Reaves has 21 goals the last 4 years. He has 10 fights. Why do I care what he did 5-10 years ago?
Lol even someone who has half as many fights as he does goals should show you that he, in fact, is a fighter….

If you consider someone who averages one fight every two months a fighter then good on you I suppose. He's a tough hard-hitting fourth line player. He is not an enforcer. Hasn't been in a very long time. He hasn't even been in the top 20 in fighting majors in the last 4 years.

Also your statement makes no sense. All it means is he isn't a good goal scorer. It's pretty easy for someone who averages 5 goals a year to have half as many fights as goals. That requires 2-3 fights.

This is nothing new:

I even thought he would have 6-8 fights moving here with Wilson and such. I was wrong. He's the same has been the last 3-4 years. He will fight on occasion when the situation arises. He's not out there looking to do it. And I don't buy the argument of "Nobody will fight him" there have been plenty of big tough guys who fight a lot and people aren't scared to do it.

I am a Reaves fan but if we lose Motte for any extended time and replace him with Reaves or Gauthier that is a big downgrade for the 4th line. The way Motte plays I would say he is our most important 4th liner over Rooney, Brod, Hunt and Reaves.

He cleans up a lot of other peoples mistakes.

goodrow seems like he often provides a short term spark for whatever line he's on but his ability to keep up offensive momentum often isn't great

that said, Laf and Chytil gotta find ways to finish and Gallant needs to find ways to trust them with more icetime

If we face the Pens it's a no brainer that if Motte is good to go Reaves needs to sit. It's obvious the Pens don't like playing against the speed that someone like Motte brings.

What will Reaves do? He has this reputation of being a fighter when he’s not. Hasn’t had more than 3 fights in a year in 6 years. If we put Reaves on the ice against Wilson that’s major advantage Washington. He didn’t even fight Wilson to start this year after all the Panarin stuff

I think you're missing the point, it's like having a speed bump in the parking lot and saying why do we have that there nobody is speeding? But you take the speed bump away and realize the only thing keeping people from speeding was the bump. There aren't too many guys in the league that want anything to do with Reaves, teams as a whole play differently when he is in the lineup. I guarantee Pittsburgh doesn't do anything at the end if he's on the ice.

They’ll get more ice time if they start finishing, but at least with Goodrow on that line they at least look NHL level players.

When healthy I'm expecting

Kreider Zib Vatrano
Panarin Strome Copp
Laf Chytil Kakko
Motte Goodrow Rooney/Hunt

He'll move back up with the first injury.
Doesn’t make it the right move. Let Kakko move up when the injury happens. Rangers are playing very good hockey right now and shouldn’t be disrupting what they have to accommodate Kakko who hasn’t played since January.

I'd rather not continue to ruin his development. Goodrow is a great 4th line player. Before Kakko started playing through the wrist injury he was looking fantastic.

And Goodrow has a whopping 4 points in the last 21 games, what exactly would they be distrupting?

Chytil and Lafreniere need continuity. They are finally playing good hockey and Goodrow helping that line out is a big part of it.

Everytime they try to put that kid line together it’s terrible. Why make everyone go backwards? Team is playing well right now so why blow at least one of the lines up?

Let Kakko show he is healthy and then figure it out. Nothing wrong with building himself back up while he shakes the rust off

He is an enforcer that nobody wants to fight. This is very common knowledge. We could take an HFboards poll and 100% of people would disagree with you

There is absolutely no reason as to why Gauthier can't fill that role here if needed....maybe it sinks in one of these days and something will click in his brain .

Motte had to have separated his shoulder, no? Just watch the way he skates off. He knew. Gallant knows. We know. Gallant telling you he has no update is a kind way of saying, yea, we aren't going to disclose how bad he's hurt. We are lucky if we have him in May.

I think Kakko would be great on that third line so I don't see the hesitation in moving Goodrow down who recently has been hurting the line more than helping. That line is currently chasing the puck along the boards if the rush doesn't work because Goodrow has been treating the puck like a grenade recently. Kakko is the answer to that line imo. Goodrow might benefit from a bit of rest. I would try to get him a day off once Kakko is back. Chytil has been good in his own zone recently and Kakko is a good defensive winger so I don't see the problem defensively. Laf is also a lot better than he was at the beginning of the season.

Agreed, it would be a big loss.

That said, Kakko and perhaps Rooney coming back can help ease the blow.

If Kakko comes back he either starts on the 4th line on which I see him thriving in a mostly defensive, forechecking role. Or he pushes Goodrow down there which is also a win. No doubt though they will miss Motte's speed big time, tough to make up for that.

He has literally never been in the top 10 in fighting majors in his career. If you think 10-12 years ago the toughest guys in the league were all afraid of some 23 year old kid I don’t know what to say.
