Again, AV's extension is meaningless. All it does is keep him from being a lame duck coach this season. If Gorton decided he wanted to fire AV today that extension wouldn't slow him down 1 second. The rangers aren't a busget team.

He shouldn't have been extended at all and should have already gotten the boot.

I agree that if things don't go the way JG wants them to that hes probably done in a year, but thats a year too long. Keeping him around will only result in this team spinning its wheels at best, no matter what roster changes are made.

Exactly. We're talking about the most valuable franchise in hockey and one of the most valuable in sports. AVs contract is arbitrary. I have no doubt if management wanted to make a coaching change they would fire AV with millions left to pay him. The term and money is insignificant. Dolan and co. will cut their losses.

He embarrassed himself in the Ottawa series and should have been shown the door.

It's much tougher to fire a veteran coach in this league without some sort of obvious blunder like missing the playoffs or consecutive playoff 1st round exits. AV is on the hot seat this season. As long as Gorton doesn't hesitate if things go south before February, I'm fine with his decision to keep Vigneault this summer.

I hate to be an ******* about it, but can people post tweets correctly?

I've seen a lot recently that are not posted in correct form, and when you aren't reading every post, instead just skimming over each thread for news, its kind of hard to see them.

I appreciate every tweet thats posted, but I think there should be like a reminder somewhere of how to post them correctly.

I'll post it myself, if anyone needs it. Click "go advanced", click the little tweet icon, and then post the number code at the end of a tweet you see within the brackets that pop up once you press the tweet icon.

I don't think AV is in the hot seat at all....

it began in game 2 vs Habs with Holden on ice at the end

unless management thinks, "Marc has struggled here but he's a good solid veteran that knows how to play. Nick Holden is a solid pick up for us here and he's shown that he can step up for us. They had a tough series but they're good players and they'll redeem themselves."

The fact that management didn't even ask for Staal's NMC to be waived tells me management is still okay with Staal-Holden.

So we trade arguably our best forward who is a big bodies winger for Jason Demers? Like what?

Saves money, and if Klein retires (all signs pointing to it), they sign Shattenkirk as an UFA.

I'm not in love with Demers, but on the second pair with Skjei? He's fine. The alternative is playing Holden there and Staal with a rookie. The latter is worse.

That, and Nash has a big body, but it also clears enough cap to go out and make a run after somebody like say, a Brian Boyle, who wins faceoffs (arguably our second biggest weakness after RHD depth), and undoubtedly improves the bottom six.

I ran the #s. Assuming Klein does retire:

Kreider-Zibanejad-Zucc
Vesey-Stepan-Buchnevich
Miller-Hayes-Grabner
Boyle-Nieves-Fast
Puempel

McDonagh-Shattenkirk
Skjei-Demers
Staal-Holden
Kampfer

Hank
Raanta/Backup

Assuming the Rangers are shopping Raanta, and they can get back a second-round pick + another minor asset for him. Rangers would then have their 21st to select from, and a second in this Draft. For everybody that complains the Rangers don't have picks? THEY FINALLY HAVE SOME! Graves/Berezgalov/Pionk would all have the opportunity to impress in camp, and I'm sure can help out in a pinch if needed. If you give market value to Zibanejad/Fast, that team is about $2.5-3 million under the salary cap. Having Staal-Holden around still stinks, but now they're undoubtedly the third best pairing on the team, and with less minutes, may be more effective.

Maybe that teams takes a small step back in GF overall. NYR have been a top 5-ish team over the last two seasons in GF overall. The offensive depth, and youth, is still there. Losing Nash stinks, but again, the alternative is infinitely worse. Having that forward depth with no top four RHD is bad. I'd take my chances. It's not like Demers is paid egregiously either. He doesn't make Brooks Orpik money, he makes Jason Garrison money. I can live with a guy like Demers overpaid by about $500k per year until his early 30s when he's closer to a guy like Marco Scandella than have Holden play as many minutes as he did last season with some skills, but admittedly, a much lower hockey IQ. Girardi was a rock. Demers has had good CF #s almost his entire career. I'll give him a pass for playing a down season on a down team.

We're doomed if true. Holden can at least provide offense periodically. Staal basically brings nothing to the table at this point.

Because he's coming off a 100+ point season. Because the team overachieved. Because he's built up enough past success capital. Because the FO doesn't hold lock and key to the opinions some people on this board have about the coach.

This team is expected to be in the playoffs year after year. There's no chance that his success in the playoffs is enough to guarantee his job. Torts was great in the regular season as well with the level of intensity he brought to each game but that didn't prevent him from being fired. We didn't overachieve. AV is under the microscope by the NY media and the fans. His performance in the playoffs was pathetic. We blew a series that we should have won against Ottawa. Players themselves said they knew the path to the SCF this year was the easiest and they blew it. AV's coaching was the most problematic of the playoffs.

really there isn't a better coaching option right now. just deal with what you got until your absolutely forced to do otherwise. he gets us into the post season gives us a good amount of wins. what coach is going to put us over the top right now..

Sutter is definitely better. Not sure he's a great fit with this team but he's definitely the better coach of the two.

Would we? We didn't change it to suit AVs game, we just implemented it despite it exacerbating our defensive issues...

im not sure we have the guys to play a heavy style game he's use to if he decided to not go that route then we possible have the team he could use. i just can't picture him coaching this roster and winning it all

I agree, but you'd like to assume the team wouldn't hire him if he had no intention of changing from his LA game plan, nor would he want to sign here if that was the only way he wanted to coach and he was aware of our current roster.

I can't picture any coach taking the current squad all the way, so the coach isn't a big priority for me
