13% increase in hitting, but I think our even strength possession numbers are more than 13% worse. More hits can also mean the other team always has the puck. But idk I just personally see less intensity with this team
Fair point about possession, that's possible, however the hitting this year is on a whole different level of intensity than last year. Opposition players are getting (cleanly) laid out on the regular. Apples and Oranges.

Last year NYR had 1288 hits in 56 games. 23 per game.
This year 1845 in 71 games. 26 per game. That is a 13% increase in hitting. That doesn't even take into account the QUALITY of hits. Some of the hitting this year has been MONSTROUS. There's no comparison. FAR more physical team this year. And as mentioned, if you are tough enough you don't have to fight as much. That's a GOOD thing. Team was universally considered soft last year while having all those fights. Not anymore.
Case in point, what happened last game against the Devils. Schneider laid out a Devil and then beat the shit out of the player coming to his defense. That's happened quite a few times this year.

At this point people that shit on graphs are being lazy and not even attempting to understand them. This simply means that his linemates are better at 5v5 when he is on the ice.
I literally have a degree in math and it took me a solid minute+ of staring at it to figure out that the lines weren't corresponding to labels.

I would say Trouba leads the team in fights because of that.

At least they called the Instigator. They need to really enforce it and emphasize it. I'd even make it a double-minor in given scenarios

I mean he got the instigator and a 10 min misconduct. That means their bench is short a player for 1/6th the game on top of the penalty. Thats the right call, it hurts the team twice in that scenario.

I would not break up any of the current lines when Kakko and Rooney are back. Play them both together with Motte. Keep some continuity for a change. Think that lets the Rangers roll four strong lines that make sense too

I would 100% drop Goodrow down. Who plays with Laffy and Chytil? that's debatable... but it will probably be Kakko until he gets back into shape

Kreider Zibs Vatrano
Panarin Strome Copp
Laffy Chytil Kakko
Motte Goodrow Rooney/Hunt/Reaves

that's stacked

Because nobody will fight him, lol. 117 fights, but not a reputation of being a fighter.....Ok.

He has a clear presence on the ice and in the locker room. He allows our skill guys play a skill game. Unfortunately for the past couple years Brendan Smith wasn't cutting it. Teams stuffed us in lockers, its very clearly different this year.

Yes and Joe Thornton has 430 career goals too.

Why drop Goodrow down? Lafreniere has played his best hockey with Goodrow. Chytil has been useful recently. If it’s not broke don’t fix it.

I think the Rangers really expected Barron to be doing more for a guy who is already 23. I liked him but he wont be missed.
Let’s not act like they actually gave him a shot though

I get it they wanted him to come in and take a spot but not everyone does that

because goodrow is the weak link on that line. He does not get the puck to either of those players. They basically play short handed because of goodrow.

Goodrow is also covering up for how bad those two are defensively. Similar to what third man on the Panarin line ends up doing. Lafreniere especially has played his best hockey this season when he was on the same line as Goodrow.

Lafreniere and Chytil have looked lost most of the season. It would be ridiculous to change it up on them again to accommodate Kakko especially if he isn’t running at 100%. They need a vet on that line who knows what they are doing.

Considering Kakko was one of our better defensive forwards before getting hurt im not too concerned about that switch.

They have tried that kid line combo multiple times this season. It has rarely worked well. All to disrupt a line that is working well to accommodate someone who hasn’t played since January? That’s moronic. Not to say it won’t happen but it’s a very dumb idea.

I can find tons of posts this season from posters saying the same thing that even after adding all this grit, we’re softer, play with less energy, etc than the past 2 years. That first game of the season against Washington was just sad. We came out like maniacs last year and that was without DeAngelo or Lemieux even.

Lol no.

Last years team was incredibly soft. Both physically and mentally.

Ok so lets look at the other options. Kakko on the first , no that replaces vatranno who has looked really good on that line.
Kakko on the 2nd, no that replaces copp, who would then replace goodrow so you're still messing with the third line.
Kakko on the 4th ! thats it! thats the perfect spot for the former 2nd overall pick who we want to breakout! lets play him on the 4th line with reaves and mckegg!

No you play him on the 4th line with Motte and Rooney and give him a chance to play himself into shape and eventually move up if it makes sense. Simple. It’s not like he is going to coming back without rust. And thankfully the Rangers have better options than Reaves and McKegg in bottom six now.

Reaves has more fights the past 10 years than he has goals in the NHL…

Not sure you are going to convince anyone here that his reputation isnt of a fighter.
