The truly scary thing is theyll mainly be buying RFA years.. Imagine what he could get as a full UFA

There's no way I'm giving him anything close to that unless I'm buying out like 5 UFA years or more

on the flip side there's always a risk to that type of contract... don't understand why they're in such a rush to pay him.

Lock him down before he figures out how bad of a GM they have. Plus every team in the NHL would clear house for him. Lock him down before he realizes hockey is hockey in any city. so he doesnt run to LA or Tampa for a better lifestyle

McDavid is getting 12-14 mill next year? How? Doesn't he have one more year left on his entry?

Yes he does, they're speculating on the contract negations that will start with him for 18/19.

I wonder whether he signs a shorter length contract to see what changes in the CBA after the next lockout

There is not much leverage against the most valuable hockey player in the entire world. McDavid boosts their team offense so much more than his 100 points indicate. You let camp McDavid know that the team cannot afford to give above $12,000,000 or $11,500,000 and work on years and other small details to the best of your ability. Not a good thing to play hard ball against your franchise player either.

$12-14 million for McDavid. That's huge, but you look at the points and the hardware already and the franchise turnaround and you have to pay him. What is Draisaitl going to get re-signed for? And can they ice a Cup-winning team paying one player that much? For reference, Crosby and Malkin on Pittsburgh have a combined cap hit of $18.2-million. Toews and Kane are at $21-million and look at the work Bowman has to do every year to keep them competitive.

They should give a penalty for correct offsides challenges. Worst rule ever

I would've said it makes sense to trade Eberle for such a low return, but his contract runs out a the same time as McDavid's.

Not really sure what Chiarelli is up to. He always seems to lose trades, except the one where he stole Talbot from us for nothing of note. :shakehead:shakehead

for the record, the Talbot draft picks turned in Zborovskiy, Huska, and a 2nd which got flipped for Kovacs and Morrison.

Talbot's UFA negotiation rights for Zborovskiy, Huska, Kovacs, & Morrison.

according to our last prospect poll , those are our 6, 8, 11, and 25th best prospects.

Imagine the game winning overtime goal of Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals is scored during a power play that was awarded due to a failed challenge.

I mean realistically a challenge only happens when a close off-side call leads to a goal. So that scenario wouldn't happen, given that a failed challenge essentially equals a good goal. Point taken though. It would be stupid, but no more so than Brett Hull standing in the crease on his winner.

Good point But you see where I'm going with this.

This rule would be fantastic

would eliminate what is the biggest problem with the NHL right now, no hyperbole and that is the hail mary challenge for offside

no more of these ticky tack 1 inch hopeful challenges. too risky. love it!

Only applied to offsides challenges, love it.

Goalie interference is so subjective. I could see it really backfiring against the NYR at some point.

Hopefully we deal Step at the draft tomorrow.

I could understand everyone waiting til the dust settled from yesterday.
However, anybody getting greedy here is cutting the nose to spite the face.

Package deal:
pt 1
Stepan + chump change [Tambellini, Kovacs]
for
Chychrun + c.c. [Crowse sp?, Hickey]

pt 2
21OA/Raanta/Holden/Klein/_____________
for
7OA + 35
OR
AZ 2018 1st + in lieu of 7OA

something like dat

Bobfather said tomorrow is likely the day. Though Eberle was a big piece that moved today. Might have shifted conversations GMs have been having and their importance.

Where did Bob say tomorrow is the day to watch?
