I thought Shesty has an out if he gets sent to the AHL

New York Rangers: Igor Shestyorkin denies demanding to play only in NHL

SHEVCHENKO: THEY SAY THEY DO NOT AGREE TO A BILATERAL CONTRACT WITH THE RANGERS AND ARE THREATENING TO STAY IN RUSSIA.
SHESTYORKIN: OH, I ALSO SAW IT ALL AND WAS VERY SURPRISED. EITHER I WAS INCORRECTLY TRANSLATED, OR SOMEONE JUST WROTE A LIE. BUT HOW CAN I DEMAND FROM THE RANGERS TO PLAY ONLY IN THE NHL? I JUST HAVE NO RIGHT TO DO THAT. SO ALL THIS IS NONSENSE.”

SHEVCHENKO: AND IF YOU ARE SENT TO THE HARTFORD IN THE AHL?
SHESTYORKIN: I’LL GO TO HARTFORD. BUT I’M NOT READY TO TALK ABOUT IT AT ALL. GIVE TIME.

We have a top-3 prospect system. How many more futures do you want?

bucket

We need more caps letters @Kupo, sigh.. :skeptic:
There are some NHL teams who desperately need a goalie so we will see if we have 3 goalies before October and a new season.

Anyway it`s a luxery for us to have 3 good goalies so to play some games in AHL is just positive for Shestyorkin development.

Samsonov is in the AHL for the caps

Didn’t vasy go down a bit for tbay ?

I’d hope he’s willing to come up and down w Georgiev also still having an option

I mean if the team isn’t competing and has cap space why not try and gather another asset?

No reason not too. You can always Beleskey them if they can’t crack our lineup.

I think Gorton could package some of the assets he’s accumulated as well.

There are teams that need cap cushion as well as warm bodies. Someone on their ELC like Andersson/Howden or Lindgren/Hajek can fill a roster spot. If we’re giving up a quality prospect and taking a bad contract in return, there’s huge potential there.

I see him as an incredibly humble kid who’s intelligent enough to know what’s going on here.

He said his dream is to play in the NHL. If he needs to spend some time in Hartford until he’s ready for a full time role I think he’ll do so. Lundqvist is his idol. He knows how old Hank is and how many years he has on his contract.

If the Rangers were looking for depth scoring I’d look at Marcus Johansson. Cap dump like Zack Smith would be intriguing if something went back.

Ottawa needs salary too so if they get a Z Smith they could likely send a B Smith back if years lest equal our anyway

Ottawa is more concerned with lower actual salary as compared to their cap hits for the time being. Brendan Smith for Zack Smith + Mike Condon. Loan Condon out to another AHL team.

I'm less worried about Shesty throwing a tantrum about playing in the AHL and more worried about the AHL team being a disaster for the young players again because we have less Pionk/Gilmour/Lettieri/Newbury type guys than the other teams.

This is probably fantasyland. But I had a 3-way trade idea that I think should be considered. It might not be perfect but I think it's in the ballpark of what could work for all 3 teams.

Kreider at 50% retained to TOR
W. Nylander to EDM
EDM 2019 #8OA to NYR, TOR 2020 1st round pick to NYR.

Edmonton gets a very good young player under contract for a very long time.
Toronto gets a year of Kreider at 2.3 mil. Plus they get the cap space they badly need.
Rangers get a chance at Zegras, Newhook, Dorofeyev or Broberg + another late first in what might be a very good 2020 draft.

I don't see Toronto giving up Nylander and a 1st rounder in 2020 for Kreider. I'm a big Kreider fan but I think that trade possibly works if you remove the 2020 first round pick.

They were disappointed in Nylander and cannot likely afford to keep him and resign Marner and the rest of their core. He has to go. If they can add a guy like Kreider at only 2.3 for a year they can keep their team together and get a more effective playoff guy. And they could still resign Kreider who will be playing good hockey during their window. I'm not sure about the 2020 first rounder. But I think they will need to pay if they want the Rangers to retain on Kreider even for 1 year. There's a good chance that first rounder will 24-31. Maybe Edmonton would give them a pick back too. Maybe it's like 2nd rounder in 2020 from EDM going to TO. And Rangers getting TOs first rounder. In any case, there's a deal to be made here I think. Toronto is probably not on Kreider's no trade list. And Edmonton might be. So, this is the most creative way to get that 8 pick using Kreider. Plus I do think Toronto will need to pay for Rangers retaining salary.

So the Leafs give up Nylander and their 2020 1st for a year of Kreider at 50%? Ay caramba.

That's ridiculously in favor of the Rangers. Edmonton might do #8 for Nylander, but that's a bit of a stretch.

That’s nobody’s argument so what’s the point?
That is a counterpoint was the reason not to sign a Panarin or Karlsson, despite how good they are as players.

When people say things like this, the implication is that these players are so good you need to g out and sign them:

Historically
Give me 2 free agents (under 30) better than Erik Karlsson
Name me 3 free agents “ “ better than John tavares
And finally
Name me 5 free agents “ “ better than Artemi Panarin.

Good luck with it

That is an argument. Which is why the counter argument is to look at the future as to their level of performance.

Loaded question. Come on now. Come original with something that passes a couple filters as meaningful
It is not a loaded question. You seem to imply that these players are so good that they need to be signed. That is how I took what you wrote. My rebuttal is to state that I could care less how many better free agents are around or have been around, or how good their performance is. What counts is how they will be performing when this team is ready to compete. Nothing loaded about that.

I did the currency conversion and it is $34,437,000. $300,000,000 NOK. 0.11479 is the conversion rate.

The article requires a subscription to read.

Brooks wrote Zuccarello was looking for a 5 year contract. That’s $6.8M AAV for $34M.

Texas is a no income tax state. $5.95M in Texas is the equivalent of $6.8M in most NHL markets like New York. $30 million over 5 years.

"It's hard when you make a trade and bring a player in four weeks before the playoffs," general manager Jim Nill said Thursday as the Stars cleaned out their lockers, two days after a season-ending, Game 7 overtime loss to St. Louis. "Sometimes they fit like a glove, sometimes they don't. He fit like a glove.

"I think he was a big part of our success," Nill said. "We'd like to keep him here. We'll have to move forward and see what we can do."

Nill said Zuccarello played a key role as the Stars evolved in the playoffs. He said he plans to talk to Zuccarello's representatives at Newport Sports Management within the next two to three weeks.

Mats Zuccarello 'fit like a glove' in Dallas, but will the Stars re-sign the unrestricted free agent?

Nill made those comments on Thursday.

UFA is not a place where 'elite' talent goes. There are a handful, if that, comparable to Panarin. Selanne being one and he performed well past 32.
Every year we see "elites". Not sure that you can combat the likelihood of a decline as players age. The seeming assertion is that these are elite level players and as such they will continue to be elite for a very long time. The reality is that performance tends to take a hit as players get older. That is a fact.

Yes but there are other sport factors too @RangerBoy - it`s important for him that his next NHL team achieve playoffs since he hope to win a cup before he retire. So I won`t be surprised if he and his agent aiming for UFA and the open market. So Rangers need to decide if they are aiming for playoffs next season, or what is their plan with all the Panarin talk recently from MSG Network? And the new signing of Adam Fox which help a lot too about our defense.
