We should be selling for those prices.
This reminds me of the anecdote in the Michael Lewis book 'Liar's Poker' about the head of Solomon Brothers' treasury desk. He came into work one morning looking to buy (borrow) money and kept seeing the price (interest rate) go up. So he decided to reverse course and sell because the prices were too attractive to turn down.

Re: Lindholm. Good Allvin just saved Drury from himself.

Chris Drury quickly realizing the Rangers don’t have the assets required to be buyers at this Deadline
Or that Drury is going to have to settle for specific players / scenarios. Maybe he ponies up if Crosby hits the market and would be willing to waive to NY. Again I doubt it, but you never know. But it is more likely they trade for specific targets that they can afford. Maybe there is a player with a NMC that can control the decision and lower a price. Maybe we settle for middle 6 players that cost mid round picks. Not gona worry about it right now.

Just because one team did do that doesn't mean anyone else will.

We're not far removed from the entire league not being able to beat Blais and a 2nd for Buchnevich with a full year of control despite like 4 months of advertising.

I also tend to think Kuzmenko was a negative asset in the grand scheme of that Lindholm trade. Value is a lot closer in that case.

Kuzmenko is closer to Goodrow than Kakko in value with that contract

If Lindholm was at the top of Drury’s list, I’m curious if the try to make something happen sooner than later for the backup plans

Or they just sit back and let things be

You kind of forget Kuzmenko is 27 and having a horrible year after setting the world on fire as a 26 year old rookie last year.

The dman Hunter whatever is a 3rd rounder lighting the ohl on fire so hardly matters much id equate that to let’s say a zac jones back in the day.

Take the sticker shock off and it’s not as bad as originally looked at. It’s bad if Kuzmenko turns back into a star away from Tocchet but he’s no 22 year old like kakko
See, I think people are just overreacting because it seems like a big trade, but it’s really just salary, a B prospect, and a late first. Kuzmenko shot 27% last year and got overhyped. His teammates hated playing with him, and even EP said he didn’t want him on his line because he’s all over the ice. He’s a flashy, bad systems player that will always be chasing that first year.

Brzustewicz is another one of those small dmen that will light up juniors and get overrated. He’s not like Zelleweger who has the crazy lower body strength and insane agility to just avoid the contact. I’ll bet this gets looked back on as a meh return all-in-all.

Also, stop the Kakko thing. I get it that you’ve made up your mind in him, but don’t push false things like him coming into camp out of shape and Drury actively shopping him. I’d trade him too for the right deal, but let’s at least be honest about it

Just saw the Lindholm deal. Glad we stayed away. As hard as it is to pinpoint Kuzmenkos value I am sure they would have wanted a 1st, 2nd and prospect like Sykora or Berard.

If anyone thinks Drury wouldn't be dumb enough to empty the cupboard for Lindholm, just remember he gave Buchnevich away. He hired Gallant. He gave Zib a lifetime NMC. He gave Goodrow a 6 year deal at a premium cap hit to boot. He gave Nemeth a horrendous deal, then paid 2 2nd rounders in less than 12 months to clear the contract. He's exhausted the cupboard two years and running on rentals, and last year he did it when apparently he and the team didn't even believe in the coach they had.

What you are witnessing is how to ruin a franchise in real time. All hope hinges on a mopey non-1C in Zib, a guy who has sucked in the playoffs every year for us in Panarin, Igor somehow re-finding his form, and whatever shit Drury overpays for at the deadline. This is either going to turn into a lucky, blissful, euphoric experience, or the kind of GMing job that goes in the "How Not to GM 101" handbook. There's no in between.
But how can anybody succeed with dolan looking over your shoulder?

I’d take Strome back in a heartbeat with 50% retained
gtfo
w/w'o retention

Our first should be a no brainer. At best it will be 20th overall, not worth that much to us.
This is part of the prob
a 1x splurge don't make a mountain out of a mole hill

but ongoing as is the case it is a prob
NO

I hate moving Kakko but if you are, Zegras is the type of player you target: equal age and tons of upside as well.
We don't have to move KK for Zeg
Othmann + nice second level Fs, inc Ws Berard, will do the trick

ANA wants high end Ws

Sooo based on the lindholm haul what could kreider return? Im like half serious haha. If we wanna blow this core up and get younger we probably can
Better because he has term.

Kuzmenko has no real value and is there for salary purposes. Imagine a bag of money on skates.

If that’s how the market is going to be then dont even bother trading for anyone. What a f***ing haul for a 3rd line center.

How does a guy who just scored 74 points last season have no value?

This team is certifiably insane to pay these rental prices. It should SELL if prices are that high. Punt on this year. It can be back in this spot given it’s cap space in 2 seasons.

Don’t be morons.

They will be though…. Because Drury is an idiot and is trying to save his job, pressured by the biggest idiot of them all, the owner.
Teams in first place for over 3 months and in a solid playoff position don't sell. You don't punt on a season in a playoff position. Should Florida have punted on last season when they barely made the playoffs? They are going to try to get better at the deadline. To what degree they put the chips in remains to be seen.

i dont understand why Monahan's trade value is presumed to be so high. he was a 4th line nothing player as recently as like last year. he pumped in a bunch of PP goals with a super high shooting percentage and now he's bringing back a ransom? yeah he was really good 6 years ago but on no planet are we giving up Kakko for him.

I guess Drury didn't want or couldn't beat the Vancouver offer. Conroy went back to all of the interested teams. Vancouver had the best offer.

Vancouver and Calgary have a good relationship. Zadorov. Lindholm.

Lindholm was the best rental on the market. He went five weeks before the deadline.

As glad as I am we didn't make the Lindholm trade I don't think Vancouver gave up anything so great except the first. Who knows how Kuzmenko does in Calgary???
Based on the Lindholm deal if we went for a guy like Henrique or a Dowd there is no way we should have to give up a first or a prospect like Berard or Sykora.

Theyve been trying to trade him all year and he was scratched him multiple times.

The league pretty obviously doesn't believe in him. His own team, the literal best team in the league didnt, to the point of dressing AHLers over him.
