I love watching these other teams, sometimes for years, trying to fix their defense, while Gorton just scooped up Trouba.

Gorton once signed Smith and Shattenkirk to fix the Rangers defense. Trouba is here not beacuse of Gorton but because of Trouba.

A straight up top pairing D for a 7th D on his best nights.

Ranger fans only seem to see the impact of a defensemen if they are a 4th forward.

Also kakko on the first line is a recipe for disaster in his first season. Keep buch there and move kakko to 3rd line.

As I've said many times, I'm all for aiming for a top 5 pick this year too.

I think @Kovalev27 is right when he says that the Rangers are probably his first choice. If he really wanted to be an Islander, we'd know by now, that much is true.

Whether or not the FO caves to bridge the gap between what they have in mind and what the Isles are throwing his way is a whole other matter. Theres been a ton of gamesmanship on both ends (for instance, I never bought that the Rangers limit to Panarin was 11.25 or what ever Brooks said, it's probably closer to 12, whether or not they've offered that yet, I don't know, probably not.)

Freidman has been operating on the idea that they won't go there (Dreger has as well, though he's been pretty silent on this matter lately.) I hope they won't but suspect that they will.

If the Islanders are going to get him, drive up that price as much as possible.

Also if we trade krieder and sign Lee we are replacing him with a similar player at a similar price of around 7m aav and they are the same age. Let Lee sign else where for that price.

Stick to the pla. Sign 1 year stop gaps in fillipula, Boyle, or Ennis. Trade them and names at the deadline to get more draft picks. Finish and get in top 5 for the lottery. Then trade some of our prospects to get our big time player who is due for a big raise from a team that cant afford him bc they spent 12m on panarin lol

I'm sorry, I just dont see how this team is worse than last year. Hayes had a good year for himself but it was nothing amazing. Zucc was horrendous until January. Pionk and Shattenkirk being removed, would be addition by subtraction, let alone replacing them with superior talent. Kakko and Kravtsov add a dumb amount of talent to the team. Not having Vesey, Names, Fast etc in your top6 is a massive improvement. Chytil, Lias, Lemiuex, ADA and Howden a year older and stronger.

Well first, if you discard loser points, the Rangers could not get worse than being the worst.

I am enjoying it nonetheless.

Edit: FYI I don’t think our defense is fixed, but it still feels good to add that type of player. The Leafs have been overflowing with trade assets and have been trying to fill that role since at least 2016.

I’m salty bc I wanted that pick. I was actually pretty sure we were able gonna get 1 out of the conditions. I care more about this team than any one player’s feelings. I’m sure in a day or 2 I’ll get over it and move on. Maybe I overreacted since I was so certain he was going to re up there considering the fit was so good. You can take it down a few levels though.
