Panarin aside, if the Islanders sign Varmalov and flush Lehner, that’s just damn stupid. They will regret that.

They are grooming Sorokin which makes sense. Lehner wants stability and a 3-5 year deal depending on the AAV. Islanders aren't ready to commit to those terms with Sorokin coming over soon. Varlamov presumably will get a 1-2 year deal stepping back into a 1A/1B role.

I'd love to have panarin but like I said he would get over 12m aav and he is not worth that price tag. If he wants that kind of money go cash strap a different team with their cap. The cap is likely to be set for a few years at only slightly higher than 83m. To those who say a few million isnt that big of a deal in order to sign him, 2 to 3 million here and there for a couple of star players and it easily adds up and quickly. That's the difference from being the leafs who cant get defensive help bc to much money in their forwards and the Panthers who if they signed him would have 3 million to fill 4 roster spots... that would start for them. I'm more than happy staying the course, sign a few short 1 year deals to capable players like Ennis and Boyle. Both players that can be dealt at the deadline with names and whoever else to get more draft capital in a deep draft. Be in the lottery again, get a top 5 pick. Have boat loads of talented young players and prospects with a lot of cap space to then trade some of those prospects and a pick or two in 2021 to get a top player who a team cant sign bc they are in cap hell.

It'd be polite to tell the other GMs that they're out ASAP regardless of the time of day. Word would get out fast if that call is being made to NYI, NYR, FLA, COL.

The Avs make a lot of sense for Panarin at a high term / $ for a lot of reasons. They are a competitor right now and his best years will coincide with theirs. Their PP would be insane.

Again, if this was 2021 and Henrik's $8M wasn't there, and Kappo / Krav were killing it, and we were the 7th seed...I'd be all in going for it. It doesn't make any sense now.

Hall is a FA next year. But I'm not sure who is a free agent then, but that's when you start looking at cap strapped teams with a player that has a year left and wants a big contract and you trade for him and then sign him.. ex trouba deal
