Nobody questioned the system the first two months. See, it always comes back to the players. It isn't coaching. They have players that aren't fully committed. You see how they came out like gangbusters in second against Ottawa and decided to get serious and ran them? They can do that to teams. You'd be hard-pressed to find better talent on other teams, but like many have said, you have two guys wearing A's and one has been here ten years and wanted nothing to do with the C, and the other is his best buddy that is very monotone and quiet. They were forced to make Trouba captain because too many of these guys need constant wake up calls.
We went from having 3 solid lines with 3 top centers to having 1 good line, an average line and a bunch of AHL players, is what happened. Losing Chytil really bombed our depth especially since he was holding down a top 6 c spot and Trochek was playing with Cuylle.

This is the roster building thread, sir.
It’s not about roster building so much as “fantasy hockey”. Or “how I’d do this on a computer game and the management are idiots because they don’t do it in real life. Throw in a smattering of childish nicknames to insult good players and yeah this is what we have. But it’s not roster building.

Miller is not better than Hanifin in any world.

That’s not me advocating for a trade. Just comment on the comparison of the two players.

There was talk Hanifin was being dangled when Sutter first took over. And now he's this coveted?

Dowd, Sturm, Kunin, Kuraly types. Sissons, Gourde, Hartman on the higher end.
What do you think the cost of Hartman & Duhaime be? Ideally without subtracting from the nhl line up. Would a 1st & prospect like Robertson get the ball rolling? Filling 2 spots at once does fit what dru did last year.

Goodrow and Nemeth sure but besides that not sure what there’s to complain about

Teams always trade picks for rentals whether we like it or not

The Panarin, Trouba and Kreider extensions/signings were poorly timed regardless of how anyone fells about those players.

You don't embark into a rebuild and then tie up a 4th of your cap on 3 players for term a year and a half later.

Should we be saying Hartman when he just got an extension ?

I’d think a 1st is high though . Duhmaine is a mid round pick tops and Robertson should stay cause I think Jones will be gone

Goligoski is another name from MN as a depth D

What does Miller do well, besides a highlight reel goal every couple of months? He is not scoring and not playing any defense. Now is the time to deal him for a haul while other teams still think he is a future 1D. Thats what the asset management fetishes always want isnt it? Trading guys when they have big value?

The team cant and wont succeed with 2 of Lindgren, Miller or Gus in the top 4. Doesnt matter what we do at forward.

I think Minnesota would want one of our Minny native defenseman Lindgren or Miller in that type of trade. Lindgren a 1st and a Robertson/Berard level prospect for Hartman and Duhaime? Id consider Miller if we could pry Middleton from them. I think he is a perfect fit as Trouba's partner.

Entry prevention (which he can't really take full advantage of because his partner is a free entry so teams just end up using that lane) and puck rushes.

Contrary to popular belief, hes also good at pinching.

He doesnt pinch enough. He has bad reads. He himself doesnt know what he is good at. Why is he constantly trying to get point shots through when his skillset calls for him to take the puck down the wall? They need to switch he and Lindgren's brains in the offensive zone.

Miller with Fox is a good pair because if you start them on offense, theyll never leave the zone. And on D Fox can pass the puck out instead of Miller firing hand grenades up the boards. His development is going backwards. Brady Skjei-esque

The Rangers have a chance to basically acquire the equivalent of Tampa getting McDonagh in Noah Hanifin. And we could get him cheaper than they got McDonagh and at the perfect age. They need to make this move.

No Chychrun. He is a glass cannon. Never been impressed with his game for the small stretches he is uninjured. He is the type of player that would do well somewhere else, like Detroit or Florida. He would fail miserably here.

It would be a good pair because they would not only spend more time in the OZ and actually get shit done, they would also snuff out rush chances before they cross their own blue line.

It's like @Machinehead has said, if you play him with Fox, Fox can pass it out when necessary and Miller can skate it out otherwise. Considering the role/matchups and minutes, being Trouba's partner is probably the hardest job on this team.

Also if you don't like the whole point shot when its not there, that finger should be pointed at Trouba before anyone. Dude does nothing but try to hammer away on pucks that have no chance of getting through.

No they wouldn't. They could be looking for a 1st for each of those players. Kakko is not worth a 1st, and retention costs more.
You’re arguing trade value and you’re literally by yourself against the whole board thinking that to bring these two Ducks players will cost the Ranger the (outrageous imo) package of Kakko, Perreault and a 1st.

Maybe Miller is just Brady Skjei but I think he deserves a prayer with a partner besides Trouba.

We've stuck with Laf and Kakko, and gave them multiple looks throughout the lineup. K'Andre has dealt with more barriers than both of them having to play with Trouba.

Henrique is basically Lindholm, he's actually having the better season. Kakko is pretty close to Kuzmenko I would say. Kuzmenko had an amazing last year, but is not that well established either, is older, and has 1 more year at 5.5mil, bigger risk than Kakko. A first is a first.

So what would be the prospect in our system comparable to Hunter Brzustewicz? Except, it would have to be better than him, because you are also getting Vatrano who is also having a better season than Lindholm and is on a cheap 3.65 deal for one more year.

I'm not saying the Rangers should even consider such a trade, but there are very solid grounds for why the Ducks should be asking for a much bigger package than what Vancouver gave up for Lindholm.

I havent mentioned Trouba once for the record. The guy is having a bad season. He just had a a child. But can we judge Miller based on his own merits instead of acting like everything bad he does is Trouba's fault? It's his 4th year in the league and he still wont throw a hit or skate hard when there's a forechecker on his back?

Im in agreement that the coaching staff should separate them, but Miller needs to be better. We have 1 guy in our top 4 playing at that level, and people are wondering why the system is breaking down? That pair both cause egregious turnovers and then get stuck in the zone for minutes on end because the only guy who has a prayer of making a first pass out is Trouba(sad!). If Miller skated hard every shift, he'd be able to take the puck out himself. He is 6'5 220 and skates like the wind. His lack of effort isnt Trouba's fault. Sorry.

He had a bad month, but you need to take into consideration what he's playing with and what kind of impact that would have on him (or anyone really.)

Fox is all world as far as a defenseman in this league goes. We've seen what playing with a grossly inferior partner has done to him. Miller isn't Fox and he's playing with a guy who is probably worse than Lindgren (which is saying a lot, you know how I feel about RL.)

You can't really judge someone on their own merits when they're basically having to play 2 spots at once. I haven't really seen an effort problem from him outside of that 4th vegas goal which was a cluster f*** on so many ends.

Panarin and Kreider are fine. They are both worth their contracts.

Trouba just sucks and is paid like an elite player. That’s the issue.

I always found it funny when the talking point was "Trouba allowed Miller to play his game" when that is verifiably and categorically false.

Trouba takes more chances than anyone and doesn't have a prayer of getting back. He is poor defending rushes which means Miller pinches less, which isn't good since NHL offensive schemes are heavily reliant on activating the D on attack.

The solution is less or no Trouba. Sorry, go do hospital hits once every three months somewhere else bucko.

Switch up the pairs and we will see I guess. Doesnt change the fact that we need to upgrade the top 4 in some way. I've been saying that Miller should play with Fox since the summer. He has been with Trouba literally his entire career and this is the worst he has looked by far. Look back at my posting history and you'll see that I have always been a big Miller defender. But its time for him to grow up and play better if the plan is to give him an 8 mil extension in a year and a half.
