Going to take a guess and say the sticking point for the Rangers isn't money but term. Wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that the Rangers and Islanders had very similar money on the table, perhaps the Rangers with even a slightly higher AAV, but the Rangers weren't willing to go more than 5 years.

I highly doubt any team ever involved with him was offering less than 7 years. That would be a complete deal breaker almost immediately.

Agree. Term is a big deal for us now, as it should be.

If Florida is out on Panarin (by most observations) then it’s the Islanders and the Rangers. Yes, I can see the agent trying to jack up the price to the Rangers. And I can see the Rangers listening...to a point. I grew up on Long Island and it’s a nice place to live but not for a 27 year old with money and his model aspiring fiancé. The agent is doing his job.

The agent also represents Kravtsov.

At the end of the day, if the Rangers took their best shot and didn’t get the player, I’ll live with that.
Any thought on plan B?

I just find it strange we are still in the discussion here. All reporting indicates we are putting forth the lowest offer of the teams in play. The only explanation for being in the running is that NYR is Panarin’s preferred destination putting money aside. Does that seem like a fair sentiment?

I think the more likely scenario is that the media wants Rangers fans to keep clicking on July 1 instead of giving up.

Yes. The idea that the Rangers are his preference is long standing.

Honestly I don't know what to believe anymore but it really sounds like we're out of it for whatever reason.

Maybe its term, but it sounds like the money that was offered (if Brooks is correct) is in the ball park.

If the Isles are indeed offering 12 or 12+ then yeah we're out but if 11.35 was our supposed "limit", I have a tough time seeing the FO not matching an Islander deal if its around 11.5.

The fact that he's basically the lone big fish who hasn't been confirmed by anyone gives me some pause.

$8 mil for matt duchene is a good deal compared to what was rumored for him...but jesus is that kyle turris contract bad. it was bad when he was the 2C now he's the 3C

Going to just have to see tomorrow. The reports tonight remain all over the place. One thing they do all mention is the Islander interest but the money, teams, and such changes on a reporter to reporter basis. It feels a lot like the agent trying to put pressure on teams to increase their offers through the media.

Ya I feel like most of the information throughout the Panarin saga has been questionable at best

Fucc Zucc and yes I am salty. Hope he never sees playoff hockey again and is bought out in 3 years.
Zucc gave it his all for us for years and took team friendly contracts... why can't he go out and get himself a nice payday that he's so clearly earned and deserves? Some of y'all just complain for the sake of complaining. Oh boo hoo we don't get a first round pick, blame the conditional on the trade, not Zucc.

Jim Ross: Offer sheet? Who tha hell is he going to sign with tha-

*Sussudio by Phil Collins starts playing*

Jim Ross: KING. KING. BAH GAWD KING. THAT'S JIMMY VESEY'S MUSIC

King: (Frantic screeching noises)
Good effort I guess. Study some more memes and get back to us.

Look, I'm with you. The guy deserves to be paid.
But on the other hand, if he had taken less with a more competitive team, his summers would be starting a lot later than they will be with him playing on perennial playoff bubble team Minnesota. If he would have taken one less year he could have been paid a nice salary and competed on a good team.

Totally agree with this.

Meh oh well. He should go get paid if he can. I’m just glad if he’s really going to Minnesota that at least he didn’t sign with a rival of ours. Go collect your paychecks in Minny.

He chose the money over winning, not the first player to do it and won't be the last. Ultimately his decision though and to see Ranger fans bashing and hating on him for it is just sad. Was a fan favorite not even a year ago.

Yeah but all arrows are pointing to the Islanders.
Pretty wild to me that a top free agent would sign with the Islanders over the Rangers, even if they’re offering slightly more money. Even removing our rivalry, if you look at it objectively: they’re a bottom of the league attendance team, split time between two arenas one of which sucks for hockey and they don’t even know where they will be playing by the end of his contract.
