The recent Gallant quotes about Goodrow perfectly illustrates the issues with Gallant.

Something along the lines of he will promote Goodrow up the lineup at the expense of anyone (Krav, Laf, Kakko, Chytil). And how he (Goodrow) made a mistake "big deal" yet any time Krav, Laf, Kakko, or Chytil make a mistake they're benched or scratched...

This guy lives his coaching life by double standards. There's no accountability for the vets and no leeway whatsoever for the young forwards to grow.
First of all, watch the media availabilities rather than read quotes.

Second, no S a reliable, dependable pro has more leeway than a kid who is just going for a skate most nights.

Third, having said that, when has a kid been benched this year because of an isolated play?

Well, he’s a solid bottom pairing D. He is playing way over his as the top paring RD with Fowler as his most common partner. Who is also playing over his head. He makes the big hits here and there and is fairly responsible in his own end. A lot of Ducks fans want to ship out Klingberg and Shatty but Kulikov doesn’t get the same treatment.

If he was on a team that was better coached, and had the depth , think he would do very well. He is probably one of the few bright spots with Anaheim’s D which you know is a nightmare…..although they did shut out Dallas last week, which was a shocker. lol
So are you saying he is better at RHD than LHD

I missed the performance bonuses; but they are still definitely discounts. Open markets both players get more money and more years.

I also never argued the point, but was just articulating what I figured Machinehead meant.

I do agree to an extent that the NHLPA likely is not happy about it. Precedent and reference points for contracts are more important to negotiations than available slices of the pie in a single season.
Look at Giordano’s contract with Toronto. Incredible underpayment.

No, I don't watch.

I just rub the charts like a scratch and sniff until they turn lime green and then I have my answer.
I’m glad you finally admitted it

I mean look at the Bergeron contract in Boston. That’s the biggest joke of them all
that contract should be looked through more thoroughly by the league no? league probably will most likely disregard as it will expire after this season.

i'm wondering what cap shenanigans they'll come up with to sign pastrnak.

Any contract signed or trade made in the last 5-6 years has to be viewed as before or after March of 2020. There are decisions that would have definite gone down differently if GMs knew cap would suddenly go flat.

For example, happening prior to March of 2020; Panarin contract, Kreider contract, Trouba contract.

Post March 2020; Buchnevich trade, bridge deals

Make sure you are viewing things in the proper context. Some decisions that look dumb today didn’t look that dumb at the time

I hate throwing players under the bus but Trouba has warranted a lot more heat than Kreider. I also don’t think Kreider should have any heat now. He is not matching his 50 goal pace from last season but that was well overachieving. It was just extra gravy.

If he hits 30-35 goals this season, while doing the little things like killing penalties , that’s very good for a 6-6.5 million dollar contract.
The Kreider hate is baffling to me. He's done nothing but outperform his contract and he remains one of the best and most important players on the team both on and off the ice.

He's also a best case scenario of what you can expect out of a mid 1st round pick, shot of becoming an unexpected superstar. He's a bonafide first liner, he's been on this team through multiple cores, he's delivered time and time again in the playoffs and he's moving up the franchise all time rankings - he's 2 away from tying Messier for 7th all time in goals and by the end of this season he could be 5th (he's 14 goals away from Hadfield, in 146 less games no less). He's still in his prime and playing the best hockey of his career, definitely outperforming his cap hit.

Basically the only thing he's guilty of is playing the same position as the 1OA pick we drafted after Kreider had already signed his contract.

It’s a shame they don’t try Kreider on RW. With his smarts, I think it would be worth a try. Kreider is one of the last players I would trade unless a team overpaid

How far up in the draft could the Rangers move with two low-to-mid 20s 1st rounders?
You aren't moving into the top 8, and it isn't worth it to burn both for that, especially when we need more of an influx of high drafted prospects. It's kinda a pipe dream that is brought up every year. Top 10 picks are hardly ever moved, for good reason, and if they are it is typically for a very good established player.

Last year giving the Conditional 1st in the Copp deal made a lot more sense for 2 reasons - the quality of the draft class being lesser, and that Igor was on the way to having a historical year and a goalie can carry you through the playoffs (while Kreider also going goal nuts as well).

