Ah yes trade disgruntled Hank for TRAVIS HAMONIC, who loved the East Coast so much he requested to be traded to Western Canada. He would rather play in Syria than come back here.

At what point does this Hank is ruining the culture and must be dealt thing go from annoying to straight up weird?

Exactly what I was thinking coupled with the fact that Lundqvist probably wants nothing to do with Calgary.

It does border line tin-foil hat wearing that we are even discussing this. My bias against Bishop remains from the days he was just a BFG. I also don't really think there is a trade between the two teams that makes either happy. I was just going under the presumption of a competitive team with a diminutive Norwegian. Any other team i think Hank could potentially consider just makes me miserable. Like if a team has any orange in their jersey, that would be a heretical move by all parties involved.

UFA and trades are two different things

Panarin is better than all you've listed and he wont cost prospects/picks.

Yes, they are different. With a UFA, there is no asset cost (unless you trade for rights or have to trade someone/let them walk to make room), but the cap hit is generally higher than a player you trade for. The UFA is generally older as well, meaning you are likely to get less productive years.

Panarin himself has been available 3 times. First as an undrafted UFA, second in a trade from Chicago, and now as a UFA.

On July 1st, 2007, we signed the 2 best free agents on the market, Gomez and Drury. We also lost Jagr. Later that year, Hossa was traded to Pittsburgh, then signed the following year with Detroit as a UFA, and the year after that with Chicago as a UFA.

Hossa was a much better player than either Gomez or Drury and he was available 3 times in just over 2 years, yet we weren't in a position to make a move for him.

The same thing happened with Kovalchuk. Do you remember half this board saying we should sign him as a UFA the summer after he was traded to NJ? We didn't have the cap space.

It's not just about going after the best players. It's getting the right players at the right time. We aren't far enough into the rebuild to really know what we need.

Columbus is the one place you could see him going?
Or St. Louis, but they have Binnington now. No one else really seems like a fit as a contender that needs a goalie, can absorb his hit, and is a realistic place for Hank to agree on a trade. Maybe add Colorado to the list?

None of them seem likely, IMO.

Would need to make some moves to make it work cap-wise, but what about SJ for Hank? Everyone is assuming EK comes to NY but the other way around is one of the more sensible Hank scenarios on paper.

Bay Area not a bad fit for Hank, his timing lines up with their core, EK, Jones didn’t do himself any favors this year, etc...

Not a bad idea, but Sharks have no assets left. They gave up all their prospects for Karlsson. We would probably have to take back salary too, don’t see it happening.

A Henrik Lundqvist trade proposal.

Calgary is reportedly trying to move Brodie or Hamonic who both have one season remaining on their contracts. The Flames have so many young D and they need to create space on their blue line.
The Rangers retain 50% of the $8.5M cap hit. His combined salary is $12,500,000. $7M this season.

Lundqvist to Calgary for either Brodie or Hamonic. Brodie has a $4.65M cap hit and a $4.8M salary. Hamonic has a $3.857M cap hit and $4.875M salary.

The Rangers try to extract another young asset from Calgary for retaining money. Calgary takes on a $4,250,000 cap hit and will pay Lundqvist $3,500,000 next season and $2,750,00 in the last season of the contract. The Rangers trade Brodie or Hamonic to a third team for younger assets-1st round pick in 2019 or 2020, etc.

The Rangers sign a veteran goalkeeper to a one year contract to share the net with Georgiev. Shesterkin develops in the AHL. The Rangers can ship out the veteran goalkeeper to make room for Shesterkin when he has made the adjustment to the smaller rink.

The Rangers need to sit down with him and figure out a trade destination. The Calgary Flames make sense. They are a team which wants to win a Cup. They were the best team in the west.

The Avs beat the Flames in the 1st round. Mike Smith wasn’t the reason why Calgary lost. Smith is a free agent. Rittich is OK. They don’t have many better options unless they want to sign Varlamov as a free agent. He isn’t their answer.

