That would still leave that quartet of Fowler, Lindholm, Vat, Manson to protect. Did they only have 4F to protect? Getzlaf, Kesler, Perry, Eaves, Rackell, Silf, etc. up front. So, would lose someone good. All they had to do was buyout Bieksa (who was just about washed) but Murray completely bungled the situation.
Yeah sorry the consensus at the time was that we should also do something similar to the Vats trade that ended up happening anyway. So then protect the other three D, all those forwards plus new one from Vats trade. Seemed more obvious than dumping Theo but I don't think BM valued him properly due to lack of gritThat would still leave that quartet of Fowler, Lindholm, Vat, Manson to protect. Well, also, given their ages in 2017, the 2003 draft class was 32. So, they were down to their final 2-3 productive years. If the Ducks were going to contend they needed to do that in 2018-2020. Guess the figured, having the vets would be better than the kids on the backend, though like you said, Vats was dealt so they ended up down 3 Dmen in Stoner, Theo and Vats. Bieksa, Fowler, Manson, Lindholm, Montour and Pettersson til they dealt him too.Yeah sorry the consensus at the time was that we should also do something similar to the Vats trade that ended up happening anyway. Now they have Mintyukov, Solberg, LaCombe, Luneau, and Zellweger.
Check back in other 5 to 10 years to see who is who from that group.
Losing Theodore for nothing was one of the low points of the franchise tbhBetween their Stanley Cup win 07 and after the retirement of Niedermeyer their D corps was weak and killed their chance for another cup (during the prime of Getzlaf and Perry) until around 2015, when these youngsters begun to florish.
Read also that Niedermeyer was involved in the development of these talents.
Btw loosing Theodore for nothing was a massive step back for Ducks.
Congratulations on LA being mediocre.5 less wins then you guys while being much younger and much more promising young talent. Wouldn’t get too excited there big fella you guys will be stuck in your mediocrity for a long time IF you are lucky enough to even be mediocre.
The rebuild is coming to an end, they are finally turning the corner. This will be Anaheim's 7th straight season without the playoffs and no end in sight.
I think since 2008 no other team comes close to drafting and developing defensemen.Everyone always talks about the Preds as being an elite defenseman drafting team but Anaheim low-key just as good.
Must be a SoCal thing. The Kings have moved on from some pretty good D men also (Faber, Durzi, Roy, Cernak, e.g., and lost McNabb to Vegas in the expansion draft, I believe). And there have been some rumors that Clarke could get moved, although I tend to doubt it.
WeberEveryone always talks about the Preds as being an elite defenseman drafting team but Anaheim low-key just as good.
2017 team was my pick to win Stanley Cup. It was ridiculous how lucky Predators got in game 6 and how bad Ducks goalie played. Those 2010s Ducks d-cores were monstrous especially the 2017 team. Lindholm, Manson, Fowler, Montour, Theodore & Vatanen on one team is insanity.
Also Seth Jones, Ryan Ellis and Girard as a B squadWeber
Suter
Josi
Hamhuis
Ekholm
I think I might take every one of those guys over the names in the OP.
i thought it was revealed that Bieksa would have waived if Murray had bothered to ask him?All they had to do was buyout Bieksa (who was just about washed) but Murray completely bungled the situation.
I'm not sure how much credit you can give. He wasn't a coach or anything. The only guy I think you can give credit to is probably Fowler since he lived with him for a year.Kings scenario was a little different because they were basically ALL RHD and the age stratification was a bit greater, Ducks have been better at getting young clusters of Dmen to make decisions on.
Doughty, Roy, Durzi, Faber, Spence, Clarke, Walker, Grans was their depth chart at RHD to start a year and no one of note at all outside of Anderson (and the buried Bjornfot) at LHD lol. But it was quite a stable of RHD they stocked before they decided they should just not.
hearing that Neidermeyer has been working with the Ducks Dmen reveals a lot though. Kings have Matt Greene and Sean O'Donnell so no wonder they're allergic to offensive D and prefer guys who get buried in their own end
Everyone always talks about the Preds as being an elite defenseman drafting team but Anaheim low-key just as good.
Tbh I think it kind of highlights the difficulty and importance of finding a legit #1, as well as how meaningless good drafting can be if the organization doesn't realize what they have (Theodore).I think since 2008 no other team comes close to drafting and developing defensemen.
From 2008-2020 they drafted these players:
Fowler
Lindholm
Schultz
Gardiner
Manson
Montour
Theodore
Pettersson
Vatanen
LaCombe
Drysdale
11 top 4 defensemen in 13 years. And that's not counting other NHL defensemen like Mahura, Megna, Larsson, and Thrun (likely will be a top 4 guy).
And since 2020 they have Zellweger, Mintyukov, and Luneau.
Well again… we are 5 wins behind you, much younger, with much better youngsters. The end is near and we are going to be better then you for a long long time.Congratulations on LA being mediocre.
This will be Anaheim's 7th straight season without the playoffs and no end in sight.
100% on the first point. Unless you are picking high in the draft, you have to get really lucky.Tbh I think it kind of highlights the difficulty and importance of finding a legit #1, as well as how meaningless good drafting can be if the organization doesn't realize what they have (Theodore).
I'm pretty sure I heard that too. Kevin didn't mind being exposed because the chances of LV actually claiming him was fairly low given all the other available options throughout the league.i thought it was revealed that Bieksa would have waived if Murray had bothered to ask him?
