I am all for signing Boyle and Shatty while re-signing Smith. Trade Holden.

I was on, but am now off, the Shattenkirk bus. He's going to cost too much. Keep Holden, sign someone like Hunwick for insurance, and hope that one of Berezglazov / Graves / Pionk can play.

I'd take Boyle at 1.5 x 2 years. That leaves him a UFA at 34, 3 years would make his next contract a 35+ contract which could scare suitors.

The below could come in under the cap. I just picked Hunwick's name because he's a UFA who would be serviceable - we could keep Kampfer for all I care.

Kreider-Zib-Buch
Nash-Step-Zucc
Miller-Hayes-Vesey
Fast-Boyle-Grabner
Puempel

McDonagh-Skjei
Holden -Smith
Staal-Bereglazov/Graves/Pionk
Hunwick

Right. I'd be ok moving down 5 or 6 spots for a 2nd. 21 to 33 is too much.

I just feel like this draft is going to shape up like 1999, without the Sedins. IE, mostly crap. So quantity is better. But who knows.

That D is not good. If that's the defense we run out there...

$61M now and then you add:

Zib @ $4.9M
Smith @ $4.2M
Shattenkirk @ $6.5M
Fast @ $1.8M
Boyle @ $2.2M

That's almost $20M right there, and the team doesn't have a spare D or spare forward.
Klein wasn't in that lineup though

$61 includes $2.9 for klein. any more info on whether he might actually be retiring?

Itd be around 77.5M. With Puempel and Kampfer as extras

Which is obviously over the cap. So yeah that wouldn't work.

This draft is fine, it has really good depth... It's nothing like 99... Yak and RNH years are much better comparables.

If you remove Klein's $2.9 and trade Holden's $1.650 you gain about $4.3 in cap space.

Plus he went on the high side for Smith and Zib imo. And its possible Shatty would sign for $6.25ish but likely $6.5 as he had it.

It is doable.

Well we're all waiting to see if Gorton can work some magic. I wasn't speculating on trades, only UFA's. Agreed, that defense is at best similar to what we put out there last year.

So far Gorton has shown me he isn't much of a risk taker. I don't think any of the big players are going to be moved. Zib for Brass was a easy slam dunk. A blind monkey could tell you it was time to buyout G.

I'm not expecting any big moves from the guy. He isn't Sather. I'd guess maybe one or two low key moves.

What's the deal with Pedrie and Pionk? I think people assume Bereglazov will be on the team. He has 3 full years of experience in the KHL. Could the Rangers assume one of Pionk, Pedrie and Graves along with Kampfer will be the #6?

The reason I ask, is, if Staal, Skjei and McDonagh are here already. The Rangers could theoretically sign either Smith OR Shattenkirk while trading Holden.

An easy slam dunk?

Gorton has done a phenomenal job. Not taking wild, stupid risks doesn't mean he isn't a risk taker.

Thanks goodness he using like Sather. Maybe we can start drafting in the first round again on a regular basis.

Never said he isn't doing a bad job

I didnt realize the Brassard for Zib and 2nd round pick was such an easy deal to make.
Look at their production. Zib is younger and is matching Brassards point total. Plus a 2nd? Yeah thats pretty easy. So easy a certain someone on HF was calling for that exact trade.
