Those are arbitrary 'age restrictions' from the HF board. The age timeline would theoretically be the same. Kreider 29-34. Panarin would be 28-34.

I dont worry about age as much until 35 +. I could also see Kreider take a Guerin type of trajectory in his career. His best/most productive hockey may still be in front of him

That’s the best you can hope for for Kreider during the second half of his career, but I wouldn’t put money on that. A lot of people seem to think that Kreider is going to remain a useful player after he loses a step, but all of his other tools are subpar in my opinion. Bill Guerin was a near elite goal scorer with a big time shot, plus the big body.

I like the player though and would be ok with signing him longish term. He’s not old yet.

Fun with jersey numbers:

During the 2005 lockout, I wanted to get a Rangers jersey and NHL.com was having a 50% off sale. They didn't have a lot of obvious picks at the time, I really liked Fedor Tyutin. They had just settled how his name would be spelled (the Rangers had used Tutin and Tjutin before on their website) and he had a good 20 or so games late in the season wearing #51. Then the next training camp he wore #55 just to screw with me, before taking #51 back when the season started. It turned out to not be a jersey that withstood the test of time anyways.

This story. Wow.

I believe it'll be the opening lines for his retirement speech and eulogy.

Seriously, its as if some have never seen Kreider skating around the circles in his own end waiting for the play rather initiating or getting back to the bench and staring at replays on an iPad. The epitome of frustration... watching a player with such potential be inconsistent to the point of vanishing for games on end. Yet, his best hockey could very well be in front of him? At 28, you would think this is it. I wouldn't offer Kreider anything starting with a 6 or higher regardless of length.

Quite the opposite, my question was probably dumb, just trying to understand why many seem to feel the only two options for Kreider is to trade soon or or extend him soon?
I understood the question completely, just blanked on what the relevant details were.

But I think Gorton said something about how he didn't like how the Hayes/Zuccarello situations dragged on with the uncertainty, so we think he'd prefer to get this one resolved sooner.

Brooks is still holding out hope the Rangers give Kreider ~$50M over the next 7 years. We are so lucky the Flyers and AV stepped up to give Hayes $50M or we would be reading the Rangers should bring Hayes back this entire week.

The Rangers have barely talked to Keator about a new contract. They are running out of excuses. Gorton said he wanted to wait until they hired a new president. Like the new president isn’t going to allow Gorton to sign or trade Kreider. JD has been on the job for nearly 6 weeks. Gorton said he wanted to discuss the contract with Keator before going to Vancouver. The draft has come and gone. After the season, Gorton said we have plenty of time to make decisions like Kreider. The season ended nearly 3 months ago.

The tea leaves say Kreider is being traded eventually. Once Hayes signed the one year contract last summer, you knew the Rangers were eventually going to trade him. Brooks had the Rangers signing him right before the deadline or they work out a side deal with Hayes for him to return. They trade him at the deadline and re-sign him on July 1.

Gorton has talked to both Overhardt and Trouba about Trouba’s contract. The Rangers are comfortable with the asking price. A few people here said the Rangers want to wait and see how much money they have before trying to sign Kreider but that’s not the Rangers approach with Trouba. The Rangers have $16M-$17M in cap space and Trouba is getting $8M of that space.

The new excuse is the Rangers want see what Panarin does before making a decision on Kreider.

The Rangers would be crazy to give Kreider a huge extension and ****ing morons to pay Panarin. Let him enjoy the warm Florida sun all year.

AV called Hayes 2x to convince him to sign with the Flyers. Thanks AV.

The Flyers don’t have the space to pay Zuccarello which is a constant thing you hear.

There have been rumours about trading Gostisbehere...(Or maybe it is just speculations?)

I tried to look for Gorton, anyone within Rangers management saying anything like that, yet have come up empty, if anyone has the link?

While I believe the Rangers probably would want to have it resolved sooner, if the options are, to extend to something they don't want, or trade for something that does not match what they are looking for, why would the keep non extended not be the best option out of the those?

Which is why I was wondering if there was some dates which excluded them from extending him past July 1st, as maybe I was missing some key info.

1st trade proposal post draft...................Jost and Kaut for Krieder?

Dont like to trade an impact player like Kreider for question marks. Better add to Kreider and see if there is a possibility of an upgrade. (Or sign Panarin). If not resign him.

I feel ya. I’m dying to get a Kakko 24 but I’m afraid he’s gonna change his number because bern would start a protest outside MSG for Boo.

Would make sense to release the 3rd jerseys when you have an official number for kakko. Still think it may be 34 and not 24 but who knows. 45 is disgusting though

Let’s not forget last summer when I was crying we hadn’t made any moves at the draft and everyone told me their was plenty of time all summer long . Time runs out very quickly in a capped league. Once we get past the first few days of July teams are set big money is spent and that’s it.

Jeff has a lot of work to do this week and a lot of it should have been done by now. I’m floored he didn’t get anything done last weekend. I agree I don’t believe another firesale at the deadline is in the best interest of the guys here. Vesey Namestnikov should not be here at this point. Shattenkirk needs to be gone. Can it be anymore odd with the trouba and Fox deals done? Give him a chance to be a ufa come July 1 if you can’t move him. Those deals made it impossible to bring him back.
I trust Gorton. He’s doing a great job. He’s not going to make a deal unless it benefits the Rangers. Patience. We are finally in good hands.

And we got a solid return for both players.

We did?

The zucc return is garbage we have to pray he stays in Dallas which is looking further and further away at this time.

The Hayes return turned out well because a miracle happened and the pick fell to 20. But by no means were those good returns.

Kreider for a guy like Lemieux and a 27 thru 31 pick is nothing I’d want to move him for.

[TBODY] [/TBODY]

The Ranger prospects at camp are looking rather tall and thin.

I'm a fan a CK , but I'm not opposed to moving him in the right deal.

A late first and prospect at the deadline doesn't seem like a great return.

CK should have put up 35-40g last year.
I didn't think AV was a great coach for CK. His game changed after taking out Price in that series. He seems hesitant.

Not sure about Quinn either, not impressed.

That said, it makes more sense to me to resign CK at 6.5m than AP for 11m.

Kreider is a tank. You cant underestimate the physical impact he brings, especially to the net. And yes it will affect his longevity.

If the rangers are spending 11m I'd rather it be on a real #1 center.
