You can't blame the players for trying to get as much term as possible. You can't blame the Rangers for not wanting to give them term. Time to move on.

Zuccarello wants 5 years. Hayes wants 6 or 7 years. No thank you.

How about Kapanen, DeBrusk and Fiala being the main piece with another top asset or two coming back for Kreider? We will be talking about the Rangers trading Kreider as a rental next February 21 if he is still here. You know we will. Kreider will want 6-7 years for $7M per in the summer and Gorton will say no. It will linger all season and come to a conclusion at the 2020 trading deadline.

Now I know for sure that Brooks reads this thread.

I suggested Nylander, Fiala, or Debrusk as main pieces coming back for Kreider just yesterday.

I just listened to the 31 Thoughts podcast trade deadline special. It seems Nashville’s fallback plan is Hayes if they don’t get Duchene. The Rangers believe they will get a good pick for McQuaid.

Fiala would be a real nice piece coming back for a guy like Kreider. Fabbro is going to be a VERY good NHLer. Nashville is looking to compete this year and next year. After that their cap is going to be a mess. I'd be pushing Kreider on them. Size is obviously something Poile is looking for up front. Boyle. McLeod.

Because he's another soft Euro?

no, just soft, overrated and grossly overpaid. 12 points in 31 games on a loaded team with a great coach? He is terrible. And got a cap hit of 7 mil for next 5 seasons. Whoever gets him will really regret it.

In less than two years the team has traded their #1 C (Stepan), their captain and #1 defenseman (MacDonagh), a leading goal scorer (Grabner) and two top 6 forwards (Miller & Nash). They'll probably move another defenseman and two more top 6 forwards by Monday. And yet the full on tank brigade are the one's preaching patience because some posters here are entertaining the idea of signing Panarin or EK. Like, how bad do you people want this team to be? They're a game over .500 and aren't getting Hughes or Kakko unless they get crazy lucky. The idea that this rebuild isn't or can't be complete unless they land the first or second pick in the draft is such a cry baby mentality. Winners don't think like that. Hopefully the GM doesn't either. They have some good pieces here and on the way, build from there.

The 2nd round compensation range is interesting
Again, I’m not a pick hoarder and I have heard mixed reports about next years draft (so diff to see that far out I would imagine)

But I would rather hold my 2nd and use it in a trade up scenario or packaged w another prospect for prospect trade.

Offer sheets tie us into paying someone more than they’re worth

That just depends on the situation though. If Kapanen was the guy, I'd give him a 5 year deal @ $4m per season. That's 2nd rounder compensation and a deal Toronto would have a major issue matching.

Those are the two guys I’d want from Nashville, I’m very wary of Tolvanen

They have good pieces, they don’t have great pieces is the problem
