighting, the guy tried fighting Ross Johnston FFS lol. We led the league in fighting majors for the few seasons with Lemieux & DeAngelo.I admire your commitment to the bit.
Yeah ok. Not even close to being true. We have been the more physical team far more often than last year. I have seen a big difference this year. Nobody wants to fight Reaves. Thats really the reason he doesn't have many majors but he will answer the bell if needed. He's a monster when he's throwing them down. He's whooped some ass in the few fights he has had.I like Reaves but I think Igor gets run a lot and I think we play softer than the last two years. Reaves is such a gentle giant, compared to maniacs like Lemieux, DeAngelo & even Buch. Any of those 3 guys respond with way more aggression if anyone tries anything dirty.
Softer? I dont see that at all, largely due to the lack of incidents to respond to.I like Reaves but I think Igor gets run a lot and I think we play softer than the last two years. Reaves is such a gentle giant, compared to maniacs like Lemieux, DeAngelo & even Buch. Any of those 3 guys respond with way more aggression if anyone tries anything dirty.
I wouldn’t be so sure on that. Kakko is a prime offer sheet target. Struggling recent high pick on a team that’s entering cap trouble? You offersheet that guy 10/10 timesBoth of those contracts are overpayments, by design. They overpaid on the first contract so Montreal wouldn't match. The second contract is an overpayment in the hopes that in a few years, he will be underpaid.
I doubt any team is going to offer sheet Kakko, and the Rangers aren't going to give him an 8 year deal. For every Kotkaniemi there are dozens of other players who get a show-me bridge deal. Kakko will be one of those players.
Wtf are you even saying? We’re softer than the last two years? Absolutely not. I don’t think our new grit has made that much of a difference but this is an outlandish claim based on no evidence. You’re just saying things to cause controversy and discussion at this pointI like Reaves but I think Igor gets run a lot and I think we play softer than the last two years. There have been a few games when some were complaining that he didn't run somebody but I don't want him running around taking penalties in tight games. I think he is more measured in his approach and again if the team needs him to make a statement I think he will. It’s true though, I could find many videos for examples. I am probably one of the biggest Reaves fans on here, I wouldn’t scratch him for a single game especially in the playoffs. I can find tons of posts this season from posters saying the same thing that even after adding all this grit, we’re softer, play with less energy, etc than the past 2 years. That first game of the season against Washington was just sad. We came out like maniacs last year and that was without DeAngelo or Lemieux even.Wtf are you even saying? We’re softer than the last two years? Absolutely not. I don’t think our new grit has made that much of a difference but this is an outlandish claim based on no evidence. Reaves is always laughing because he CAN, he doesn't need to be a character out of Stripes. If you give him reason he may separate you from your senses, if you behave it's all good. Yeah, TDL and Lemieux are psychos, but the Wilsons and Martins are the ones laughing. No one is scared of either of them, they'd rather keep Reaves smiling. And he's STILL going to plaster you to the boards. It’s true though, I could find many videos for examples. We led the league in fighting majories for 3 years, now we’re like 17th.Yeah ok. Not even close to being true. We have been the more physical team far more often than last year. Id argue that’s more of a point to reaves effectiveness. Lacking the need to fight. We led the league in fighting majories for 3 years, now we’re like 17th.
That could be because our guys aren't being run as much and assholes like Wilson and Martin aren't as bold with Reaves on the ice. Being tough doesn't mean just how many fighting majors a team has.We led the league in fighting majories for 3 years, now we’re like 17th.
Last year NYR had 1288 hits in 56 games. 23 per game.We led the league in fighting majories for 3 years, now we’re like 17th.
If by "is this good?" you mean "is this graph a comprehensible visualization of something?" then the answer is no.
13% increase in hitting, but I think our even strength possession numbers are more than 13% worse. More hits can also mean the other team always has the puck. But idk I just personally see less intensity with this teamLast year NYR had 1288 hits in 56 games. 23 per game.
This year 1845 in 71 games. 26 per game. That is a 13% increase in hitting. That doesn't even take into account the QUALITY of hits. Some of the hitting this year has been MONSTROUS. There's no comparison. FAR more physical team this year. And as mentioned, if you are tough enough you don't have to fight as much. That's a GOOD thing. Team was universally considered soft last year while having all those fights. Not anymore.
I just took a look at that list. It really doesn't tell the whole story. Teams like Carolina and Washington only have 9 majors and Dallas is last with 6. Do you think those teams are less physical than the Devils who have 18?We led the league in fighting majories for 3 years, now we’re like 17th.
I think alot of it is teams that are physical and have big guys who can win fights, dont "need to fight" so the total number of major's is lower than those like the devils who play a much smaller game and get pushed around physically.I just took a look at that list. My thoughts exactly.I think alot of it is teams that are physical and have big guys who can win fights, dont "need to fight" so the total number of major's is lower than those like the devils who play a much smaller game and get pushed around physically.