I like these type of posts but Calgary would be a non-starter. Try Sharks or Avs.

you aren't getting much back for hank at this point...if we made the trade it would be about letting hank go play somewhere that he gets a shot at the cup and we get to play both shesty and georgiev. retaining and taking back salary if its still the same 2 years is a non-issue. the asset we'd get back would likely be a conditional draft pick based on if the other team wins the cup. it won't be a massive haul

This place never seems to change. People love to jump on others for their opinions. It's a forum where people are allowed to voice their ideas, hopes and wishes for a team with which everyone shares a common interest. Yet we chastise people for their perspectives. The mob mentality here is saddening. Even by some reputable and information providing posters. So many posters here have been driven off over the years.

Everyone assumed Henrik would never want to leave New York. Then the article comes out and he's open to conversations with management on their future plans. Maybe he elects for a change, maybe he doesn't. But the certainty that people speak with about him not wanting to live in a place like Alberta is surprising. I don't think anyone here has a personal relationship with him. Yet everyone knows he wouldn't move to Calgary. He isn't getting any younger. With only two more years under contract how many ready made opportunities to compete will there be for him? Most teams with a chance to contend aren't a goalie away. If his goal is to win a cup then why not consider the opportunity, His children are still very young and could make the move for ~1.5 years if he were moved at the TDL without much disruption. Alberta is beautiful. People change their mindset and enjoy different opportunities in their lives. I just left Manhattan for a horse farm in Ontario. My family and friends would've laughed in your face if you told them I'd be living on a farm one day.

I'm addicted to the Rangers and enjoy reading these boards. Just wish people would criticize other opinions less. We're all on the same team.

It's far more likely that Trouba gets traded than it is he signs a 1 year deal in Winnipeg. In that event, the team that trades for him is more likely to sign him to a long term deal rather than for 1 year. So in all, I'd say it's pretty unlikely that he ends up with a 1 year deal. It could certainly happen, but I think the trade and long term deal with his new team is the most likely outcome.

Trouba can only get a 7 year deal if he signs a 1 year deal unless WPG does a Sign and Trade which hasn't happened in this CBA.

To the people that said "Why should trouba sign an 8 year deal now", he can only sign for 1 year and then 7 years, so he may as well get max term if he is able to

We tend to jump on the opinions of posters whose M.O.s we know well, which is understandable. We do the same things to our friends and families.

You open your post with this is a place for people to share their opinions and feelings about the team they all have a common interest in.

But then you follow it up with saying people are speaking in such certainty, chastising others, that Hank won’t want to play in Calgary. How about someone shared their trade proposal on an open forum and people responded to it with their opinion on the suggestion. I was one of those people that does not think at all Hank is going to waive his NMC to go play in Calgary and I gave legitimate reasons as to why. That is great you went from living in NYC to a farm in Ontario. Applaud you for embracing change. But a huge part of Hank’s life is NYC and the extra curricular enjoyment he has when off the ice because of all that is available to him. And furthermore, people’s goals change. Hank is a great competitor but if the choice is to live in Calgary, no matter for how long or short, or finish his career out in NYC without a cup, I would put a lot of money on him choosing NY.

Good post and everyone should start by looking in the mirror.

I get where you're going with this - but, for the sake of clarity, aren't you (or anyone else) doing the exact same thing by proposing Henrik pack up his stuff and go to Western Canada as if you knew it's something he would waive his NMC to do? I don't think you know him personally, either. This isn't an attack, it's an opposing viewpoint.

Do I see Henrik waiving his NMC to go to Calgary? No. Why? Is Calgary "on the cusp" of winning a Cup? They didn't do much to prove that this year. Are they a backup goalie away from winning it all or is Henrik supposed to be the primary guy there? Can he still be? Is that the place he'll forsake the Rangers for in order to pursue a Cup dream? I don't think it is.

If EK signs in SJ then that's a place I could see him going to. Vegas. TB (how funny would that be?). Why? EK/contender. Contender. Hedman/Contender.
