That just depends on the situation though. If Kapanen was the guy, I'd give him a 5 year deal @ $4m per season. That's 2nd rounder compensation and a deal Toronto would have a major issue matching.
It’s intersting but again I think we would need to see where next year is headed... and where TO is headed.

I think they may be going for it this year knowing they might lose someone next year and they may be ripe for a trade that gives us something to help their cap situation and we take advantage of them that way

Leafs fans on twitter are hilarious. Thinking they could dump the Zaitsev contract on us in a Kreider deal but wouldn't want to give up anything of value. Talking about Zaitsev, Connor Brown and a 2nd. Literally laugh out loud funny.

Oh let's get that high end player and give them a bunch of garbage in return! Fair deal, right?

It's loony season.

You can also take it as a clear sign that nothing is imminent.

Its probably exactly like Brooks said, teams are exploring several options and not ready to pull the trigger on something. If you had multiple bona fide offers its another thing.

I don't trust NHL GMs either. Their value shouldn't be impact one bit on how they play the coming days, but does NHL GMs function like that?

They shouldn’t be playing. They shouldn’t have played on this road trip. Last weekend against Toronto should have been it. All we’re doing is picking up pts that are hurting us and risking serious injury to guys on the block. Watch McQuaid play again too when we’ve got healthy dmen sitting.

I'm a little surprised that Zucc asked for 5 years, but he obviously decided to do what his agent recommends.
Discounts and short term is a thing of the past. And he won't return here, since they are miles apart contract wise.

This is actually what I hoped for, Zucc goes to the playoffs.
Looks like the Rangers have quit trying to go there this season, but it's expected.

I need a respite from this silly season.

I had a pneumothorax on Friday (second time, nothing serious) but I am home stuck to a tube for the rest of the week, probably a little longer. These processes are so effin tedious. Last year we really got some action, but there are no guarantees that we will see a ton of action again. Could end up being just 2 deals.

In the end my bet is that Gorton has been really really active and if there is something that can be done, he will do it. I think there is a good shot that we will see Gorts execute a bit bigger deal, something that might move us forward in terms of the rebuild. An expanded rental trade. But you never know...

BTW, does anyone know if there are any U18 games from like one of the 5 nations this year available to watch online? Would like to catch up some when I have the time.

I'm not surprised, he's trying to get the best contract for himself since he knows it's likely his last.

Yeah, I think its just the natural process of things in the NHL. Sometimes I think its overblown, and teams focus too much on tomorrow. But there is a business side to things and I don't think it makes sense financially for either Zucc or NYR to keep him here. NYR wouldn't want a long term commitment nor deal restrictions. Zucc can get a long term deal elsewhere, he would have to give up so much to stay in NY.

Zucc seems to be in great shape, hopefully he has a few great years in front of him elsewhere!

They’re delusional. Some of the dumbest proposals I’ve ever seen.

The one thing in the Brooks article that stood out to me was the hangup on the years for Hayes. Something seems off. If they really want to keep him, are they going to let an extra year hold the deal up? Is Gorton that worried about 6 years from now opposed to 5? I'm not sure if it's posturing or whatever. Zucc I can see the hesitation on term but not Hayes if he's a player they want to keep.

Why do people think Kreider is worth Nylander + First. This is not reality.

I kind of think it would be the Rangers adding to Kreider.

Leafs actually get a sort of cap discount on him next season since he held out so long this season, his cap hit will be ~6.9M for his next 5 years.

Kreider for Nylander straight up would be an unrealsitic coup for the Rangers in my opinion, there would likely have to be other moving parts.

They also drafted a RW in Vitali Kravtsov so it make sense to move Mats, but I`m surprised if he play this evening based on the recent trade rumor this morning.

True enough.

He'll probably sign with the Isles or the Devils, then he can still live here in NY.
I think the Devils would actually take him 5 years @ 6M per ;)

Who knows, but it sure wouldn't be a first added to Nylander.

I also don't understand the hate for Nylander. Of course he's not getting huge minutes. They have Matthews and Tavares. Z-Bad would be getting something like 12-15 mins a night there at C.

When people talk about our fans overrating our own players, they're really not kidding.