This year, Igor is still doing very well, but not that same insane level. The 2023 draft is much better with depth in the 1st round.

Smaller moves makes a lot of sense this year. No team is coming to us and giving us some franchise altering player at a discount just to get those 1st rounder(s).

Barbashev, Barabanov, Dadanov, Ritchie - all make sense
Kulikov, Braun reunion, Schenn - all make sense

A Dman like Maata or Gost doesn't make as much sense because Gallant will want a defensively responsible D first and foremost.

2023 and 2024 2nd - 7ths all on the board
Zac Jones
Hajek
Skinner
Korczak
Pajuniemi

All those prospects I could see dangled in deals for mid tier players, Jones to fetch somewhat better players.

I would bet money that none of following are on the table: 2023 1sts, Othmann, Garand, Berard, Cuylle, Sykora, McConnell-Barker, Robertson

After thorough research and consideration, I have added one to the list.

TyJo
Labanc
Bonino
Kulikov

4 for 4 or we riot.

I’d take Tyler Johnson for the third line. I figure he’ll be a popular one though. Might cost too much.

Kulikov or Holden
Puljujaarvi

I truly think Edmonton may dump Puljujaarvi for next to nothing to get cap space and I really think his next stop will provide a good opportunity for him to develop properly. He’s a big body who is defensively responsible. He’d fit what the Rangers could use in the bottom-6.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Kaako
Panarin-Trochek-Kravtsov
Lafreniere-Chytil-Puljujaarvi
Vesey-Goodrow-Gauthier
Blais, Brodzinski

Lindgren-Fox
Miller-Trouba
Holden/Kulikov-Schneider
Pool party is a reclamation project. His confidence is at an all-time low. Maybe next season when his team doesn’t qualify him.

That Edmonton team is a mess.

I saw the first 2 periods of their game last night against LA. Edmonton has big issues. People say they need a defenseman. They need more than one defenseman.

How in the world are we affording 5 million for this season and next? Even if chi retains 1/2, that’ll make the cap crunch way too tight. Only way it works is if they take back goodrow which I doubt he waives to and I doubt drury and/or gg would want

Othmann has said himself he models his game after Matthew Tkachuk. Tkachuk is a far better player than Othmann is ever likely to be, but if the kid can even become a Dubinsky-type for us, that would be absolutely huge. That's the exact kind of player that is missing from our middle-6.

Also, the kid has an absolutely nasty one-timer, and great net hands. Our PP2 might actually become a threat, and you could build a nice unit around our young lefties (Laf/Kakko/Chytil) that don't get PP1 time.

I think Othmann has a better shot than tkachuk.
Tkachuk has more size and speed but othmann has really flashed the past year in terms of high end talent. Pretty sure on a re-draft (already) he doesn't come anywhere near us.

I almost wonder what the cost would be to acquire McDonagh after double retention to stabilize the third pairing and provide some playoff depth.

Almost...

Not sure I agree with the bolded. I think Othmann has performed about as well as we hoped for a kid drafted in the middle of the 1st round. Plenty of players drafted in his range (10-25) have had similar years, so I don't know if he moves up very much in a redraft (although I think it's way too early for that).

People made fun of Nash for the butt move but you know what? Nash had a hell of a career. It was a career I'd sign up for Kakko having.

They're the same player. Neither have speed and neither of them are great shooters or passers. They're both tanks with all-time hands. Nash utilized that by forcing plays that nobody else could make.

With our Laissez Faire approach to offense, I doubt Kakko has been shown how to utilize it. It's probably been the opposite. Don't force anything because that's not "the right way."
Nash had speed when he joined the league, it dropped off a bit by the time he got here. Kakko and Nash unfortunately arent the same player, Nash was a bonefide goal scorer from day one, his shooting and offensive awareness were much better.

Develop properly, and hes gonna come here? Dount he wants to go from bad to worse

Oh my, people comparing Othmann to Tkachuk, I'm preparing myself for the pages of disappointment in 4 years right now

They paid nurse to be a #1 and he's more of a 3d is the problem, now they dont have money for a #1.

No one has ufa money for a 1d at the moment unless you’re Arizona or Chicago next season.
