I know everyone loves shiny new/younger assets.... but if Kreider signs at 6/$40-42M.. You lock him up. The $2M raise is offset by the difference in the Girardi buyout. Once these kids develop, Kreider would move to a 'secondary/support' role. Kreider could potentially carry this team through the playoffs.. That's a nice wild card to have at 8% cap hit

BUT... If they're seriously going after Panarin, he'd obviously have to be moved.

Personally, I think Larry's projection on a Kreider contract being below $ 7 million is generous, and to a lesser extent probably the years as well.

Zucc will end up staying with Dallas. Resigning process is rarely smooth. Give it time.

Alternate universe, would have been very interesting had Kotkaniemi fell to NYR last June - and now paired with Kappo. (By all accounts, that was our target had Montréal not taken him at 3).

And with the ‘18 draft on the brain, let’s remember Kravtsov sat pretty at 24 in the THN draft preview, with scores of folks cursing Wahlstrom to NYI. The rankings don’t mean a thing...

Gut feeling Joey Keane from last year, and both Robertson and Zach Jones turn into NHL players.

Would love to see our prospect rankings at #1. Stick the flag right on top of the mountain.
Rangers would’ve taken Kravtsov regardless. They had him as the 2nd best forward in the draft

Looks like a snooty French waiter

31 Thoughts podcast. Elliotte Friedman said one guy told him he thinks Zuccarello will end up in Colorado if he doesn’t stay in Dallas and Panarin doesn’t sign with the Avalanche. They have plenty of room to pay anyone.

Another guy told him the Islanders haven’t signed Lee and Lehner because they want to sign both Panarin and Bob.

IMO, the only players the Rangers should be considering giving long-term deals to right now are elite ones or high-end younger players (which includes Trouba). There are things Kreider is elite at, but he doesn't qualify and he'll be 29 at the start of the new contract. People talk about Panarin not fitting the timing... Kreider REALLY doesn't.

Agreed and not at around 6.5 for 6/7 years... talk about Lucic comparisons, lol.

Lucic on his best day couldn’t skate forwards faster than Kreider backwards. I mean one guy is a big overweight slow lumbering player. One could probably step away right now and win a super bowl playing tight end for the patriots. But let’s compare the two because umm well. Umm I don’t know why they’re being compared actually

We invited Tony Amonte's son to Development Camp. Played at BU under Coach Quinn.

If anyone is interested in the text data. Some names and leagues are little mispelled.

Those are arbitrary 'age restrictions' from the HF board. The age timeline would theoretically be the same. Kreider 29-34. Panarin would be 28-34.

I dont worry about age as much until 35 +. I could also see Kreider take a Guerin type of trajectory in his career. His best/most productive hockey may still be in front of him

Sweet jesus, how many times have we heard this about Kreider since he came into the league.

If they keep Kreider non extended, they can offer an extension and he can sign it if he wants to at any time, correct?

I'm not so sure I get the idea that he has to be extended or traded right now?

If he signs a 1 year deal, he can only officially sign an extension after January 1.

But he wouldn’t sign a one year deal. He’s got a year left on his current deal. So wouldn’t extend a year. He can sign a real extension at any time I believe

Fun with jersey numbers:

During the 2005 lockout, I wanted to get a Rangers jersey and NHL.com was having a 50% off sale. They didn't have a lot of obvious picks at the time, I really liked Fedor Tyutin. They had just settled how his name would be spelled (the Rangers had used Tutin and Tjutin before on their website) and he had a good 20 or so games late in the season wearing #51. Then the next training camp he wore #55 just to screw with me, before taking #51 back when the season started. It turned out to not be a jersey that withstood the test of time anyways.
