Also funny how “Tax Haven Florida” which is apparently such a huge deal is going to pay a goalie 10M/year and is likely out on the best skater around. Goes to show you it’s really not something the players care much about.

They are grooming Sorokin which makes sense. Lehner wants stability and a 3-5 year deal depending on the AAV. Islanders aren't ready to commit to those terms with Sorokin coming over soon. Varlamov presumably will get a 1-2 year deal stepping back into a 1A/1B role.

I wouldn’t presume. Varlamov isn’t signing that deal.

I'd love to have panarin but like I said he would get over 12m aav and he is not worth that price tag. If he wants that kind of money go cash strap a different team with their cap. The cap is likely to be set for a few years at only slightly higher than 83m. To those who say a few million isnt that big of a deal in order to sign him, 2 to 3 million here and there for a couple of star players and it easily adds up and quickly. That's the difference from being the leafs who cant get defensive help bc to much money in their forwards and the Panthers who if they signed him would have 3 million to fill 4 roster spots... that would start for them. I'm more than happy staying the course, sign a few short 1 year deals to capable players like Ennis and Boyle. Both players that can be dealt at the deadline with names and whoever else to get more draft capital in a deep draft. Be in the lottery again, get a top 5 pick. Have boat loads of talented young players and prospects with a lot of cap space to then trade some of those prospects and a pick or two in 2021 to get a top player who a team cant sign bc they are in cap hell.

I’ve said this all along but if the money is relatively similar there’s no way any high profile ufa goes to fla or the islanders if the Rangers are in it. Would be absurd. Laughable by every other player in the league.
