The idea of trading Panarin at the draft for a haul then signing a player like Rantanen would be like playing 8D chess though Rantanen would likely not want to come to a club that is re-tooling.

Who knows, Panarin did.

Guys will go to where the money is 99% of the time.

If you’re going to spend that money though, you better be sure the guy is going to come through when it matters. We don’t need to replace Panarin with another Panarin.

Given the perceived lack of heart, especially from the 1C DJ Skibidi Zib and the “power forward, heart and soul” Chris… it’s very sad that this man simply no longer CAN give the team anything good.

Actually reminds me of a pet peeve in the military community. You’ll have guys who lost limbs or were killed in actual combat/bombings and guys who spent their entire military career in an air conditioned office in an MOS like finance, who processed payments and did nothing else and then they’ll “honor” some fat master sergeant at a sporting event and everyone stands and cheers and they say shit like “all gave some, some gave all”. Like, sure finance guy still got moved around to different bases and had to pack up and move his family and stuff, and that is a sacrifice, but… there’s basically two classifications of veterans. Ones who DID shit, and ones who didn’t. Lindgren is the “some gave all” category. Our friends got traded. We sacrificed too!

Well said. I still hold out that Lindgren will go on to have a decently long career as a bottom pairing guy who provides heart and shot blocking ability somewhere. I really think eating out of a straw for a couple of weeks right at the start of the season set him back and, like many players, his physical ability needs to be top notch to even be able to ‘get by’ based on his skill level and it’s just not there this season. He’s trying, but it’s not enough.

I want Lindgren gone as much as the next guy but you make a good point about the eating from a straw bit. Goodrow broke his jaw last season and had the same issue. He stunk in the regular season but seemed to get his strength back by the playoffs. He bailed us out a few time in the Florida series obviously.

I mean Rantanen has 101pts including 34 goals in 81 playoff games. Think he has what it takes.

Rantanen would be a perfect fit, especially if Panarin was dealt to backfill depth, say on the back-end.

Just as an example:

Panarin to Dallas for Bischel + 1st + 2nd
Rangers sign Rantanen for 7 years at $12.5m

The Rangers then play Bischel with Fox and have Rantanen centering their 1st line.

I’d slide Zibanejad to RW and just tell him to shoot the f***ing pick. 4 shots a game minimum for him.

Lafreniere-Rantanen-Zibanejad
Cuylle-Trochek-______
Othmann-Chytil-Berard
Edstrom-Carrick-Rempe

Bischel-Fox
Miller-Schneider
_______-_____

He’s also a VERY good 2-way player.

Rantanen is too slow to succeed long-term on NYR. He's at his best with a MacKinnon and Makar one the ice with him. He would turn into the next Tavares contract with the Rangers. Do not want.

I agree, I think that's the play of Drury wants to do (likely a Dolans instruction) a re-tool. I do think Panarin returns a bit more than that from Dallas, especially if the Rangers eat a couple million in retention.

Then you also have the assets from any Kreider, Lindgren, Brogen and to a lesser extent Vesey/Carrick trades.

Edit: I also think Perreault will get a long look at a top 6 RW slot next training camp.

I could see a similar scenario to how Nashville attempted their retool. Gain a bunch of picks and then use UFA to backfill. Not exactly the same, but similar. The Rangers have a core group of young players and some nice pieces they could sell for good assets and to create cap space. This could be done quickly while still keeping so many of those future assets they can bring in via the deadline deals. It’s kind of a ‘best of both worlds’

I'd want a natural center. Let's keep that cap and see if Eichel or McD hit the market.

The government bureaucrats who sat at a desk for forty years saying “people live longer; raise the social security requirement age”.
Give them one week walking alongside a Sanitation truck in the cold rain or those poor guys and girls who load our bags on airplanes in the dead of winter and then see what they have to say about raising the retirement age.

That roster reminded me of the Bills from 2021-2023. Good enough to win meaningful games and make the playoffs, but not enough to push them over the edge.

That core was not good enough. They had multiple opportunities and kept losing for the same reasons. The rebuild was 100% needed.

Shame we never saw it through completely
. Blame Dolan for stepping in. Blame our spectacular ability of wrecking the development of our top-10 picks. I’m not too critical of what happened with Lias. That was a shit draft after the 4th pick which Gorton tried to get. Kravtsov was a shit pick though.

I find it comical how so many casuals on this website seem to know more than the professionals that get paid big bucks to run an organization. We were all skeptical of Zibanejad’s extension. We all see Lindgrens ineptitude. We all hated Goodrow’s contract. Buch trade. Overpaying for MSL. The horrendous McD and JTM trade. Signing Nemeth and burning our 2nd to move him a year later.

The rebuild was the correct move. But, the pros running this organization f***ed it up. Like they always do. It’s no surprise we haven’t won a cup in 3 decades. I swear, I wholeheartedly believe someone like Gag, RB or Machinehead would have more success running this franchise than the halfwits currently employed.
And why was rebuild compromised?
because they did not listen to bern
who was steadfastly vs win now, scorned by many who will remain nameless

My name deserves to be included in that last sentence.

The problem with attaching his broken jaw to his play is that he didn’t have a broken Jaw last year.

This is really just a continuation of what we saw a year ago. He’s just bad now.

I don't think you're getting Rantanen for 12.5M. He apparently wants 14+ from Colorado, and that can be for 8 years, and is before hitting the open market, and he's in the midst of the best season of his career.

Blackwood got 5 years. $5,250,000 AAV. Igor is twice the goalie Blackwood is.

The Blackwood contract is quite large for the small sample size he’s had in Colorado, but even though Shesterkin is indeed more than twice the goalie Blackwood has been thus far, I wouldn’t think twice about putting money on Colorado over NY in the Finals, even before this season’s implosion.

Even with the massive gap between Shesterkin and Blackwood, I take Mackinnon, Makar, Blackwood over Panarin, Fox, Shesterkin.

Which to me is a damn good argument for never building from the net out… which is exactly what we just committed to.

Making no changes and hoping things work out?
They have traded guys. They have benched guys. They have lowered guys minutes. They have changed lines. They have changed Defensive pairings. I do not know that there is some magic button to push at this point in time. Only way out is through hard work and togetherness. This team is not talented overall imo. Too slow. Too soft. Bread and Igor may be able to rally them a bit but they do not have strong talent outside of a handful of guys.

So you bench a player to send a message.
When they come back, do you not give them a shot at showing they’ve heard the message?

I understand people want Mika and Ck separated and on the 4th and 5th lines, but the best way to show they’ve heard the message. Is in fact giving them a Game or two to show it.
