IMO it will be closer to $12-$12.5, which percentage of capwise is similar to guys like Ao, Crosby and Kane. He also can't do the $3m per year 'dead' years that Crosby could take advantage of

If anyone is worth it than McDavid would be the guy but if I'm McDavid I would not want it. That could limit Edm pretty much going forward. He can't play 6 positions 60 minutes a game.

Considering what he'd get on a 'discount' deal (Maybe 10 million) that's really only the difference of one middle-6 player a year.

Hardly enough to tank a franchise or its prospects.

Incidentally, I wonder if Sid, with his injury history, even plans to play past his 33rd birthday in those discount years.

It could definitely be overcome but that doesn't mean it will be easy for a team that succeeds. Other players will want their own piece of the pie. What if Leo is within 10 points of him in a season?
