The Kreider hate is baffling to me. He's done nothing but outperform his contract and he remains one of the best and most important players on the team both on and off the ice.

He's also a best case scenario of what you can expect out of a mid 1st round pick, shot of becoming an unexpected superstar. He's a bonafide first liner, he's been on this team through multiple cores, he's delivered time and time again in the playoffs and he's moving up the franchise all time rankings - he's 2 away from tying Messier for 7th all time in goals and by the end of this season he could be 5th (he's 14 goals away from Hadfield, in 146 less games no less). He's still in his prime and playing the best hockey of his career, definitely outperforming his cap hit.

Basically the only thing he's guilty of is playing the same position as the 1OA pick we drafted after Kreider had already signed his contract.

I try not to overly defend players anymore, it just leads to trouble, but when folks were suggesting having Laf on Top LW over Kreider, I basically agreed to disagree, lol.

Seems like a perfect fit for them. They have McDavid and Draisatl. Getting Chychrun on the backend would be a great move for them.
Yup. Hosts were saying that Leon has 2 years left. McJesus has 3.

They are prob sick of losing and porous D.

They were speculating that Oils left side is a big problem ( Nurse hast been good at all) and adding Chychrun is almost a must. Speculated that Edmonton would have to part with major pieces to get him, and should do it.

They have no room to wait. Time is now.

The recent Gallant quotes about Goodrow perfectly illustrates the issues with Gallant.

Something along the lines of he will promote Goodrow up the lineup at the expense of anyone (Krav, Laf, Kakko, Chytil). And how he (Goodrow) made a mistake "big deal" yet any time Krav, Laf, Kakko, or Chytil make a mistake they're benched or scratched...

This guy lives his coaching life by double standards. There's no accountability for the vets and no leeway whatsoever for the young forwards to grow.
Not for nothing its not just an issue for the young players either. I think it plays a part in Panarins lackluster play as well. There's no accountability there. Panarin is Panarin but when your mindlessly throwing the puck away game after game and the results aren't where they should be, at what point does the coach step in? The best players in the game generally lead the giveaway category, they take risks to make plays and thats fine. If hes playing the level he should be at no big deal but we know Panarin has another level than this. Since he joined the Rangers he's the highest scoring winger in the league with 294 points in 227 games. Kucherov is the only winger with a higher PPG pace in that time span. He's the 2nd highest paid player in the league because he can play to that level. That hasn't been the case this year and much of last season. There just seems to be a certain level of aggression and selfishness missing from Panarin and even Mikas game compared to that 19-20 season. Teams know what Panarin is trying to do. Not enough variance in his attack anymore. Far too predictable, it's an issue that Gallant has not bothered to address simply because he's Artemi Panarin.

DQ was a clown but he did always preach a dumbed down North/South game and in all honesty when guys like Panarin and Mika add aspects like that they appear to be far more effective players. I don't mean dump and chase or anything like that necessarily but just being more direct, challenging defenders, simple things that'll open up the cute East/West shit they're constantly overreliant on

As Vally stated, their 5 on 5 offense is fine. This isnt like last years team.

They need defense and a supplemental forward or two who can play on both sides of the rink and manage the puck correctly to help cut down on high danger chances against.

Low giveaways. High on shots. Good on the forecheck/backcheck, plays with pace. Hard on the body would be a bonus. Ideally a RH shot. Trocheck and Panarin are giveaway machines this year.

Someone that is better offensively than Goodrow but can be trusted by Gallant since he will likely be playing up in the lineup, in that 2nd line RW spot (Kravstov).

That isn't Kane. Let's be smart about this

So thought experiment...
At what cap hit (3 years left) is McDonagh an appetizing option for the third pair?

The more I think about what this team looks like if (heaven forbid) Lindgren is out for any amount of time...the more I think a LD is where we need to prioritize.

It's not happening.

Nashville is one point out of playoff spot and just acquired McD over the summer.
His cap hit won't work even with 50% retained
He's essentially tied for 2nd on the Preds in ATOI per game. That team needs him.
NTC

I always liked him and his game and he's a large part of the reason TB won another Cup but he's not a fit here.

Tyler Bertuzzi or Garland? I dont see Vancouver retaining long term so that's really unlikely.

Vatrano at 50% makes a lot of sense.

We're not trading Krav for Kane. That would be lunacy. We're trading him for Labanc (50%) and Bonino.
