Sample size for post deadline is getting larger and the numbers are just as good, if not getting better for the Rangers.

58.21% of the xGF%, which is 4th in the league. 58.79% of the CF%, also 4th in the league. Oddly enough, the results have been underwhelming, only 51.13% of the GF% in that time. So, dominating the game at 5v5, but the in game results are closer than what the expectations should be.

The culprit is a 2nd worst 5v5 SV% in that same timeframe. .871 SV% at ES. Only the Capitals are getting worse 5v5 goaltending since the deadline.

The lineup will get even better with Kakko back soon. If Shesterkin reestablishes himself over the next three weeks, there is really a chance for a special season.

I'm the first person to bring up how much better we have been BUT we've played a bunch of bad teams as well and that needs to be taken into account. That said if we're going to be criticized for losing to bad teams we should get credit for at least outplaying them.

IMO Kakko will make his way back into 'untouchable' category by the end of this season.

I still think they are going to give Chytil another year.

I truly think this is the team we will have for next season, give or take, but with only one of Copp or Strome.
Kids will fill in other holes.
Maybe Kravtsov comes back?
Blais back.
Maybe one of Vatrano or Motte?
I want Vatrano back... if ONLY for the shoot 1st mentality that he brings. We need MORE selfish players... not "pass it into the net" players.

The Rangers play more of an attack game with Reaves in street clothes.

They are a much more noticeably slower plodding and predictable team with him, and a faster more tenacious team without.

Against heavier teams, maybe he suits up, but I doubt the Caps get past either of Carolina or Florida.

I'm not dressing him against anyone else really

Unfortunately, unless Reeves retires we’re stuck with him.. but the truth is he is the nuclear option we need to allow our skilled player player play their games with goonery..

Exactly keep Reaves around and stick him in the press box for the year. If Wilson or someone takes a run or does something stupid then toss Reavo in the next time we play them. He realistically shouldn't play more than 15 games next year. But hes a warm body that guys respect and rally around

Meh, our results were terrible all season even when playing bad teams. Getting those numbers up, regardless of opponent, is definitely a positive sign.

I could 110% see a team like Buffalo or Montreal adding Reaves. Hell, even a team like Arizona...

What will Reaves do? He has this reputation of being a fighter when he’s not. Hasn’t had more than 3 fights in a year in 6 years. If we put Reaves on the ice against Wilson that’s major advantage Washington. He didn’t even fight Wilson to start this year after all the Panarin stuff

I have no problem holding onto him for another year. Depth is good. Hes great in the room. If shit arises he's there. He's part of the team.

But at this point in time he shouldnt be playing over anyone really, except maybe McKegg.

No one should be surprised about the Reaves situation. This is always what happens with Reaves.

And wilson has also done absolutely nothing in all the games we've played against the caps.
Reaves might not have fought wilson but having wilson do nothing is worth the lineup spot we "lose" by having reaves in the game.

Because nobody will fight him, lol. 117 fights, but not a reputation of being a fighter.....Ok.

He has a clear presence on the ice and in the locker room. He allows our skill guys play a skill game. Unfortunately for the past couple years Brendan Smith wasn't cutting it. Teams stuffed us in lockers, its very clearly different this year.

I mean just look at trouba's play this season. He's absolutely punishing people. His play has bounce back heavily, and his game is going to be perfect for the playoffs.

Don’t be surprised if Reaves doesn’t crack the top 12 forward group come playoff team. Right now I think it’s more likely we see Goodrow, Motte, Rooney, and Hunt on that 4th line. He’s 14th on the depth chart for me. Brodzinski might even push him down further.

If it’s keeping Reaves or cutting a million of salary so we can lock a long term steal Kakko deal, I don’t know how that’s even a question.
I fully expect Reaves to play the first few games at least of any series. That's where you start wearing down the other team with your hitting.

Based on his body of work and contract status, what is equal value?
Kakko is worth more to the Rangers. The player has the ability. His puck possession numbers are good on a team which doesn't have very good numbers overall. I watch other players in The NHL such Mikko Rantanen. Kakko can't be a player like Rantanen? Sure he can.

When Bill Parcells coached the Jets, he made the following comment about his kicker John Hall.

After Hall kicked a 37-yard field goal in overtime to give the Jets a 19-16 victory, Parcells answered a question about Hall missing some key field goals earlier in the season by saying, "We're trying to get this kid off diapers and into his street clothes. Today, we took those Huggies off." Parcells remark appeared in several major newspapers, including almost every one in the New York market, and more importantly, played several times on ESPN and CNN.

It's time for the Rangers to take the Huggies off for both Kakko and Lafreniere.

Rantanen can actually shoot the puck tho

I don’t see a team offersheeting Kakko. It’s just too much risk. If he had been a surefire first line player for us so far, maybe it’s worth the risk of pissing off the entire league, but for what he’s shown to date, on top of how much you’d have to throw at him, just far far too risky.

I agree with reaves in, it'll be tough but yeah reaves will be in the first game or so. Especially if we've got home ice.

He does forecheck, but he's just so slow some teams will have an easier time getting passed him.

Gudas is FAR and away the hit leader in the NHL.
Reaves is 3rd, just slightly behind Jeanotte for 2nd despite playing 8 fewer games, and 30% less time per game. I fact if he had the games and time that Gudas does he would be leading the league.
He might APPEAR plodding, but somehow he manages to hit someone 4 times per game in 10 mins or so of playing time... doing SOMETHING right...
Gudas gets close to 5 hits per game in 18 minutes.
Hitting is a skill, an IMPORTANT one in the playoffs, and Reaves is unarguably one of the best at it. He's going to play.

He's a deterrent. Who actually wants to fight Reaves? Tough guys like Wilson and Martin have been quiet as a church mouse this year. He serves a purpose.
