It’s not an issue. It’s just sh%. They have almost the exact same goal scoring rate at 5v5 as Colorado and Toronto. Two other teams who should score a ton at even strength and haven’t been. Because they’re all shooting like 6.5%.
Corner work and the area in the middle where you might get hit......that is what we need more of and shots at the net and guys chasing pucks HARD ! A step late is no good....

I doubt GG would shake up the tandems at this point but if Krav was healthy I would try him with CK-Z. See if he can be the playmaker or turn into Buch light on that line then move down KK with Troch & Panarin. A guy who can setup plays but also hangs on to the puck. Move Laf down with Chytil & maybe Gaut or Blais. Let Laf try and dictate his own line and control play and then Blais-Good-V/Reeves. Send Carpenter to the minors.

So Kakko is the best player on the team. And the idea is to move him down?

Just like last year, I think the major issue is the transition game. It doesn't matter whether we are playing against a hard forecheck or a trap- getting through the neutral zone cleanly and maintaining possession has been atrocious. Some of our forwards don't even look like they are capable of receiving a puck from the defensive zone on their backhand while skating.

Under AV the Rangers had some success using their speed to fly the zone- even though this put a ton of pressure on our defensemen and gave up a lot of odd man rushes.

The NYR defense need to do a better job of being mobile and taking space in the neutral zone for themselves when the forwards are properly covered. This is inherently risky and can lead to 2 on 1s against, but savvy forwards can identify when a defenseman is jumping into the rush to re-balance the numbers and withdraw- it isn't adding a fourth player to the rush that necessarily makes the difference so much as it is applying pressure in a different spot and taking the space where it is available. Our forwards are by and large pretty defensively aware, so I'd like to see Miller, Jones, Fox, Trouba lug the puck a little more frequently. The offense has not been there from our defenseman at the necessary levels so far.

Honestly, my biggest takeaway from this season so far is that they’ve taken last year’s success/playoff experiences and now EXPECT to win without the urgency they displayed last year. That’s not a roster problem, that’s a culture problem and this thing can go sideways pretty quickly.

That’s almost exactly what I was about to post. Really seems like a lot of this team came in sniffing their own farts riding way too high on last spring’s success.

I’m encouraged that at even strength they are definitely overall playing much much better than they were a year ago even with the clear urgency / consistency issues. Can’t dig themselves too deep a hole but still well in the realm of possibility that they really pick up the pace in a month or two and get rolling.

The Rangers aren't trading Kravtsov at this point. He's almost worthless, he hasn't had a chance to get his wheels going at all, and he's a cheap forward that's exactly the type of contract the Rangers need.

This is a pipe dream.
May be true enough. I think you are overestimating what I would take back, though. At this point I'll do both of them for Colin Blackwell. With or without retention. Haha

Kakko and Laf have undeniable chemistry. they need to be playing on Zibanejads wings. move Krieder to the 3rd line with Chytil, put Vesey with Panarin and Trocheck. i also hate Goodrow on the 3rd line, maybe put Blais with Kreider and Chytil?
I like this line of thinking, except I'd go a step further. I'd reunite the Kid Line and make them the #1 line for a game and see how it goes. Let Zibby force his way into the spot between Kakko and Laf.

If you're going to send a message to the vets that they need to get their asses in gear, then send the f*cking message.

My apologies if you guys are sick of getting bombarded with proposals for Laf and Kakko, but just out of curiosity what if anything would it take to snag one or if I’m being completely delusional both of them? Specifically from the Avs.

Gallant demoting Kreider was a step in the right direction... that he pretty much un did by throwing him out there to start OT.

If you want to send a message to this group, scratch him for tomorrow's game. Not only will it probably get Kreider going, it sends a message that no one is safe and that this level of play won't be tolerated.

Not sure what coaching can do, they have like 7 forwards who are 4th liners or depth, Five of which play every game.

Not that I think coaching has been good, yet pretty much every coach in the NHL does dumb stuff, so it's not like much would really change, it would just be different dumb stuff.

I've been saying we have become the leafs with such a top heavy roster and so much cap invested in only a few players. The difference is their guys are younger, ours are mostly in or entering their 30s.

Cap mess in NYR

Would put Laf on the left, otherwise, whatever. Need to do something different. Guys are a little too comfortable going through the motions.
