It is a legendary debate.Have you not chimed in on the quite excellent Panarin discussion? Many more points to be made there.
Reading up on the PK Subban situation, they can’t get much in return for him. Top paid D. He had a so-so season. People don’t love him in the room, it seems like. And so forth. Nobody is given up top futures for him and Nashville want to clear cap space so taking back big contracts make it pointless for them.
I wouldn’t mind trading for him. I think he is a good fit for us for many reasons. He is very strong individually on defense. He has flaws connected to the structure, but he executes tremendously well in one on one battles. That helps a young team a lot. I even think he attitude issues actually hurts other vets more than the kids, the vet will get annoyed and feel like he should know better, the kid will recognize what is right and wrong and not be bothered by any shenanigans.
I just think, a young team will thrive if it can get veteran leadership that can ‘bail them out’. And that is Subban’s biggest strength. We have many many really tough games during a season against NYI, NJD, Philly (maybe not right now, but in the past at least), Washington and others. In these type of games Subban is totally fearless and will always step up and try to take the lead and then some. Is he a perfect fit on a really solid and well oiled team? No he isn’t. He isnt disciplined and very team oriented. He will annoy coaches too. You talk about one thing, then he hits the ice and has his own show. But that disciplined super professional isn’t what we need primary. We need someone that can give the team a platform and step in and shelter the kids. Few have a higher capacity to do that than Subban.
Subban has 3 years left. He could easily have another 3 years left in him after that, and from that point he would get paid what he deserves. He obviously don’t want to change teams like underwear, and I am sure he would be willing to re-up with us if there is mutual interest.
You do many players on our team a big favor if you can get someone that you can play in the toughest situations, that will step up and share the pressure. TDA and Fox naturally, they get to play to their strengths in roles that suits them. But also Zibanejad. Shatty and Smith can’t be counted for anything anymore. Kreider will probably be gone sooner rather than later. That leaves Ziba very much alone as a vet on this team. Staal and Hank is there, then nobody. Those two aren’t there that much on the ice. In this context, it’s also perfect with a player with 3 years left. This need might not be there in 3 years. Our need could be something totally else. If you have brought in that vet at a 7 year deal — those 4 past years can feel extremely long. Right?
He wanted to go home to Canada when he did bc his dad was sick.Ah yes trade disgruntled Hank for TRAVIS HAMONIC, who loved the East Coast so much he requested to be traded to Western Canada. He would rather play in Syria than come back here.
At what point does this Hank is ruining the culture and must be dealt thing go from annoying to straight up weird?
A couple of months ago I asked for value on Subban to Rangers on the trade board. Was ridiculed by the usual bullies on this board. Beware.
i think it was another family member. i believe his father passed away when hamonic was a kid.He wanted to go home to Canada when he did bc his dad was sick.
I have less than zero interest in subban...he's a hell of a player and if we weren't rebuilding sure, but giving up MAJOR assets that it would take to acquire a 30 year old dman, I'd have a hard time coming up with a more horrible idea for the rangers. I thought signing Karlsson was a UFA was the worst idea of the offseason and thats just for cash. now we want to give up top prospects and draft pick for a guy thats even older? no thanks

It depends on what it costs. If the feeling is his value is significantly diminished due to his cap hit then adding him helps insulate some of the young guys and they can move him ina couple of years for a higher return
I actually like signing Hall next year because that is the best way to acquire 1st overall picks in the future.
Sign him 1 year, max $Lmao.
But that also means losing follows him.
