I think he'd end up getting claimed by someone. Arizona would 100% take him just to stay cap compliant when they decide to move Kessel.

If he clears, 50% retained for a conditional pick would be all that I would offer. He is definitely better than McKegg.

Does Rask stink that bad ?
On waivers but makes 4 mil

Rask was described by MN fans as "the most awkward skater in the league" and someone who "skates like he has cinderblocks tied around his waist." They felt most of his points came off of a short stint where he centered Zucc and Kaprizov.

In watching some clips, he definitely looks to be on the slow side of skating, but he has a pretty good shot and looks like he reads the play decently enough. I just don't know how much of an upgrade he would be over what we already have in-house in Chytil or Goodrow.

I'd trade a conditional/late pick for him @50% for the hell of it because we have the space and depth never hurts, but he's not the ideal 3C that we're after.

Sabre’s fans on Twitter are already starting to talk shit about how much our fans would give a half ass trade for McDavid. They didn’t like that we wouldn’t want to trade Kakko and Laff for Eichel. Like we wouldn’t offer Kakko and Laf for one of the greatest players ever who’s not even 25 years old

people are already assuming we’d land McDavid which is funny bc they know everyone wants to come here
You can set your watch to when their inferiority complex comes out. Funny part about Eichel is that we had the best deal on the table by far but got nixed by TP.

Timing is everything, and the Rangers may never have a better opportunity to win a Cup than this season. Weird covid year, the league is wide open, tons of cap space and stockpiled assets. Oh and Hart, Norris & Vezina candidates in their prime.

The Ranger future is Fox/Igor/Kakko/Laf/Miller. They are going nowhere. But this team can and most likely will go all-in.

Kravtsov, Chytil, Gauthier, Hajek, Lundkvist, Jones, Rangers 1st, Rangers 2nd, and the Blues 2nd. All replaceable or redundant parts that could be moved for rentals.

Pieces like Lundkvist, Jones, and Kravtsov are too talented to be redundant. Even if they are traded they are worth more than rentals, they should be parlayed into long term core pieces, because yes we still do need a few.

Agree on pieces like Hajek, Gauthier and second round picks.

There will be very few teams that can actually complete a McDavid trade, much like with Eichel, because of assets, cap, need and real money. The Rangers can be one of them.

This is the same way he started in the SEL. He starts slow, gets his feet under him and then builds from there. He's not a super flashy puck mover but he is going to be a good d-man in this league.

I'd be more inclined to start looking at new pairings though:

Miller-Fox
Jones-Trouba
Lindgren-Lundkvist

Late game situations throw Lindgren-Fox and Miller-Trouba together

I don't think Schneider will be ready until the middle of next year honestly. Eventually someone will need to be traded to save cap space and to upgrade elsewhere but I don't see the rush. Play the best 6.
Totally agree with your first paragraph but if we’re looking for a center, gonna have to give up quality somewhere.

IMO the question is do we use the assets we have to go for a cup or two.

Or are we looking for 'fair value' and a 'slow burn'....

If last offseason is any indication, we're going to be over paying for missing pieces. Over pay for the retention of good players.

I know it's hard to fathom but we're as good as any team currently in contention. Even more so if/when we solidify our weaknesses.
I think they’d overpay but it will have to be for a guy on an expiring deal or a young const-controlled type. Don’t expect to see them alter the foundation at all.

Per cap friendly, the Rangers have ~$28m in cap space at the deadline. It's not an either/or thing.
I agree but expiring contracts aren’t really that big a deal for teams. They’re already budgeted-in so it’s not like teams will be desperate to move them, in general.
The likely application of our excess cap this season would be a ‘perfect storm’ where there’s a productive vet on a non-playoff team who wants another playoff shot. Like Kessel. And I assume Drury is keeping an on some similar players. No idea who they are though.

We wouldn’t need retention as his deal is expiring and we have plenty of cap this year.

Pavelski man. Pavelski. Can play with Panarin and Strome and take a lot of the important strong side faceoffs. 53% on draws, brings great postseason numbers and leadership.
I doubt Dallas is throwing in the towel just yet. Definitely worth monitoring the situation though.

Dallas has huge decisions on the horizon. They really need to safely be in a playoff spot to self-rent Pavelski, Radulov, and Klingberg. Even Holtby. I dont see that happening.

This team hasn’t been in the playoffs in quite a while, so there is still plenty left to be learned about where we should be looking to make improvements.

No, spend everything we have right now!

I think it’s going to get heated on the McDavid front sooner then later, the guy is on an embarrassingly awful team with an embarrassingly awful front office. Literally has a higher peak than Crosby, imo, and the Oilers every season make absolutely awful moves that handicap their team.

how long till he wants out?

I wonder how hot that’ll be. He’s about to turn 25 and has 7-8 years of prime hockey. God the Rangers better be all over this if he ever decides he wants out of Edmonton.

No way to be all over it if we send away all our top trade assets like Kravtsov, Chytil, Nils and first round picks for things that become literally nothing in four months.

Look

Look, I know how you feel about moving futures for rentals you make that clear in almost every post. I was just look fo an objection perspective on value.

Sorry @EdJovanovski , like I said, I do love Kravy, I just think the relationship is broken beyond repair, and these two players put the Rangers over the top.

I wouldn’t do the deal. But I also think so fans have Kravs value higher then what it’s actually perceived. Not saying he’s worth nothing or a late 2nd like lias. But as far as him being the premier piece in a trade to land a legit impact guy, I doubt it.
Teams also know that him returning to the rangers is likely never going to happen after leaving for Russia twice.
I def agree that the divide between Drury/krav is too vast and each really doesn’t think highly of the other or trust their words. When it gets to that point, there’s not much more to talk about.

I think the most likely scenario is he’s added as a sweetener piece on a big deal. A young team like OTT that has a whole at RW would be a good landing spot for him

I think he certainly has value to land an impact return if he’s part of a package.
