Someone: "who would you rather have coaching the defense, A. Lindy Ruff, or B....."
Me: "B!!!"

Give us names of people you would rather have coaching the defense and tell us what you would want to see them implement in place of what Ruff is doing. People tend to just blame everything on Ruff and not on the fact that our defense's ability is low

Why would a team with 7 LD and 0.5 RD trade for Skjei? Are they actually creating their own meta and going lefty/lefty on all three pairs?

Well, because most of those LD are horrific, and by reallocating money from their forward depth to their blue line it means they've addressed a need without impacting their cap flexibility.

Tuch for Skjei and make a futures offer for Vatanen as a rental. Suddenly you've addressed your biggest weakness while only losing one roster player who was playing on your 3rd line.

if some how we added alex tuch to this roster i would be over the moon.

kid is a monster. and a great kid too. real quality person. coming "home" to play here would be a dream im sure.... :naughty:

adding his size and hands to this powerplay.... good lord. tuch bread and mika plus foxy and tony. drool.

5v5 hes a very strong player who can play a variety of roles from scorer to disrupter to set up guy. has all the tools plus the size we lack. very smart player on the ice. the little things he does often overlooked but hes a high iq kid

imagine adding barron and having tuch both in 2 years along with kakko. we arent small anymore.

skjei, fast and georgie is a nice little package built around winning now for vegas and building for the future for us.

Lindholm is a much better player than Fowler. Much better, not comparable.
Right. Which is why he might want to re-sign there if the team is rebuilding. I’m not arguing his skill level compared to Fowler. I’m saying Fowler can play that role for a rebuilding team.

It was a joke. I don't think firing Ruff is going to change anything. This defense has been shit long before Ruff joined

so they are going to go with 3 G until the deadline

1- hank waives at 50% off. get a 2nd back for next year
2- hank doesnt wavie and Georgiev has to get moved for a young winger

3. Lundqvist retires at the end of the year. Which I think it a possibility, though I don't know what odds I'd give it.

if he retired after this season, NYR would not have cap issues with Hank??, Straka left with 1 year remaining as well but it was a different era.

You'd have to think that Lundqvist would let the team know he was retiring before the end of the year, right? Give himself some sort of farewell tour to end the year?

Most likely yes. It's possible he hasn't made up his mind yet, but will let them know. It's also possible he has, and the team already knows, but they don't want it announced six months out --- for a variety of reasons.

I think that last possibility is pretty distinct.

Eh, that's a slippery slope. We just grouped together a bunch of guys whose games have very little in common, and who scored at their respective junior levels. Additionally Krebs is scoring at nearly a 90 point pace since coming back from injury.

Likewise, there are plenty of examples of players who don't put up earth-shattering numbers at the lower levels who turn out just fine in the NHL. In fact, these boards are debating the departure of one (Kreider), while discussing how to acquire another (Tuch).

I think what we have to be careful of is how we manipulate the use of the word character on these boards to mask our fears and insecurities about drafting. We tend to weaponize it when we don't like a prospect (Andersson), while ignoring it in other instances. The term isn't reserved for depth and support players, we just tend to dwell on it more in those instances.

I think you're proving my point. Those guys are freak athletes. My point is to avoid being enamored by kids who are very mature, high character, and have natural leadership capabilities but aren't speedsters, guys with a high skill level that can skate, or those that are athletically gifted or with high hockey IQs.

IMO guys like Lazar, Krebs, Jost, Bennet, & Lias don't go as high as they do if you just look at the skill, speed, or athleticism factor. You want character, you want guys that are mature, but 18 year old boys mature into men, and I will take the ones with higher skill, speed, and athleticism over that. There's no fear or insecurities around that, it's just a matter of players like that being drafted every year. Every team does it, but that can' be the primary reason where that player is appealing over others.

yes I believe so. next year his cap hit is $8.5 mil but his salary is $5.5 mil. so I believe we would get dinged with a $3 mil penalty (maybe 2 mil if he retires after July 1st and gets paid his bonus). but compared to $8.5 mil cap hit and being forced to trade georgiev, thats not really a big deal.

yes you did

ADA is shaping up to be a premier offensive D which we've needed since Leetch, why are we trading him for diet-Kreider and some picks?

Brian Leetch was good at both ends, its not fair to Tony to compare him to him and not accurate either. I hate to tell you guys but if DeAngelo's ask is too much and they move him you are gonna be really disappointed in the return if you turn down Tuch a 1st and a 2nd.

But that’s not applicable.

One of Jost’s calling cards was his skating and hands - it’s the IQ that people question.

And for every guy you mentioned that didn’t pan out, you can find guys with similar “knocks” who did. So I don’t think there telltale traits to avoid.

I think it only becomes an issue when it’s someone out board doesn’t like, or when it doesn’t pan out.

It’s why Darren Olver’s name came out when this board didn’t like a pick, and why Derek Stepan’s didn’t. Both guys started at remarkably similar places when they were drafted.
