The aftermath of draft fever.

Last year Kaut would've been seen as a very nice return, and a few days ago people wouldn't have complained about the 16th pick being the centerpiece.

Now Kaut is significantly undervalued, and we want multiple high-end pieces.

I will caution that anyone expecting a deal like Kaut + a 2020 first is likely to be disappointed. Fair warning.
That would be a better return than what Ottawa got for Stone.

That would be some ridiculous shit.

Nylander was mentioned earlier. I am so so about him and it would take Brady and Kreider but it does quicken things.

Here’s more context to the Lebrun article:

In fact, it’s believed Plante and Sharks GM Doug Wilson spoke again on Sunday afternoon, so the dialogue remains open which is at least good even if it may or may not lead to a resolution.

It’s really all wide-open right now as far as how it plays out between now and next Monday’s opening of free agency.

Nobody involved would comment on which teams have shown the most interest in Pavelski but other leagues sources suggest he may visit Dallas and Tampa this week.
The Stars would be a nice fit, a team on the rise that had a strong season, and has enough cap space for Pavelski with Jason Spezza gone and pending UFA Mats Zuccarello still unsigned. The Lightning? I’m not sure how exactly they could fit Pavelski in with their cap situation even with J.T. Miller gone and Ryan Callahan’s contract more or less no longer a factor; they still have Brayden Point to sign among other players. But Pavelski is such an attractive add, I can see why Tampa would want to at least try.

I also think Buffalo is among the teams that called the Pavelski camp but the Sabres don’t have a site visit scheduled with Pavelski.

I would imagine in that case, Colorado will not be getting Chris Kreider.
Beyond the 1st rounder, the Avs just don’t have enough for me to get Kreider. I’d rather target someone like Boston with better and farther along prospects, who probably won’t be averse to moving their 2020 1st.

The Rangers ask thus far has been centered around either a first round pick and a prospect they like, or a prospect they really like and a lower pick.

Which apparently no one would give them at the draft. Which means most likely he’s going to get resigned or he’s going to be a trade deadline rental where he will bring that back.

I think you had some things that got close, but unless the pick was for the 2019 draft, I don't think there was a sense of urgency otherwise.

So you very well could have offers the Rangers would consider, and are close, but not necessarily enough for something to be finalized.

I heard this all last summer about Hayes and Zucc

I don't remember that, so I don't know if I believe it.

That being said, the Rangers are in a vastly different position when it comes to possible young players coming in to fill roles than they were at this time last year. I don't think there was a serious effort made to trade Hayes or Zuccarello in the summer.

I know everyone loves shiny new/younger assets.... but if Kreider signs at 6/$40-42M.. You lock him up. The $2M raise is offset by the difference in the Girardi buyout. Once these kids develop, Kreider would move to a 'secondary/support' role. Kreider could potentially carry this team through the playoffs.. That's a nice wild card to have at 8% cap hit

BUT... If they're seriously going after Panarin, he'd obviously have to be moved.

IMO, the only players the Rangers should be considering giving long-term deals to right now are elite ones or high-end younger players (which includes Trouba). There are things Kreider is elite at, but he doesn't qualify and he'll be 29 at the start of the new contract. People talk about Panarin not fitting the timing... Kreider REALLY doesn't.

There wasn't. But that doesn't stop the fantasy of multiple 1st round picks SQUANDERED by keeping them for an extra 7 months.

Zucc will end up staying with Dallas. Resigning process is rarely smooth. Give it time.

Alternate universe, would have been very interesting had Kotkaniemi fell to NYR last June - and now paired with Kappo. (By all accounts, that was our target had Montréal not taken him at 3).

And with the ‘18 draft on the brain, let’s remember Kravtsov sat pretty at 24 in the THN draft preview, with scores of folks cursing Wahlstrom to NYI. The rankings don’t mean a thing...

Gut feeling Joey Keane from last year, and both Robertson and Zach Jones turn into NHL players.

Would love to see our prospect rankings at #1. Stick the flag right on top of the mountain.

Those are arbitrary 'age restrictions' from the HF board. The age timeline would theoretically be the same. Kreider 29-34. Panarin would be 28-34.

I dont worry about age as much until 35 +. I could also see Kreider take a Guerin type of trajectory in his career. His best/most productive hockey may still be in front of him

Huh? Where is that from?

The difference being that Panarin fits into one of the two categories I mentioned and Kreider does not. It's not just about his age, it's about the quality of player he is.

It was mentioned briefly before the draft, but I think Boston will continue to lurk around any activity involving Kreider.
