Actually fact that he got traded the same day sounds like we very much were in the middle of something involving him and just got outbid.

They may have been on it, but it's clear that they weren't so serious to the point that they felt the need to do something stupid.

Brooks may have had the right intel (on them being in on him) and then played telephone and blew it up into a bigger deal than it actually was. Infact after seeing it play out I'm pretty sure thats what ended up happening.

We need to stop looking at players that were already here, i mean last years team never did much, why would we repeat that?
I could see someone having the point of view that this coaching staff could have gotten this team deeper into the playoffs.

But I think this teams big issue is still speed and transition. Look at the games against teams like Vegas / Florida / series last year agains NJ. Need to add lots of speed. Kane/Tarasenko aint it.

To me last year’s team should’ve been in the ECF at minimum. They fell apart after the 2-0 series lead. Does Lavy and his system make a difference this year if in the same situation? My feeling is yes he does. I think Gallant was way too passive. I think Lavy will turn up the heat when the time is right, he generally always has throughout his coaching career.

Maybe it was too much having both Kane and Tarasenko last year. Maybe. I certainly wouldnt hate having the scoring depth right now at ES and on PP2. PP2 is a wasteland.

Center and RWer is what i want to see. Prefer Gourde and a scoring type winger. We’ll see. I dont like the rental D market. I would like to see Hanifan (if extended) or Chychrun. Those are big swings. I dont know if Drury does it. But if Drury is only willing to move one future 1st (i hope that is the case) then I hope its for a Center with at least a contract that is through next season 24-25. And then i take my chances with a depth D Mikkola type at a lesser price.

Vegas and Florida are hardly fast teams.

FWIW, they out played Florida and probably should have won that game.

I’ve yet to see someone who will cost as little and provide as much as Kevin Hayes. He can play wing or center and he has chemistry with Kreider. The Blues traded a 6th for him last offseason. Offer them a 4th or 3rd.
Hayes played more with Oscar Lindberg 5v5 than he did with Kreider during their time here, and Hayes/CK together scored a whopping 15 goals while letting in 12. I'm not convinced that is 'chemistry'.

If it wasn't for the 2 more years at $3.5m then a 4th for Hayes would be ok to bolster the bottom 6, but it kind of feels like a trade to make a trade rather than something that improves the team

I am not completely opposed to Hayes but I would be ensuring other alternatives are not viable or attainable options first.

Well, we looked slow against those teams, so that probably just further cements the point. Not sure where it truly originates - is it breakout/outlet passing? Clearly the transition game rarely works in favor of the Rangers, and 5 on 5 play is constantly an issue. It's not just the forecheck - it starts in the the neutral zone / defensive zone as well.

I don't think they looked slow in those games. If we're being real, they should have beaten Florida and Vegas the second time they played them (the 1st Vegas loss was well deserved. 2nd Vegas game is a W if Igor can make a f***ing save.) Ottawa is faster than both of those teams and they just kicked the shit out of them (they suck, but yeah.)

They have a single line that is any good (they have a legit 1st line, a 1st line that has played poorly and 2 4th lines/sub 4th lines) which is a problem and all of the lines, including the good line, are pretty careless with the puck (hello chances going back the other way complete with a goalie who can't stop pucks this year!)

They don't really create off the cycle as a team and it bothers me as rush attacks more or less end up getting snuffed out by better teams (See: Carolina vs NJ last year.) I think they clearly do a better job getting the puck up ice this year than they have in a while but theres a ton of either 1 and done (with forwards doing a poor job getting back/picking up the right player when they're facing a counter attack) or in the event they DO have sustained zone time, they don't really do a whole lot with it.

They were doing a solid job playing low event hockey for a while and won a bunch of games doing that+ winning the special teams battle. Thats gone out the window over the last month and a half with Igor doing is best impression of being a NJD goalie.

I don't know why they deviated from what made them successful earlier but something similar happened last year too.

The D pairings are also dumb.

Any chance we can get Hanifin for a first and a lesser prospect like Chmelar, Lamb or Laba? I really don't want to trade Berard or Sykora.

This fan's man cave got featured on MSG Network 4 years ago but only briefly - here's a more detailed video that was uploaded to youtube 2 weeks ago:

Good lord, there's gotta be close to 100k worth of stuff in there. It's amazing, but damn. That room has a higher net worth than I do, haha.

Tarasenko scored 3 goals in 7 playoff games, all at even strength. He was part of the solution, not the problem.

The problem was giving all the top RW ice time to Kane instead of Tarasenko and Kakko. Kane really had one good game, and that was it. We were also badly outcoached. Devils threw nothing but rushes and speed at us and Coach Dingus did nothing to try and contain their speed or clog up passing lanes for the neutral zone spring passes the Devils exploited the Rangers with.

As I've said many times, I'd welcome Tarasenko back with open arms. Preferably as part of a blockbuster package for Miller, Goodrow, Jones, Berard, and a pick that also brings in Ridley Greig and Chychrun. That would fix center, RW, and upgrade D all in one. All that would be left to do at that point would be to move Lindgren for a Mikkola type D for the third pair, and better reallocate ice time between Schneider and Trouba (closer to even), and figure out what the heck is wrong with our "all-star" goalie.

Panarin-Trocheck-Laf
Kreider-Greig-Tarasenko
Cuylle-Zibanejad-Kakko (shutdown line)
Vesey-Brodzinski-Wheeler

Gus-Fox
Chychrun-Trouba
???-Schneider

Quick (until Igor figures it out)
Igor

IMO that's a good mix of veterans and integrated youth, and has enough grit/experience without wasting roster spots on completely unproductive players. Pitlick becomes the 13th forward and slots in for Brodz if you need more of a pest, in which case Wheeler can play center on the 4th line.
