It's just that the more you think about it, the Rangers best 3 forward prospects (Kakko, Kravtsov, Chytil) are all looking very likely to be wingers at the NHL level. Buchnevich may stick around. Should we be going all-in on our one top UFA signing that we'll have space for with another winger?

Let's see what we need in 2 years time.

Been saying this for a while now.

Georges Laraque is 3 for 4 so far in this tweet. Just waiting to see if Montreal offer sheets someone.

This.

For example, I think Connor McDavid is going to be available next summer or two years from now. I'd rather spend our chips and assets on him. Signing Panarin would make this very difficult.

The only reason I’d consider giving Panarin $11.5m right now is that there isn’t a talent like him slated to hit the free agent market until 2022.

I think the Rangers have talent to flip in a Trouba-like scenario if a young center is priced out elsewhere.

I wouldn't mind Panarin at all, if it was on our terms. Who wouldn't want to root for him in Blue?

If he wants to sign with us, it will be on Gorton's terms. Likely 11-11.5 per. NYC. MSG. Fellow Russians. A boat load of money in two years. If he wants to pass on the Rangers for the Isles or Panthers or Blue Jackets, then so be it. Later dude.

We just continue about our business and we'll be just fine without him.

I keep this in the back of my mind. He WILL get fed up there and when he does, there will be few teams that will have the assets and cap space or even the cajones to complete a deal of that magnitude. We will be one of those teams.

The three he got where already out there when he tweeted that, no?

Not sure. It says 3 hours ago at the top of the tweet. Things have been happening so fast I can't keep track of when stuff's breaking.

The MTL offer sheet part is the most interesting to me, if it is ture.

Yah? that kind of sounds like a spectacular reason, even if it's your only reason.

Yeah, but at the same time quality players allllwayyyss become available via trade.

It literally happens every year for what ever reason (My team sucks, my owner sucks, My city sucks, my wife wants to be a doctor in America, My teammates girlfriend is crazy, etc.)

Keep the system stocked so we can acquire 1 or 2 of those guys with out killing our farm.

"The other major news Sunday night was The Athletic’s Aaron Portzline reporting Columbus made a massive last-second offer to Artemi Panarin. It indicated somewhere around eight years and $96-$100 million in total. It’s an excellent, last-second, Aaron Rodgers “Miracle in Motown” Hail Mary attempt since it is at least $12 million more than any other team is offering.

The problem is Panarin’s known this kind of money was available from the Blue Jackets for at least a year. So, unless his position on staying changes in the last hours before 12 p.m. ET July 1, it’s unlikely. The expected outcome is Panarin and Semyon Varlamov to the Islanders (Panarin at seven years, between $11-12 million)."

Just what exactly does Marc Bergevin have up his sleeve? - Sportsnet.ca

What were/are we offering?

Adam Fox
Trouba
Kakko

This offseason has been fantastic. There are almost no other teams in this league that have added these caliber of players/prospects this offseason. Good things are ahead for this team. Not yet, but when they are, people are gonna look back on these times with fond memories and cries of "thank god we did things the way we did them."

Going to take a guess and say the sticking point for the Rangers isn't money but term. Wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that the Rangers and Islanders had very similar money on the table, perhaps the Rangers with even a slightly higher AAV, but the Rangers weren't willing to go more than 5 years.
