Ya know things are bleak when I'm clamoring for Vitali Bustov to light a fire for this team.

My friends are taking bets he doesn't make it to period 3. One even going specific. Claims Cal Clutterbuck ends his season with a check his little sister would get up from.

The other thinks LTIR with a puck off the right heel in warmups, then the drama filled soccer fall, leg grasp, and obligatory yellow card.

What about this guy?
Today’s Media Availability minus The Chosen Frozen One:

Slight cracks in the Gallant foundation, but when it comes to Kreider, I'm with Gallant. Kreider has been terrible all season. He should've been demoted games ago.

I do wonder if Kreider was/is bitter about not being named C. He's been here the longest, he seems to have some camaraderie with everyone on the team...IDK.

Thinking the same thing. Sulking because wasn’t given the “C” (?)

I’d be bitter they chose a braindead dman who talks like his mouth is full of peanutbutter and is even dumber off the ice than he is on it over me too.

I'm willing to give Panarin/Mika/Kakko a shot but I'm doubtful of their success together. My only hope is that Kakko is confident enough to not just be traffic cone in front of the net like most of the RWs do when they play with Panarin and can still play his own game. I'd still rather just throw Kreider on that RW. Keep the vets happy and get the kid line or the kid line with Trocheck as the center for the second line.

Prediction
Kk goes from hero to zero playing on this line
Kk needs to be the man
Now he's playing with the only forwards better than him
And pan is even more of a puck hog than Kk
And these 2 dont cycle
Let pan and zib play 2 player hockey, throw a vesey or goody or blais or kravy with them
Kk needs to be the main puck holder on his line
My pref
PZKra
Kid line
Krei Tro Ves/goody

At the time I liked that Halak signing (and he played well tonight!) but makes me wonder if
Why can't Vesey play right wing?
at this point it's gotta be a troll job

I like those lines actually. We'll see how they play out but on paper they make sense.
They aren't bad just need a speedster for that 4th line to retrieve or hassle the d in order to get some forecheck. The 4th line has to contribute some damn goals

Well it needs to equalize fast.
Agreed and those numbers probably paint a rosier picture than the eye test has lately but to me they're pretty accurate. The team is good, they're not losing because they're a bad team or not good on paper. They're beating themselves, finding ways to lose and playing sloppy and mentally not fully there. A bit discombobulated, some injuries, some players not firing on all cylinders and a team that obviously came out of the gate playing well and decided after a handful of games "okay, when do the playoffs start?"

I think a game or two where everything goes right for them to get some confidence and good vibes going will snap them back into the groove. The Islanders coming to MSG followed by a pretty road heavy schedule should be the perfect opportunity for the equalizing to happen, let's hope it does soon before they lose too much ground.

My only issue is Vesey on that line with Trocheck and Lafreniere. I wonder if Gauthier didn't get hurt that he'd be in that spot. Feel like it leaves a lot to be desired. Chytil-Kreider has worked in the past.

Just like last year, I think the major issue is the transition game. It doesn't matter whether we are playing against a hard forecheck or a trap- getting through the neutral zone cleanly and maintaining possession has been atrocious. Some of our forwards don't even look like they are capable of receiving a puck from the defensive zone on their backhand while skating.

Under AV the Rangers had some success using their speed to fly the zone- even though this put a ton of pressure on our defensemen and gave up a lot of odd man rushes.

The NYR defense need to do a better job of being mobile and taking space in the neutral zone for themselves when the forwards are properly covered. This is inherently risky and can lead to 2 on 1s against, but savvy forwards can identify when a defenseman is jumping into the rush to re-balance the numbers and withdraw- it isn't adding a fourth player to the rush that necessarily makes the difference so much as it is applying pressure in a different spot and taking the space where it is available. Our forwards are by and large pretty defensively aware, so I'd like to see Miller, Jones, Fox, Trouba lug the puck a little more frequently. The offense has not been there from our defenseman at the necessary levels so far.
this is what happens when you rely on the stretch pass in the year 2022.

if you want to have a good transition game literally just look at the penguins. two guys going full speed and dump it in when they get to the opposing teams blue line, and get in behind the defense hard and fast, and outnumber them.

instead we do a stretch pass with a guy standing on the blue line and the other guy know not knowing he has to chase. this = lost possession

Our Soft Zone-Man defense is bad. Horrible net front defense.
Our Neutral Zone play is bad. We give up all the space, back to our dots.
Our Backchecking is bad.
Our Transition is bad. There is no transition unless Fox or Panarin carry it up.
Our Offensive gameplan is bad. Circles on the perimeter until turnover.
We can't pass or shoot. Shoot into the shin pads of the defender or logo snipe. Passing... can't make them consecutive/cleanly without bumbling and fumbling the puck.

Besides that, we're doing good.
wait....so this is a.....good hockey team!
