I also really like Alex Tuch and have no issue bringing him in; but call it what you want, if we're dealing TDA (which we shouldn't be) I want a Cody Glass or a comparable player coming back. No further discussion.

Vegas is starting to gear up for a playoff run, but it will be interesting to see how their defense holds up. They are good with Theodore and Schmidt, but beyond those two they don't have a lot of puck movers.

Vegas got a lot from Fleury under a weaker defense, but you have to think about how that holds up in the playoffs. Engylland is most likely on his last year. They had the best pair in the AHL last year with Hague and Whitecloud. Hague is in the NHL, and Whitecloud is still in the AHL and not the same player without Hague.

But their biggest issue is that they have 3 turnstyles in the NHL in McNabb, Merrill & Holden. For a contender, that's a compromising core, and an injury to Theodore or Schmidt would leave them in an unenviable spot.

That being said, they are deep in top 6 caliber talent.

I talked to a couple of folks about a Skjei for Tuch deal making sense for both teams, and both players.

The contracts work out, and both guys would do better in new situations. Tuch is buried deeper in their line-up. He's a luxury for them behind Stone, JAM, MaxPac, Smith. They also have Glass playing the wing, with Stephenson at center.

My thoughts on Tuch, and I posted this while he was still at BC. --> Right Shot Chris Kreider.

You see how effective Fast is next two two rightys in Bread and Strome? Tuch is an upgrade, cost controlled, and in his prime.

Skjei needs a change of scenery, and I think he's been very lackluster the last 2.5 years. The Vegas system will help him settle down. He has all of the tools, and Vegas has a need for a guy that can skate.

What's happening with Vegas is that teams attack McNabb, Merril, & Holden... and those guys end up taking penalties. If Fleury wasn't holding down the fort.... they would be further down the standings.

The question in my mind is timing.

I do not understand the rush to trade a budding 55 or so point defenseman (maybe even 60). IF DeAngelo is to be traded, then it will be for a similar type of forward who is making a similar type of ascent. Tuch, and I like him, is not it.

I’ll go further and say that he should only be moved in a package for a player who you just can’t say no to.

His salary won’t be an issue and yes his political views are less than optimal in my eyes, but it’s right to have them (and receive backlash if he posts something stupid in a public setting.)

As long as the latter doesn’t get in the way of his game, we shouldn’t really care. He isn’t the only one in the locker room who has those views, just the only one who makes them public.

Hate his politics but love everything else about him
Short of walking around with a swastika or a pillow case for a hat, I couldn't care less about the politics of any player. Would he be a better person if he was a Sanders or Warren supporter? Who cares?

Much like America today, whether or not you support Trump, Warren, Sanders, Ralph Nader, Hillary Clinton should make no difference. Views are not right or wrong. Just different.

Krebs is another one of those character picks who doesn't have a discernible top 6 skill set, nor athletic ability to be an asset. News flash- if you can't score in the WHL, you can't score in the NHL. He's also had a foot injury that was pretty bad. That's a bust I would avoid. Every year there are Krebs like players. Lazar, Jost, Bennet, Lias Anderson. Really not the type of asset worth acquiring.

A character guy who has to go all out to be a 4th line player is a type of guy I would want on the team during his 3-5 year peak, but I don't spend a 1st on it, nor do I trade a valuable chip for it.

as much as I'd enjoy that Skjei trade, a LHD of Lindgren-Hajek-Staal might be the worst LHD this team has had in its recent history.

Exactly. It is folly to believe that he is the only Ranger to have such views. And again, who friggin' cares? Being a Sanders or Warren supporter as opposed to a Trump supporter does not magically make you a better person. There is no such thing as a more optimal or less optimal political view. Just how someone believes and sees things. That his political views even come up as a discussion is crazy.

This doesn't affect the Rangers, but one of the most interesting trends around the league is putting younger legs at center, and moving veteran centers on the wing. The Lightning did it with Stamkos & Johnson. They play the wing while Point and Cirelli are in the middle.

It's keeping the older guys fresher with more juice, and Tampa is playing with their pace again. Less skating miles for the older guys. Philly did it with Giroux, and he had a great year last year.

I disagree completely but this isn't the place for that discussion.

No, it is not. But to me, adopting a holier than thou attitude is a mighty high peg to place yourself on. Again, short of a swastika or a pillow case on the head, who cares? Whether or not someone supports Trump, Hillary, Bush, Sanders or Warren makes absolutely not one lick of difference in life.

This.

Vegas is a win now team. Look at their roster and the dough they are committed to for the next few years. There are only a few teams with good defensive chips to play (NJ is one, possibly Martinez from LA)

Interested to see how "all in" they decide to go.

Dude put up a PPG+ on a horrible team and went over a PPG at the U-18.

You're massively underselling his skill set and he's bounced back from his injury pretty well.

Really don't want to part with Tony D, Fox or Trouba.

Though I understand not wanting to pay huge money to 3 RHD. I'd sooner try one of them on the left before trading them bc they're all RHD though.

Really didn't anticipate this "problem" of having an embarrassment of riches at RHD.

I remember before the Vegas expansion draft McPhee while scouting the Rangers mentioned(forgot where and by whom) that he liked Brady and wondered if he had a shot at him.

Amazing choice of words.

ADA looks comfortable each time he is paired with Fox, which has been more frequent recently in offensive zone starts and PP.

I honestly don't know where I put him --- and I think there's some varying opinions around the league as well.

He's not a first line player, but he was essentially an island onto himself for a couple of years.

This year, they actually have some offensive players, and are showing progress for the first time in a while, and the numbers are reflecting that.

But what does that project to at the NHL level? I'm not too sure. He's a a very good playmaker, who knows where the puck is going to be. He's very versatile and never takes a shift off.

On the flip side, he's a guy with a smaller frame who doesn't have a ton of skills that scream elite --- with IQ maybe coming the closest.

But is he a support player? Is he a guy whose smarts are perfect fit to get production out of toolsy, skilled forwards? If he a dynamo, or more of a spark plug? You'll find a variety of opinions if you ask around.
