Totally. I don’t entertain the trade Trouba flights of fancy because frankly it won’t ever happen, but many a GM would pay that for Trouba which is insane.

He’d have to waive, but…. That would be the smartest thing we could do. It’s not like he’s playing like a 1C anyway. Trocheck is our 1C for all intents and purposes.
Get a massive asset haul and then flip something for Zegras and we are frankly no worse off.

A first is a standard rental price for the top player of the deadline, the 4th is whatever. Two prospects to get 5.5 million off the cap next year for a guy they didn’t want anymore.

Take the sticker shock off and it’s not as bad as originally looked at. It’s bad if Kuzmenko turns back into a star away from Tocchet but he’s no 22 year old like kakko

No team that is at the top of their division is going to sell. This is complaining for the sake of complaining.
I mean if we're going to be realistic, they have 15 games until the deadline? If they go 11-4 they're going to probably gain ground on someone and then they SHOULD add.

Just because one team did do that doesn't mean anyone else will.
We're not far removed from the entire league not being able to beat Blais and a 2nd for Buchnevich with a full year of control despite like 4 months of advertising.
I also tend to think Kuzmenko was a negative asset in the grand scheme of that Lindholm trade. Value is a lot closer in that case.

If they go 11-4 then they should perhaps do the same wise renting I say they should do every year… seconds, thirds, B level prospects maybe. Reinforce some weak spots. If you need to go top 6 hunting for huge prices then you aren’t good enough and you are just throwing away assets.
If they go 11-4 in their next 15 then that means the top line is working and no need to move Kakko for a big fish.
