I think he certainly has value to land an impact return if he’s part of a package.
As a piece sure. Some team will like size/skill package and the fact that he has control years left.
But as the main piece, or on a 1 for 1 type deal, no way.
Already dealing from a position of weakness plus the added damage done to his value over the last year and change

I was going to say that we should consider claiming Rask because it would give us another “young center” with some upside…until I saw he was 28. It’s wild how quickly time flies.

I’d wager our likely TDL targets are 1 of
Jarnkrok, Donskoi, Lehkonen
And we’re likely also keeping a close Eye on Boyd in ARI as a potential 3C.
If Drury is only offering a 2nd/3rd picks and prospects like Renunnen etc, the guys above are the best possible returns.
But odds are a guy/trade like that won’t be made until the offseason/draft for a potential long term young 2C with high upside

Dallas has huge decisions on the horizon. They really need to safely be in a playoff spot to self-rent Pavelski, Radulov, and Klingberg. Even Holtby. I dont see that happening.

I could see a similar situation to CBJ a few years back when they went all in with Panarin/Bobrovsky on expiring contracts

Offensively, yes. But he is playing much better and smarter defensively now. Very few of his patented o-zone obstruction penalties and he’s generally in the right place.

Thats not true...he's playing the same as he always has, now people are starting to realize they were wrong and trying to change the narrative that he's figured something out, he's been good since he got here. I'm amazed at how much people pile on the guy when all he's done since he's got here is outplay his contract. If he was on another team people would be making up stupid trades to get him....its hilarious.

Man if the Rangers stay in the Top 3 in the Metro by the TDL, I'd go all in on this season. There will be tons of cap space for this season alone that I'd target Joe Pavelski or Ryan Getzlaf for 3C, Nick Leddy or Mark Giordano for 3rd pair D, and Phil Kessel for RW depth. With the cap being prorated by the TDL this would all work capwise so how about these deals:

Joe Pavelski and a 3rd Round Pick
For
Filip Chytil

Nick Leddy
For
Patrik Nemeth and a 4th Round Pick

Phil Kessel [with some salary retained]
For
Alexandar Georgiev, Matthew Robertson and a 3rd Round Pick

Kreider-Zibanejad-Kessel
Panarin-Strome-Kakko
Lafreniere-Pavelski-Gauthier
Goodrow-Rooney-Reaves/Hunt

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Leddy-Lundkvist/Jones

Shesterkin
Kinkaid

Pass on Kessel. I don't like trading Chytil for a rental, either.

I do like the potential of a deal around Chytil to get Faksa out of Dallas, though.

If Georgiev is traded, I'm gonna need another goalie coming back.

Rask is a piece of furniture. Paul Fenton made a terrible trade a few years ago (Nino Neiderriter) without scouting the player. Minnesota has tried to move him several times.

One guy I’ve seen mentioned once or twice is Dylan Holloway. He’s been off the radar in Edmonton and I have no idea about the extent of his injury but that’s a guy we could put together a package for.

I doubt reilly Smith gets dealt. He’s way too important to the knights.
Especially now with patches wrist surgery, playing the LTIR game like Tampa.
They likely self rent him similar to what we’re doing with strome.
If they had to shed cap, dadonov and Janmark likely go before Smith
They would have a tough time moving Dadonov’s contract. Real tough.

CBJ did that because they dont have as long of a history as most teams and also havent come close to winning.

Dallas made it to the cup final, even if it was in the bubble. They were decimated with covid issues during the shortened season last year while also being a group that was another year older. They are now just another year older this season for a full 82 with this group. I dont see them going all in if they are not securely in a playoff spot.

And obviously based on the Stanley Cup trophy Columbus has, that was a great idea.

How does this exactly help us?
Chytil has very murky value, but you could probably swap him for another teams change of scenery kiddo fairly easily. A lot harder to trade him for something else

As far how zadina himself helps, that's up to the pro scouts.
