No one has ufa money for a 1d at the moment unless you’re Arizona or Chicago next season.
Edmonton imo should be leading the charge for Chychrun, its the only way they can salvage that d, a cost controlled player getting paid less than he's worth.

that contract should be looked through more thoroughly by the league no? league probably will most likely disregard as it will expire after this season.

i'm wondering what cap shenanigans they'll come up with to sign pastrnak.
Why? Bergeron is making 5 mil this year and there's nothing about the contract that is against the rules.

They should but chychrun isn’t a 1d. He’s a great 2 who makes Peanuts.

Ortmeyer and Glass when Othmann arrives next training camp.

Forgot your pic, I’ve added one

i saw 2 million of the salary cap friendly site. even 5 million is a good deal for the level of work that bergeron provides, especially at this age.

besides pitt maybe the ranger organization should find out who handles the bruins salary cap duties and make an offer and double the salary.

Oh my, people comparing Othmann to Tkachuk, I'm preparing myself for the pages of disappointment in 4 years right now
Nobody has said he's going to be anywhere near as good as Tkachuk. Just that there are similarities in their games. Size, physicality, grit, and a willingness to be a bit of a rat. Othmann has a better one-timer than Tkachuk, but that's basically it. Tkachuk is a far better skater, has better hands (Othmann has great net hands, but not much dangle), and is a better playmaker.

He has a 2.5 mil salary and 2.5 mil in performance bonuses, which he already earned by playing 10 games.

I'm sure the Rangers could sign a similar contract if they had a similar player to Patrice Bergeron, who is still elite at age 37, but bear in mind that the 2.5 mil in performance bonuses is going to roll over into next year's cap. Not only do we not have the cap space to do something like that, but we don't have any players who would qualify for performance bonuses except for Halak (who has 50k in performance bonuses which he likely won't earn).

Boston is having a great year, so it's easy to point at them and say they are doing it right, but what are they going to do this summer? Their cap next year will be reduced by 4.5 mil because they'll have to pay off the bonuses to Bergeron and Krejci. Pasta needs a new contract and he could be looking at a number starting with 12. They are going to lose quite a bit of depth in trying to keep that core together, and how many years do Bergeron and Krejci have left?

Boston better win the cup this year, because this will be their best chance for a while.

Yup but there's no way they are affording a #1.

Boston is going for one last ride this year, after this they begin their road to the current blackhawks team

i totally agree. debrusk and hall will be the ones in leading the charge once march & bergy aren't around. pasta - well that's a damn if they do or don't kind of situation. 9-10 mil fine with no hesitation. 12 mil will cause you think real real hard.

i noticed boston hasn't really drafted anyone noteworthy in a real long time. frederic is all right. any hopes for anyone down in the farm?

It's a hard thing to govern. Think about it. Say a player REALLY wants to play somewhere. They are worth a good 7 mil a year. The team they want to play for tells them we just can't afford to pay you more than 3mil. Or 2mil. Whether because of cap restraints or financial limits. Should the league tell this player he cant sign for that lower number in order to play where he wants? How does that work with the NHLPA? Are they going to advocate taking away a player's choice to prioritize something other than money?
Yeah, on the surface its unfair that these players are giving THAT sort of discount, but if the team culture or other conditions makes it THAT of a desirable place to play, why should that be penalized. NYR have that to some extent. Players have been known to take less money to come here.

I don't see much there. Beecher and Lysell are former 1st rounders, but I doubt either makes a significant impact any time soon. Beecher isn't doing much in the AHL at age 21. Lysell is doing very well in the AHL at age 19, but it's a big step from there to being an impact player in the NHL, and he's a bit undersized. Other than those 2, there aren't many that I've heard of, though maybe they have some hidden gems in there.

Dangerous dirty play.

These plays are worse than the big blow ups.

There was no reason to stick your elbow out there at the end. Domi was right to go after him.

Now would Domi have been able to actually do anything? No lol

Domi is no push over when he decides to drop the gloves. He may not be his dad, but he isn't Marc Staal either.

Does Chychrun have more value than Provorov? He's over $2M cheaper, same term as well(2 more seasons after this one). Chych is also younger.

I think he does have more value but the fact that there is another top-pairing d-man on the market who is also signed for a decent term may lower the asking price. Supply increases
I agree, also Chych has an NMC that kicks in after this season. Supply increases and theyre on the clock.
