Good luck getting Panarin to waive his no trade

That’s one thing I don’t think is unrealistic. If this continues and we’re out at the TDL, he’s got only one more year on his deal. If Drury says hey, you’re welcome to ride out your deal, but we’re gonna go in a new direction when it’s up, so if you’re open to it, I’ll send you to a contender for your last year and change, I think it’s quite possible he agrees to waive. He gets to sign wherever he wants again the summer after this one, so if he knows he’s not getting another contract in NYC, I’m not sure moving one year early is that much of a difference. Mika, for example, is a totally sifferent situation because he can force us to keep him in NY for several more years. But if you know you’re gonna be moving in 18 months one way or the other, I don’t know that being dealt to a contender for 2 playoff runs is that unappealing. Bread’s a tough one to get a read on, but I definitely feel it’s at least a 50/50 chance he would agree.

I agree. These NTC are put in for the player to have a choice not to eliminate all possibility of a trade. Just because a player has a NTC does not mean he will want to be where he is not wanted.

Plus if he went to Dallas there would be no more NY income taxes. Bread is one of the few players that has lived up to what we hoped for in his deal.

This team right now reminds me of a pitcher that posts his career best season but soon after loses his fastball and is never the same again.

So you bench a player to send a message.
When they come back, do you not give them a shot at showing they’ve heard the message?

I understand people want Mika and Ck separated and on the 4th and 5th lines, but the best way to show they’ve heard the message. Is in fact giving them a Game or two to show it.
Sorry, I meant it more like what did he do in Washington?

I think it is necessary for this team to officially move on as well. Not to mention the package you get in return.

Gets Lafreniere back on LW and opens even more cap space to re-imagine the roster. It's also the clear sign to everyone on the team that expectations are lowered and a reset is taking place.

Maybe that gives Mika the incentive to waive and let's you make a hockey trade with him. Could be the same for Trocheck, but I'd like to keep him since he is a no nonsense player and can bridge the gap to contention while most likely serving as the 3C when they turn the corner.

Blackwood got 5 years. $5,250,000 AAV. Igor is twice the goalie Blackwood is.

Crazy contract. Why does no one want Gibson? I feel like he is a hidden gem once you get him out of Anaheim and in front of structure.

Swayman getting 8+ was the real market mover. Igor at 11.5 is a bargain compared to some of these guys. The league is desperate for goalies and we have the best at 1.5-2.5 mil less than the reported market price.

This is why I sort of concluded that the choices should be Igor or a ELC/late career bargain goalie over paying 6 million for someone to run a .895 year after year

I don't think you're getting Rantanen for 12.5M. He apparently wants 14+ from Colorado, and that can be for 8 years, and is before hitting the open market, and he's in the midst of the best season of his career.
Guys having career year in contract year...especially Euro guys always scared me .....should I be ? Somebody must have that graph in their mailbag ?

Sounds like a guy who knows the next home game he plays for the remainder of the year could be his last at MSG.

Hmmm, maybe i should pick him up for the weekend in my fantasy league. He’s due for one of his big games that he actually shows up for :dunno:

Kreider today didn’t want to talk about how he felt about being scratched last game.
“Just take the lesson,” he said. “Improve, be better, try to be the best version of myself, so to help the team.”

This is like your girlfriend, who you pretty much know cheated on you, trying to get back together.
"Yeah I don't know".

I feel like as a fanbase we spend too much time trying to figure out who to blame for the position we are in, instead of figuring out what the best path forward is.
Most people don't want to face the best way forward because it's the nuclear option.

I think at this point we all realize that this core was NEVER good enough to win a Cup.

Now some of them are regressing hard... others like Bread are just awful in the playoffs.

The youth? not close to what was necessary (ie Kakko & we're back to Laf being meh)

Lavi will get fired because it's easy but it's not the root issue

Drury having Lafreniere and Shesterkin signed already gives him a pretty good idea on his cap allocation next season. Especially if he is contemplating trading some guys at the deadline, specifically referring to Panarin and Kreider whose deals don’t expire at years end.

Moving Trouba and Kakko clearly are a method for him to not only clear the roster a bit while recouping future assets but also relieving cap for next season and beyond. Giving Berard the remainder of the season gives Drury a good idea on weather he can bank on that ELC contract for next year. It would be great if Edstrom could take a step forward and another forward, be it Rempe or Othmann could show the same

There have always been issues in that room. Lundqvist, Zib et al. hated to see Zuccarello go. The "rebuild" left a core of disgruntled vets in place who wanted to compete for the cup and who never had the patience to wait for the kids to grow up. The current meltdown was always in the works because the rebuild never was.

Add a management who was divided with itself. A "rebuild" which wasn't a rebuild, firing Quinn for failing to make the playoffs while "the letter" promising a real rebuild still had wet ink. Signing expensive UFAs to motor the team while the team was still very much a work in progress. Corporate turmoil at every level.

Management have shat the bed in royal fashion. The split in the team has been evident since 2019. The lack of brains at the top, the inability to think one step ahead of the most average and predictable decision possible, is absolutely pathetic.

The NYR is a TED talk in how to f*** things up. Congratulations on that magnificent President's Trophy NYR. Polish that trophy because it truly is the comfort level of this organization.

This season has been the equivalent of Pearl Jam announcing a tour and then Eddie Vedder showing up sounding like (current) Bob Dylan, McCready no longer being able to play any of the solos and them using a drum track because Matt Cameron can’t even hold the sticks anymore.
Yeeesh this hits me hard.

What a nightmare

I didn't see this until today, but pretty much what I had assumed, Dreger said that the Rangers didn't get max value out of Kakko. Plenty of GMs around the league were interested, but had no idea a deal was about to go down this fast

He really needs to do well trading Borgen, Athletic article of trade targets listed him today, and Johnston said he would have plenty of interest. Lebrun guessed Florida and Johnston guessed Vancouver, but was more just guess work on where players would wind up.

If NHL gms didn't know KK was in trade talks they need to hire people to read the Internet. They even mentioned it on NHL shows. This sounds like nonsense imo. What is the going price for a 6th year guy on pace for 11 goals after 13 goals the season before?
