They can't give him the 8th year beyond that point. If he was willing to sign there, he would have done so already.
after midnight he can only get 7 years from anyone...prior to midnight columbus can give him an 8th year.
Bobby mac has them in as does portzline serevelli and this other Columbus beat reporter.

8 year extension off the table once it's 00:00:01 July 1st. If they can't get it done at 8 years $96M-$100M, they're not getting it done at 7 years $84M-$88M

I was wondering if he might be a guy the Rangers look at as a Kreider replacement. Not quite as prolific of a scorer, but brings something similar to the top-six and would likely be considerably cheaper.

When there’s a question of a player, no matter how skilled, fitting a team both in timing and position and that player is UFA and there are half a dozen teams in on him... the best bet is to walk away.
A huge mistake is the only outcome. Term. Money. For what? A talented player yes... but not the center we desperately need. Not the prime, elite #1 D. A VERY skilled winger.
